I'm actual Indonesian here, and also live in java, but nowhere near those sugar mills who had narrow gauge train, most of sugar mills train now replaced with diesel locomotive, the steam locomotive is still use but it to often have breakdowns due to their age,the rail was buried in soil when is not harvesting seasons, yes these train are operational on harvesting seasons, some of the railways goes through someone else front yard, lastly train sometimes derails, and we still use wood and soil to rerailing them.
Try to understand my English, since i wasn't good enough on it.

It's incredible that you have captured many narrow gauge sugarcane trains in Java.
I used to ran tours in pre-pandemic era where I took railway enthusiasts from around the world to see those steam engines in Java.
I may restart my tour program next year.

Great content! Bless. Steam power has a place. I am fascinated by the working-capital established generations past still serving the community. Worn, in need of parts, and wasting resources - but - serving the community. meeting a need. Thank you.

I wish there was a way to let these engineers and firemen just how much they are appreciated. You run these old beasts with little outside maintenance help like they are brand new off the factory. The work done is critical to these smaller rural communities.

I grew up in sugar cane country in South La. Although things have improved greatly since I was a child, mills are governed by two overriding principles: Do whatever you have to do mechanically to get the machinery to make it through grinding. Secondly, if the machine made it through grinding it’s good to go for next grinding season. Thus the sorry need for bushings and the like expressed by a previous poster.

Aren't I correct in saying that 1st. loco in Eritrea wasn't even known to exist let alone be running, and can some-one please tell me what it's make is. One of those Sugar Mills had a green inside wheeled "Luttermoller"?, - only one left in the World - but I don't think we saw it.
