  • Hello folks! Today I want to show you my new restoration project. That old rusty drawknife I found at flea market and bought for USD $1. I never had this tool for woodworking. First of all I removed old wood handles from drawknife and use electrolysis to remove all rusty from the blade.
Then I used angle grinder to make homogeneous effect on the blade and finally used sandpapers. After I made decision to left it in old vintage style due to I don't want to remove a lot of metal to make shine effect. Well, then I use ash tree wood for handles. In finally I get new good woodworking tool, I happy! I hope you enjoy this restoration project too. Thank you for watching!
    Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Don’t apologize for the primitive method of heating the metal. A lot of times the primitive method still works. I also like how you didn’t over work the metal too much. I don’t mind the patina on in at all. Another great project friend!

A sensitive restoration of the drawknife, and a really sharp edge - well done.

Never apologize for the methods that you use. If it works for you then so be it. Who are we to say what works for you or not. It looks fantastic btw.

I have two, also called ‘spokeshaves’, each of which is concaved opposite to one another. They are very old, from wooden vehicle wheel days. My dad told me they have to be as sharp as a knife, so they don’t slip in use. Like the handles: getting dropped tends to break them, so the ring protectors is great idea

You use it with the curve the other way so it catches better and gouges into the wood. Doing it like that is similar to using a pocket knife. The curve is designed to make the shaving easier. You did an amazing job though

In 106 AD, the Romans conquered a part of Dacia, i. e., a part of today's Romania. They left between 271-275, because of the Goths. In the Roman epoch, a woodworking craftman, named Herennius, had such a tool, like the inscription on the drawknife proofs it.

You know what? I really like your primitive method!!! One advice (no offense bro) : you have to sharp the blade a bit more! Thanks for sharing!!

Very nice. Please tell me you didn't use table salt for the electrolysis. The NaCl will release chlorine gas! Use baking soda instead.

Don't apologize. You are man doing things your way. You needed heat so you took it from your stove. If it works it works.

Try a wire brush on your grinder next time. Far less abrasive than a dremel and stone

Why do you always block our view of the initial cleaning steps?? The ones using a wire wheel??
Those are the most satisfying to watch, but you always block the our view and we only see your back and your arms scrubbing it

I don't understand why you make an electrolysis before grinding and sanding the tool until bare metal. It's just wasting your time...

    • @ScrewsAndTools
      @ScrewsAndTools  4 роки тому

Hello, thank you for attention. First of all electrolysis process remove all little piece of rusty and dirty from stuff. And if
at first I will use grinding or sending I will get so much dust and dirty and secondly it's I should be removed a lot of metal to remove all rusty from little plots.
