Good video. The one you missed is the dashboard cracking. Very common problem with Chevy trucks from what I understand. Ended up replacing my dashboard entirely and put a custom-fit cover on it to save it from direct sunlight.
Nice! I have a 2010 Avalanche LTZ. Complete top end was replaced due to the AFM. I have a disabler in, and do oil changes every 3500. 164k on the clock, hoping for 100k more!
Original Owner of a 2007 Avalanche LS purchased in September of 2006: I would replace the door handle (#4) & plastic trim (#5) issues with the blower motor pigtail burning up and the dashboard cracking. I have 360K miles on my truck and had no issues with the exterior door handles or the plastic trim. The two issue I mentioned were repaired twice in warranty and one time outside the warranty period. The pigtail fix was done by an electrician and never happened again. The dash cracked a third time, I am just not going to pay to fix it.....again! I would add an honorable mention for the seat heater power/ground plug burning up. Ford Motor company uses the same plug connector in the F150 but runs 2 separate power and 2 separate ground wires and that seems to resolve the issue. I have had a collapsed lifter from the DOD/AFM twice. Once at 260K miles which resulted in the cam shaft breaking (replaced with a create motor from Chevrolet) Dealer said it would not happen again! Yet again, at about 360K miles #7 lifter collapsed (rebuilt top end with mechanical & programmed DOD/AFM delete). If you have not yet deleted the DOD/AFM function, do so immediately if you want your engine to last as long as it should.
I just bought a 2013 diamond edition avalanche with 99 k miles so far its a beast I like it no problem with it yet just need to put in a better remote auto starter in it but I like it also my first full size truck its a beast
I love my Avalanche it's the only truck in the world that you can go from the tail gate to the cabin of the truck . They are very reliable. and great for overlanding. Some people go camping with them and sleep inside the cabinet with their feet inside the bed. I wish they would come back out with them.

Just get a range afm delete device. Google Range AFM and u can find it. Work great. Also I found changing my PCV valve cover to the updated model, which u can also Google, will reduce oil consumption.
@@gtb2009b AFM is Automatic Fuel Management (shuts off cylinders when coasting on the freeway to save fuel)… It was a great idea by GM, but doesn’t really work since it results in stuck lifters, which is costly to repair. Better to code out the AFM.
My ‘13 Avalanche just turned the 100k mile mark last night. The oil pressure sensor just failed the other day. The car has been very reliable. Other than routine maintenance, I have had to replace 1 coil pack (#1 cylinder), 1 failed spark plug (#7 failed at 80k miles, so I replaced them all at that time), and of course now the oil sending unit. Of the vehicles I’ve owned, this is by far my all time favorite. I intend to keep this car until it turns into a pile of rust. We’ll see
Oil sending unit and the Oil screens went on mine a few months ago - I bet you are getting your engine flushed. Stop it. Also check your oil cooler lines, they will start to leak now. Get your oil changed every 5000. no flushings.
I agree with all the problems noted in the video (the only one of the 5 I haven't had on my '07 LTZ is the throttle body sensor failure). I am very surprised that the dash cracking issue wasn't noted, since virtually every '07-14 GM truck out there except those with leather bonded dashes has broken at some point, or will.
I used a Diablo tuner to disable AFM. It worked but i also have problems with alcohol levels reading incorrectly and causing surging or difficulty starting. Bought a HP tuner. Disabled AFM, eliminated the E85 and the virtual alcohol sensor. Worked great. Also changed tow mode to performance mode and Eco mode to normal. Completely different truck. JUST BUY THE HP TUNER!!!! It gives you almost infinite customization. Read trouble codes and take live data for the engine and the transmission. 👍👍
Good coverage. I did a AFM Delete. It cost me $1000.00 doing it myself I was stubborn and didn't want to replace the left valve cover because it has a improved pcv filter which you need because oil vapors increase because they're not shutting down lifters anymore. Pcu was reprogrammed I love my Avalanche again.
Mine sat for a long time before I bought it (I suspect, as I bought it from a dealer). Only at 72k miles, but I've restored it a good deal in the 2 years I've owned it. Definitely replaced a door handle. Also had rusting struts, a broken sway bar, bad gas cap, wheel bearings went bad, and a misfiring cylinder. Besides those issues, I put new rims & tires on it and repainted a quarter panel (previous repair by an owner was awful). I still love it. Still need to fix the radio - every time I hit a bump or for no reason at all, it switches inputs. If I ever sell it, it won't be cheap!
Anybody with a 2007-2013 avalanche should FIRST remove the tail lights, spray undercoating into the rear quarter panels, and maybe poke some holes through on the bottom for water to escape. Every avalanche rusts in that spot because of the double layered metal forming a sealed trough for sand and water that gets washed down through the gaps in your tail lights. I wish I did that before it was too late.
