Then don't use an impact driver. Use a 18/20 volt drill driver, or hammer drill. Both, come with an adjustable clutch. Plus, are 10 times more useful for other projects than a 12 volt tool.

The surge does have pretty good low speed control and can do 95% of what most would do with a standard impact. I own the m18 version, but still picked up the Bosch Chameleon with last month's 149 deal. Having the attachments for one tool is quite handy, especially if you are putting things together like IKea type things and miscellaneous thinfs like grills, etc.

I'm 6'3" but I don't have particularly huge hands and the M12 are extremely comfortable to me. I love the fact that with the 1.5Ah battery they're pretty much the smallest full power tools you can get. Dial it up to 7 and you can handle most pocket hole screws. Need a small drill for drilling a small pilot hole and then drive a fastener, this is your tool. In my shop if I had to keep just one tool. I have the Dewalt 12v Screwdriver with the clutch like that and it is a much better option in many cases than using an impact. I set dial around 7 typically.

I can highly reccomend the Dewalt 12v Screwdriver. DCF601 I got mine at lowes. Strong enough to sink a 3 inch wood screw into a 2x4 not predrilled. Nice clutch when you don't need to give it the beans.

So when do you use an impact then? If you don't use it to screw on or off stuff and you don't use it to screw on high-torque applications...only taking off high-torque, what elsd are they for?
And whats the difference between a cordless ratchet and these?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've actually heard the opposite as well. Some people say that an impact is so versatile that screwdrivers and drill/drivers are pretty much obsolete. I wish someone would make a video showing the tasks that each of these driving tools is meant to accomplish instead of just showing off that their impact will drill 1 inch holes in stids all day.

@@chrisloehr6641 People who say screwdrivers and drills are obsolete are idiots. Let's see you drill a 1/2" hole in concrete with an impact. Drills will always do a better job at drilling than impacts, and the same thing goes for screwdrivers.

Jeff, I'm an RC technician, and I use and swear by (not at) the brushed DeWalt 12V Max screwdriver. On setting 1, the clutch won't accidentally strip a hole, which is something the 4V Ryobi screwdriver did all too often. One of my co-workers uses the Bearcules 12V, and likes it, but he loves the DeWalt more, as the Bearcules has a bad tendency to strip holes. The gyro DeWalt works fairly well, also, if you can get used to the actuation method (twisting your wrist, instead of pulling a trigger). I've not had much feedback from anyone using the Milwaukee 12V, though.

    • @voxamplifier3335
      @voxamplifier3335 3 роки тому

True but there’s always a chance of over tightening the screw and then your day is ruined. With a screw driver, just set it to the right torque setting and no need to worry about timing it correctly.

Speaking of the Dewalt 90° driver attachment. HD has a bit set with a free 90° for less than the original cost of the adapter.
But the one I want is the Dewalt flex adapter for your 3/8 impact or drill. The kit has the 90° and the 8 or 9 inch (not sure exactly) flex cable for 29.00 regular price.

I am still using a 20V lithium craftsman that is about 15 years old i bought a spare battery on sale when they were dumping them because of failure issues. One of the batteries dies after a year. It is a drill with a 10 step clutch. I put in a screwdriver bit and rarely break or strip a screw…. But i am looking for a replacement dril, driver, impact wrench system.

I'm an appliance service tech. I bought the Bosch driver when it was first released. Since then, Ive gone through a few of them, earlier this year, my most recent driver began making some not so good noises and smells. I'm not to crazy about the newest Bosch drivers and I'm sort of a Makita fanboy so I got the Makita. I love it. I only wish they would release the brushless version in the US.

I wasn't talking camming them out, you can break a ton of small fasteners and damage alot of high dollar finish items, and if you got a problem with a clutch then you wouldn't have been able to work in alot places I've worked in and on for the last 35 years. I didn't say Impacts both wrenches and drivers didn't have a place in the toolbox, but a custom made piece shouldn't ever be gone at with an impact driver when being installed.

Jeff you are right. I think partially tool companies are at fault for selling the impact with a drill/driver as a kit. Many DIYers myself included start with this kit as one of the first power tool acquisition. Logistically it was natural to put the predrilling/pilot hole drill bit in the drill/driver and using the impact to drive the screws. It also took me many damaged screw heads, ruined pocket holes & a ton of frustration to realize the problem. I learnt it hard way but now when my family/friends ask me for tool buying advice I steer them away from a typical kit. Instead I get them a single drill/driver kit knowing most of them are just furniture assemblers or installing a shelf or a towel rod around the house.
I hope many viewers watch this video and heed your advice.
Take care and Shine On !

I ordered this because one of my guys constantly uses an impact to take off plates and install downspouts. I yell at him almost daily. Now he can use the proper tool.
