I love that you do so much with basic tools and that you improvise when you don't have the tool you need (lathe).

That macgyver lathe is excellent, I was thinking of cobbling something like that together myself.

Excellent job with a badly abused old chisel. You even knurled the end cap. Fancy!

kudos on the home made lathe. I like it. I had a store bought drill powered lathe years ago. Now I have a store bought setup that turns a hand electric drill into a drill press. Makes for better precision. Actually I think the tool you did here is better suited to use on the lathe, though it can obviously do double duty. You can make all the lathe tools you need if you can get hold of some decent steel rods. Obviously you can make the handles and shape the heads. however you want. A skew chisel, a gouge or two and a parting tool are all you really need for most wood turning.... and some practice of course. Do whatever you can to make sure your tool rest is sturdy and doesn't move at all. A strip of metal across the top will help the tool glide easier. So long as you can get pretty good steel, you can make any tool you want. It doesn't even have to be high priced tool steel, but must have a bit of hardness to it, once it's shaped. very mild still will work for like a minute, but not long.

Awesome 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. That being said please stop the "F***ING apologies". You are a craftsman . You do do things with minimal tools that others with well equipped shops can't do. I subscribed to your channel and watch your videos because you bring old things back to life and you share in the continuation of the things you revive with the original makers.

This gentleman is a true craftsman with great skills, however having a new very expensive lathe wouldn't make his work any better. Remember, the craftsmen of the age when this chisel was new didn't have electricity, or any other power tools, other than human powered.