As an 07 LT3 4x4 owner, I think 1A auto did well here but I'll add a couple of additional issues; 1) Oil pressure sending unit & screen filter failure: (Your oil pressure gauge will not display correctly which will cause the check engine light to come on due to CEL code P0521). 2) [4L60E] Transmission failure : (The 4l60e transmissions commonly fail in the 2gen avalanches due to weak internals that will eventually need to be upgraded and replaced). 3) Leaking bed covers: (the bed [tonneau] covers leak due to a poor seal and require regular cleaning/maintenance).
I'd agree with this 1000%. I've owned 3 different Avy's for a total of 15yrs and the video & R4SX NineEight are right on the money for anyone considering this awesome truck
WOW you got that right on, how they missed that amazes me the oil pressure sending unit went garbage on me too as well as my display unit in which i had to replace the chip, luckily now i can put a dash cap cover now because of all the cracks the only bad thing now is that once the dash cap is installed i can no longer take out the instrument cluster because the cap is glued on
Yes I would move this up to number 1. Just an FYI when you pull the sender and screen, pull the oil filter off and spray a can of brake cleaner down the tube. The tube can get clogged up causing a small amount of oil through the passage and the oil pressure will be lower. This happened to me when I replaced the sender and screen. Put everything back together and within 10 minutes that damn oil pressure alarm was going off. After flushing the tube, I now maintain about 35PSI at idle.
I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche LT. I have dash cracking that is kind of annoying but it's no biggie. She's a real brute but I don't plan on doing much towing with it. 120k right now and couldn't be happier.
2013 Chevy Avalanche Black Diamond issues: midgate rear window glass platic edging cracked and broke, plastic door grips broke, dash first cracked then broke and caved in, 2 outer door handles broke, plastic front ac vents broke, wear and tear on the tonneau covers, Steering wheel ripped, flimsy hub caps, fuse issues, cheap plastic internals have broken. @@markfritz6367 Really? I have hated this option from day 1. Saves fuel my ass. All it does it make your truck engine shudder (so to speak) and cause oil consumption issues. Ive wanted to get programmer to just get rid of it entirely.
It would have been nice if you could have put an approximate repair cost with each problem or at least the retail cost of the replacement part. Other than that a very good video.
i love my 2008 avalanche ltz first truck ive actually bought myself being only in my twenties , but lately its been giving me problems with the rear air ride shocks , the bladders on the shocks arn't firm or full of air like they should be but both the shocks and the compressor that pumps them up where replaced just last year and i cant seem to find the problem . it had some issues with a tail light pigtail being burnt out a few months ago would that have shorted out the pump ? other than that issue i love the thing it fits me perfectly and has been super reliable
All valid issues, but numero uno in my list of problems with these models is one that carried over to the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon's, and probably the Escalade. That being the plastic dash that cracked (multiple cracks actually) on every vehicle made (or at least the one's sold in Texas), and GM would do nothing about it. I owned a 2007 Avalanche LTZ for almost 10 years and a 2014 Yukon Denali for 7 years. Both started breaking down after only about 4 years. You would think GM would have fixed this issue by the 2014 model. Other than that, these were great vehicles.
So far I've only experienced the lifter issue on my 2011. Thought it was taken care of, but I recently noticed they still make noise when it's rainy or really foggy out. Also had issues with the oil pressure sensor and recently had a fuel tank strap rust off.
If you after speedomter get stuck or not working right ( not showing correct speed ) simpling discount the batery Neg- cable wait 45 sec. and reconect it. This will reset it :)
Bingo ! Every issued mentioned Plus the cracked dash! Also panel light in dash so can’t see driving mode Or low oil warnings!! Found this today ! Looking for gas smell reasons
That damn EVAP system. My vapor canister started breaking up sending little charcoal beads that got all the way to my fuel tank. It was intermittent though and I only found it after replacing my 3rd (don’t judge me) EVAP Canister and the little beads started falling out. Eventually had to drop and drain my whole fuel tank. Sometimes it would take me 30 minutes to fill up with fuel because it would keep cutting off the pump. Thanks for the video and I’ve had 2/5 problems so far lol. I have a 2011 Avy LTZ.
Other problem that are common and re occur over and over again are weak CV boots (I replaced my passenger side one 3 times in one year...thank God my mechanic warranted the parts). I opted for the "winter" CV boots, and they seem to last longer I believe it's the boot material which is better. Also weak front axle seals leak no matter what. I also got an AFM disabler that keeps my 5.3L in 8 cylinder mode, best purchase I've made so far.
