If you skip the first stitch, the body can be smaller.
If it's still small after not skipping fist stitch, also crochet in the ''slip stitch'' stitch or the last stitch of a row♡

you'll find 2 gaps in each hdc from the ribbing, so make 2 hdc on the gaps of each hdc from the ribbing and stay consistent. that way it doesn’t shrink
