- Matheran Narrow Gauge train. It plies between Neral and Matheran stations. Neral is a station on main railway line between Mumbai and Pune and Matheran is a hill station on a nearby mountain not very far from Mumbai. It was initially owned privately but subsequently handed over to Central division of Indian Railways.
Heritage trains give sweet memories. Some meter gauge , some narrow gauge, some steam runs trains are essentially required to remind us of our past.

Matheran ek chota sa hill station hai Mumbai ke pass, wahan sadak toh jaati hai lekin motor vehicles not allowed to enter the small town on top.

These remaining narrow and meter gauge trains should not be converted to broad gauge. These are beauties of our country. People are eager to travel in these trains.

They can't be converted to broad gauge. Broad gauge is for low gradient and much bigger turns, and higher speeds.
If it were broad gauge, it will have to be a different alignment altogether.
There are five (5) narrow gauge trains in India, namely Kalka-Shimla, Darjleeing, Nilgiri, Matheran and Kangra Valley Railway, and all of them are in the mountains, so turning them into broad gauge not possible. Moroever, they are UNESCO Heritigage so conversion not allowed. Internet mentions only 4 narrow gauge in India, but they forget there is one in Kangra-Valley (2'6" gague) also making it total 5.

Indian Railways (April 2018) Is to preserve 5 Of Its Metre-Gauge Lines ... the Visavadar-Talala line in Gujarat(42 km), the Mhow-Patalpani-Kalakand line in Madhya Pradesh (30 km), the Mavli Junction-Marwar Junction line in Rajasthan (162 km), the Nanpur-Mailani line in Uttar Pradesh (171 km) and the Mahur-Harangjao metre-gauge line in Assam (47 km)
What is about Darjeeling toy train?
Shimla, Ooty and Darjeeling narrow gauge trains are UNESCO World Heritage, they are already preserved.

Indian Railways (June 2018) is to preserve 5 narrow gauge (2 feet 6 inches) rail lines in Gujarat,
the Dabhoi-Miyagam line (33km), the Miyagam-Malsar line, (38 km). the Charonda-Moti Karal line (19 km), the Pratap Nagar-Jambusar line (51 km), and the Bilmora-Waghi line (63 km)

Thanks for your comment. Please do visit, it is near Mumbai, but make sure it is operational before coming. During monsoon it does not operate due to heavy rains.

Beautiful..just one question..why is there no electrification in the narrow/metre gauge?it's only diesel locomotives in these alignments
It is a hill station of Matheran near Mumbai. May be electrification not possible in the mountains. Moreover, it is narrow gauge not meter gauge, hence also called toy train.