Afm issue. Check. Door handle check. Plastic fading on the sails. Check. Throttle body. Check but I can’t seem to ever completely fill mine either so check on the evap. It’s ok tho. I don’t have afm anymore. Painting my sails this weekend. Door handle was fixed before I got it throttle body is still hanging in there tho. Probably doesn’t like the stage 2 cam I got
Love my 07 Avalanche LTZ but at 149k miles the AFM failed and it cost 6k to rebuild the motor. Now I use a obd2 modular to prevent the 4 cylinder shutdown. I live in Commiefornia so I cannot get rid of the AFM or reflash the ECM. All the plastics on the dashboard are starting to crack at other areas besides the top areas that are most common I see from other models. This is just a few I mentioned. Now I refuse to buy any gmc vehicles again. Every other vehicles I have that are Japanese never had major problems like this.
What about the sway bar mounting bracket rusting away on the passenger side from the a/c condensation dripping on it constantly.. That's a BIG problem if you ask me.
I have a 2009 Chevy Avalanche LTZ (125K miles) and experiencing the following issues: 1. The dashboard cracks 2. Chrome on the door handles is ripping off 3. Suspension error Any good mechanic recommendation near the Northern Virginia region. :-)
I think with number 5 the best bet is to paint it I seen it on another youtube video where the guy painted the trim the same color as the truck or maybe something like PlastiDip or getting it wrap not sure how well that would work
I've worked thru most of the issues 1. Range AFM Delete 2. Oil Pressure Sensor 3. Purge Valve & Vent 4. Goes thru headlights which are a pia to change. 5. 236k miles Anyone having "service charging system" alerts?
at 190k we lost the #4 cyl lifters. one of the cyl that shuts down for economic driving. had. no warning. tractions lights came on and went into limp mode. camshaft was still good made repairs just the lifters and all the gaskets.
My 2008 Avalanche drivers front door and passenger rear door body molding keeps peeling off. I just turned 58,000 miles(yes, that's correct) and I've replaced them 3 times already!
If you're meaning the bump guards that run almost in the middle of all the doors, just take them off and buff the paint under them back out. Looks better without them
Buying a 2013 Avalanche with cloth seats. If I buy a used junkyard front leather seat with heat and air, are the wiring there to plug in the used seat? Hoping they make one wiring harness for all the trucks. If the plugs are there, will the controls then be on the display?
My engine light was ON, diagnostic check by GM Dealer told me there is a “hole” rust at the top of the Gas Tank and it needs replaced. After filling it with gas a few times the Engine light went OFF. How imperative is it that I get this replaced? Could it have just been the gas cap?? How do they see the “hole at the top of the tank without taking the whole gastank out?
Okay - Hive - I have a 2013 Avalanche with p219a and b (both banks) going off. Air to fuel ratios. I have replaced, O2 sensors, lifters, fuel injectors, Air filter, The MAF. I have had the Entire system checked parallel to a Twin - ALL the readings are in spec. But Still after only 2 km I get random misfires - not specific to Any one cylinder . Lean and Rich is all over the map. Could this Really be fuel Cap? or the ECM? Or am I looking in the wrong direction?
Don’t forget the oil sending unit which creates each individual to invent his very own swearword or two! And although they have plastic fuel tanks where the sending unit and the pump are located is not a stainless steel plate looks like just raw metal becausethey rust out in about 10 years to the day! Yep more swearwords are invented there too! And the other minor pain in the ass is the drive motors for the electric seats yup when you get to that part there might not be new swearwords there But you’ll think about it exclamation
Hello guys! I’m wondering if anyone can tell me why a 2003 Chevy avalanche 1500 5.3 would say reduced engine power while driving? It’ll let me drive 50 miles a hr but won’t go any faster and won’t rev up when I stop but if I shut truck off for a minute it will be good again but don’t happen often. Thanks
How about that main issues the no crank not start issue mine is at the dealer for the second time the first time they said it was the fuse box and its mack in the at the dealer for the same thing turned the key and nothing so if u no why pls. Let me no thanks
I have a 07 ltz and have had a problem with stabilitrac/ traction control going on and off, when it goes off the truck runs rough and shifts hard, but when I get it up to speed the light goes out and everything back to normal. Anybody have any fixes for this?
Believe that is a hub/wheel speed sensor. Stabilitrak kicks in when two wheels are perceived to be turning at different speeds and the truck thinks the tires are spinning.

🤦🏿♂️The fact that they even suggested that 🤔
I have a 2009 Chevy Avalanche LTZ (125K miles) and experiencing the following issues:
1. The dashboard cracks
2. Chrome on the door handles is ripping off
3. Suspension error
Any good mechanic recommendation near the Northern Virginia region. :-)
I think with number 5 the best bet is to paint it I seen it on another youtube video where the guy painted the trim the same color as the truck or maybe something like PlastiDip or getting it wrap not sure how well that would work
Use Wipe New for plastic. You must degrease the plastic before applying the product.
Can you show us where the turn signal relay is located on a 2010 Silverado ?
