  • I did my best to remove the vocals using the stereo mix and folded the end product down to mono.
    The sound quality isn't perfect but this is probably the closest we can get to a true instrumental of this classic song.

    Since I can’t go back in time and ask the boys to record an instrumental this will have to suffice. Enjoy!

    My band from Ma. ,back in 1965, played this song at our dances and concerts, it was a great song to sing and harmonize . Plus all the nuances in the guitars and drums was great too.

    "The Last Time" really epitomizes that cool mid-sixties sound. The hook on this song is incredible. Brian was a genius 🎸

    An amazing Brian Jones riff

  • @mcashnv
    @mcashnv Рік тому +4

    The solo is actually two different guitars/parts. Listen closely. And during the chorus there is another rhythm guitar buried way down low.

    • @trabongo
      @trabongo 9 місяців тому

      For me... In the solo there are Brian riff, Keith rythm guitar... and Keith lead guitar.... 3 guitars. Or... do you mean 4! guitars?

    • @mcashnv
      @mcashnv 9 місяців тому +1

      On certain 'stereo' mixes you can hear two separate, distinct guitars playing the solo. These are not rhythm guitars or Brian playing the riff. One guitar plays the initial chord tones and another plays the single notes, sort of trading back & forth. They are either Keith double-tracking or Brian & Keith weaving together. @@trabongo

    • @trabongo
      @trabongo 9 місяців тому

      Listening again... It's clear that the solo is a mix of single notes and chords, right? Well, I think that some echo and distorction crestes a second lead guitar ilusion...

    “Mick and I knew by now that really our job was to write songs for the Stones. It took us eight, nine months before we came up with “The Last Time,” which is the first one that we felt we could give to the rest of the guys without being sent out of the room. If I’d gone to the Rolling Stones with “As Tears Go By,” it would have been ‘Get out and don’t come back.’ Mick and I were trying to hone it down. We kept coming up with these ballads, nothing to do with what we were doing. And then finally we came up with “The Last Time” and looked at each other and said, *let’s try this with the boys. The song has the first recognizable Stones riff or guitar figure on it* ; the chorus is from the Staple Singers’ version, “This May Be the Last Time.” We could work this hook; now we had to find the verse. It had a Stones twist to it, one that maybe couldn’t have been written earlier-a song about going on the road and dumping some chick. “You don’t try very hard to please me.” Not the usual serenade to the unattainable object of desire. That was when it really clicked, with that song, when Mick and I felt confident enough *to actually lay it in front of Brian and Charlie and Ian Stewart* , especially, arbiter of events. With those earlier songs, we would have been chased out the room. But that song defined us in a way, and it went to number one in the UK. - Keith Richards from his autobiography “Life”
    *I guess this makes it clear where the riff Brian plays came from...*
    *Keith wrote it when he wrote the song well before he brought it to the rest of the band*

      There're really two possibilities with this guy;): He's either a total troll - unproven sh*t like, well, since Keith's hired author claimed in "Life" that Stu took care of sh*t other than driving and playing golf, "Stu was the real founder" at least shows he's read some history books, however.....- or "Willard Billmore" (I'm gonna assume offhand that the great u.S. president he takes his name from was also Dutchie) works for the Stones conglomerate, Iorr, that seem to be housed in Holland. They have backstage access (or at least its webmaster, bjornulf, does) and are very key in propagandizing the party line for two "gentlemen" who will no doubt die remembered as murderers

      I've read the same quote from Keith and Bill Wyman, that whoever you hear playing the riff is the one who made it up. Except the harp on Little Red Rooster, that Brian taught Mick to play, which imitates the slide guitar riff on the fade out. Case closed.
