India - Darjeeling Railway 2006. Part 2 - The Climb Begins

  • Taken from 12 year old tapes. Please excuse any quality issues.
    This is a look back at the second part of my second visit to this fascinating narrow gauge line. In 1881, the line was completed from Siliguri junction, on the broad gauge main line, all the way up into the Himalayan foothills to the summer camp of Darjeeling. In its 55 mile length, the line rises from 100 metres above sea level to around 2300 metres above sea level. The 2ft gauge 0-4-0 saddle tanks are surprisingly powerful and make a very distinctive sound as they blast their way up the mountain sides.
    In this sequence, the powerful little B Class tank loco starts the climb up into the Himalayas. The track twists and winds its way up the mountain side, through the forests of the lower foothills, with the sound of the steam loco echoing around the valleys.
    Part 3 can be found at - • India - Darjeeling Rai...

    This type of trains huge dangerous smoke pollution should be banned. Restricted., by the law they should be punished and court case over them. This pollution worsens surrounded natural environment, especially on Hill stations.

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  4 роки тому

      This line is a major tourist attraction for the Darjeeling area and brings in valuable foreign money. However, I agree that steam locomotives are bad polluters. Most of what you can see in the smoke, though, are the particulates which fall to the ground rapidly. The real damage is done by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. These are given out in just as large a quantity by road vehicles, aircraft, ships and power stations. There are only a tiny number of steam locos left working and they are beautiful and fascinating machines. They are a valuable relic from our industrial past and need to be saved from destruction. The pollution from these few steam locos is TINY compared to the pollution from the billions of road vehicles, aircraft and ships in the world. Getting rid of just a handful of steam locomotives will make no difference to the world but getting rid of the pollution from road vehicles would probably sort the problem in one move. If you’d like to save our Earth from disaster, please get rid of your car or motor bike, don’t buy anything that has been delivered by air, sea or lorry, switch off your electricity at home, never go on holiday by aircraft or car. Not easy, is it?

      قاطرات البخار هي ملوثات سيئة ، ولكن معظم ما تراه في الدخان هو الجسيمات التي تسقط على الأرض بسرعة. الضرر الحقيقي يحدث بواسطة غازات الدفيئة مثل ثاني أكسيد الكربون. يتم إعطاء هذه في كمية كبيرة مثل بواسطة مركبات الطرق والطائرات والسفن ومحطات الطاقة. لا يوجد سوى عدد ضئيل من مواقع البخار التي تركت تعمل وهي آلات جميلة ورائعة. إنها بقايا قيمة من ماضينا الصناعي وتحتاج إلى إنقاذها من الدمار. التلوث من هذه المواقع البخارية القليلة هو TINY بالمقارنة مع التلوث من مليارات المركبات على الطرق والطائرات والسفن في العالم. لن يكون للتخلص من حفنة من قاطرات البخار أي فرق في العالم ، لكن التخلص من التلوث الناتج عن المركبات على الطرق من شأنه أن يحل المشكلة في خطوة واحدة. إذا كنت تريد إنقاذ أرضنا من الكارثة ، فالرجاء التخلص من سيارتك أو دراجتك النارية ، لا تشتري أي شيء تم تسليمه عن طريق الجو أو البحر أو الشاحنة ، أو قم بإغلاق الكهرباء في المنزل ، ولا تذهب في عطلة أبدًا طائرة أو سيارة. ليس سهلا ، أليس كذلك؟

      Steam locomotives are bad polluters, but most of what you can see in the smoke are the particulates which fall to the ground rapidly. Паровозы являются плохими загрязнителями, но большинство того, что вы можете увидеть в дыму, это частицы, которые быстро падают на землю. Настоящий ущерб наносят парниковые газы, такие как углекислый газ. Они выдаются в таком же количестве дорожными транспортными средствами, самолетами, кораблями и электростанциями. Осталось только небольшое количество паровых локомотивов, и это красивые и захватывающие машины. Они являются ценным пережитком нашего промышленного прошлого и должны быть спасены от разрушения. Загрязнение от этих нескольких паровых локомотивов крошечное по сравнению с загрязнением от миллиардов дорожных транспортных средств, самолетов и кораблей в мире. Если вы хотите спасти нашу Землю от катастрофы, пожалуйста, избавьтесь от своего автомобиля или мотоцикла, не покупайте ничего, что было доставлено воздушным, морским или грузовым автомобилем, отключайте электричество дома, никогда не отправляйтесь в отпуск самолет или машина… о, и выключите компьютер, который вы используете, чтобы посмотреть мои видео !!! स्टीम लोकोमोटिव खराब प्रदूषक हैं, लेकिन आप धुएं में जो कुछ भी देख सकते हैं उनमें से अधिकांश कण हैं जो तेजी से जमीन पर गिरते हैं। असली नुकसान कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड जैसी ग्रीनहाउस गैसों से होता है। ये सड़क वाहनों, विमानों, जहाजों और बिजली स्टेशनों द्वारा बड़ी मात्रा में दिए गए हैं। केवल बहुत कम संख्या में स्टीम लोको काम कर रहे हैं और वे सुंदर और आकर्षक मशीनें हैं। वे हमारे औद्योगिक अतीत से एक मूल्यवान अवशेष हैं और विनाश से बचाने की आवश्यकता है। दुनिया के अरबों सड़क वाहनों, विमानों और जहाजों से होने वाले प्रदूषण की तुलना में इन कुछ स्टीम लोको से होने वाला प्रदूषण टिनि है। यदि आप हमारी पृथ्वी को आपदा से बचाना चाहते हैं, तो कृपया अपनी कार या मोटर बाइक से छुटकारा पाएं, ऐसी कोई भी वस्तु न खरीदें जो हवा, समुद्र या लॉरी द्वारा पहुंचाई गई हो, घर पर अपनी बिजली बंद कर दें, कभी भी छुट्टी पर न जाएं विमान या कार। आसान नहीं है, है ना?