I've worked thru most of the issues
1. Range AFM Delete
2. Oil Pressure Sensor
3. Purge Valve & Vent
4. Goes thru headlights which are a pia to change.
5. 236k miles
Anyone having "service charging system" alerts?
at 190k we lost the #4 cyl lifters. one of the cyl that shuts down for economic driving. had. no warning. tractions lights came on and went into limp mode. camshaft was still good made repairs just the lifters and all the gaskets.
Just bought a 2003 with 287k for 2500 needs trans rebuild but it runs like new im surprised i can even drive it around with 2 gears lol
Lmao wow, you fix it?
I definitely had to get that done on mine
4lL60e transmission problems in the next video...
My 2008 Avalanche drivers front door and passenger rear door body molding keeps peeling off. I just turned 58,000 miles(yes, that's correct) and I've replaced them 3 times already!
Use a stronger adhesive
If you're meaning the bump guards that run almost in the middle of all the doors, just take them off and buff the paint under them back out. Looks better without them
Mine had the discoloration due to the factory defect. Looks awful.
forgot to mention the good old 4l60 lol
Great video Bro! Im looking into possibly buying one to pull trailer.
Thanks a lot
Buying a 2013 Avalanche with cloth seats. If I buy a used junkyard front leather seat with heat and air, are the wiring there to plug in the used seat? Hoping they make one wiring harness for all the trucks. If the plugs are there, will the controls then be on the display?
I have a 2010 Avalanche. Can do a video on how to fix all of this?
My engine light was ON, diagnostic check by GM Dealer told me there is a “hole” rust at the top of the Gas Tank and it needs replaced. After filling it with gas a few times the Engine light went OFF. How imperative is it that I get this replaced? Could it have just been the gas cap?? How do they see the “hole at the top of the tank without taking the whole gastank out?
do you know the code off hand?
I get a p2138. Will changing the throttle body help with this code?
Okay - Hive - I have a 2013 Avalanche with p219a and b (both banks) going off. Air to fuel ratios. I have replaced, O2 sensors, lifters, fuel injectors, Air filter, The MAF. I have had the Entire system checked parallel to a Twin - ALL the readings are in spec. But Still after only 2 km I get random misfires - not specific to Any one cylinder . Lean and Rich is all over the map. Could this Really be fuel Cap? or the ECM? Or am I looking in the wrong direction?
Amazed Chevy stopped building these.
I recommend using peanut butter to restore your plastic trim. But only if you want rodents gnawing on your truck...
Drawtite 41930 a good replacement for the crap factory hitch?
Nice
Don’t forget the oil sending unit which creates each individual to invent his very own swearword or two! And although they have plastic fuel tanks where the sending unit and the pump are located is not a stainless steel plate looks like just raw metal becausethey rust out in about 10 years to the day! Yep more swearwords are invented there too! And the other minor pain in the ass is the drive motors for the electric seats yup when you get to that part there might not be new swearwords there But you’ll think about it exclamation
So what’s the fix for the afm?
Thanks
Mine did that except it would only go about 20 mph. That’s when I had to replace the throttle body.
Lifsters??
🙂☕👍great job on your video
He is literally telling the obvious of most all vehicles.
I have an 07 ltz that the hard plastic around the rear windshield has cracked what can I do to fix it or what is that part called? Blonde but not dumb
NEVER USE A HEaT GUN. Its a temp fix but will fade again and look worse then it did before using hest gun.
How about that main issues the no crank not start issue mine is at the dealer for the second time the first time they said it was the fuse box and its mack in the at the dealer for the same thing turned the key and nothing so if u no why pls. Let me no thanks
Missed one that damn dashboard 😂
He forgot the problem of the filter under the oil sending unit plugging up. Change the oil every 3500-4000 miles and you will not have this problem!
+service1956 Thanks for the tip!
2008 Chevy avalanche and when I drive my radio turns on and off
Rust
Why did you sell your avalanche?
How many cars this guy had?
He always say "I used to have one".
I'm starting don't believe in 1A Auto.
Pam cooking spray
you forgot the tailgate handle lol
Peanut butter? What does that do?
I’m stuck
I have a 07 ltz and have had a problem with stabilitrac/ traction control going on and off, when it goes off the truck runs rough and shifts hard, but when I get it up to speed the light goes out and everything back to normal. Anybody have any fixes for this?
Believe that is a hub/wheel speed sensor. Stabilitrak kicks in when two wheels are perceived to be turning at different speeds and the truck thinks the tires are spinning.
I'm having that same issue now, how did you fix yours?
Is car 2021
It's no wonder why so many people are switching to Toyota. LOL
My avalanche is trash
Never get one of these people one of the worst vehicles ever made I had one 08 ltz just get a Tahoe trust me just get a Tahoe
What if we need s truck/ suv???
it's basically the same vehicle just different body?
