My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

Stick shift is the best anti theft device in America.
I learned on one, Ya I say the same thing.lol
until you get the kid who was taught stick.
Unless it was someone from the UK stealing it
Facts
Thought so too… but then you get a car with a busted trans a kid molested
A snowbird is a someone (typically retired) who spends a few months of the year down south (typically Florida or Arizona) but lives the rest of the year up north.
Basically, they fly south for the winter
Reminds me of a song my mother listened to.
Snow Bird. Brenda Lee
New York from May to October. Florida from November to April. It's the early bird special for snowbirds ❄🦅
Yep. Many snowbirds from Canada (Ontario and Quebec) all go to Florida in the winter.
Don't know about elsewhere, but in Montana, it also usually means that it's well taken care of as they leave their car here and have another down south.
I love manual transmissions. Both my kids know how to drive them. They can travel the world, rent a car and go anywhere
Really suck if you have certain juries.
Ummm... stick shift doesn't determine the validity of the engine
I love them too.. except in traffic. Then you just wind up riding the clutch.
Sticks are obsolete. Sticks are old manual tech that distracts drivers. If your american, you don't need to know how to drive a stick. EVs are eliminating transmissions completely even for europe.
not if you know how to drive them@@JimAllen-Persona
I learned to drive in a truck with a "3 on the tree" shifter and a dimmer switch on the floor.
I learned in 1966 that you had to pump the brakes on an old truck, as I steered it thru the fence! 😊
Dimmer switch in the floor. In the 70s my father bought a 1950 Dodge truck. 3 on the column. That was a tank. Steel beams for bumpers. I lot of fun and major workout to drive it around locally. It’s wasn’t built for speed or long drives.
My hats-off to who ever edit these videos!
Great work on showing the preview of car in lot, then car in auction. Lots of editing to show us.
Blessings to all ...
nice bot account
first 2 cars, winners payed more than i would pay as a buyer from them for the cars.
😂
EVERYTIME YOU BADLY RIP PEOPLE OFF ( THE GREEDY CAR DEALERS/ MARK UPS) - YOU WILL LOOSE WAY MORE THAN YOU STOLE FROM OTHERS!!! IT'S JUST NATURE 😁 ... NOW IT'S PAYBACK
Dealers here in Central Illinois ,,business as usual,Fools purchasing,we treat you like family, SOS,.
Lol if that was remotely true our governments wouldn't be run by literal devil worshipping child killers
When you mentioned that powertrains are better now, I agree and just wish someone out there would build a stripped-down high-reliability, easy maintenance car. Find a body style and stick to it like the VW bug did for years, and only upgrade basic safety things over time when they are cheap and highly reliable (like disc brakes and ABS are now).
Oh, you mean a bottom tier toyota. 😂
Honestly, it's hard to feel bad when dealers are asking way too much and think everything is gold. If the average person cant afford an average used vehicle you can't feel bad. Greed ray and Zach need to figure that out.
Yeah I just want to buy something at a reasonable price. I won't now for sure.
Ray and Zack are PAID STOOGES
Also, at those prices, you can buy a luxery Chinese electric moped that cones in at around 5K USD. They're basically designed for the city, and are road legal so long as you stay off the highways. Then when you do need to travel on the highways, you can rent at a fraction of the cost of buying
I have owned 4 or 5 sports cars through the years. Recently I worked for a new car dealership and a salesman brought in a Lotus sports car for some work. He parked it in the way and it had to be moved. The young kids who worked as porters (lot boys in my day) could not move it because they did not know how to drive a manual transmission. They said I could not even get into it, but I slid in like I was greased because I know how to get into a sports car. Fortunately they did not see the 2 minutes it took me to figure out how to get out of the stupid thing. I had to move it three times and my desire to have one expired that day.
Several years ago I read an article about this young lady, best I recall late teens/early 20’s, that had a stick Nissan, Sentra I believe, and she had the misfortune of being carjacked by 3-4 gang members. I think they jumped her when she stopped at a light. Anyway, after forcing her into the back they couldn’t make their escape because none of them knew how to operate a manual transmission, so after watching the one in the driver’s seat nearly tear the gearbox apart she offered to drive them anywhere they wanted to go, so they put her back in the go seat. She was smart, her dad taught her well on how to think through a crisis situation, but I’m sure she was scared to death. She rode them around the downtown area for awhile, until she spotted a marked cruiser at a 4 way intersection, she plays it cool until just before the corner, the light starts to change and she has downshifted, as the light is going red she nails the gas, dumps the clutch and hurls into the intersection as she pulls it to neutral, pops the driver’s door and bails into the street in front of the cops. It was risky and she got scratched up and bruised, but it was certainly better than what fate awaited her if she didn’t. They caught all of them, they couldn’t get away, and I’m sure her dad and mom were proud of her courage. I don’t remember where it occurred, but some searching of the enderwebs ought to pull it from archives.
Omg. Few things make a person feel old than someone having childhood memories in vehicles that your kids grew up in.
I used to drive stick at one time, but then my bad knees said otherwise. 😬
I do miss driving a stick though.
I've had 4 or 5 manual cars in my life, but honestly the automatic 8 speed I've got now with paddle shifters is great. Autos have come a long way since the days of the "slush box."
Bad knees is no excuse for not driving stick
Unless your main ride is a rascal scooter
What kinda clutch do you have that can hurt that knee bone 😁
@@imfloridano5448anyone is one accident away from being disabled
It does get a little tiresome. Especially in city traffic, and I'm a young guy
Can't believe that old Ford van was marked sold. I would have thought they would need to pay someone to take it away.
Analog cars are in.
Vans are big
I wouldn't touch a first gen Nissan Leaf, no battery thermal management so if you lived in a hot climate like Las Vegas or Phoenix, it cooked the battery quickly.
my favorite comment today, 'I'm so ugly I'm awesome!" Love it!🤣😂🤣 The mic is better, but looked a bit weird on your hat...until you told us, I thought it was your garage door opener. LOL!
8600 for a 10 year old charger w almost 100k miles?? Dealer that bought that is gonna get Burned...waaay too high...
And yes, your sound is better.
Chargers are popular and have become even more popular when Dodge announced they replaced the Charger with an electric car. Used Chargers are expensive, so I can see a dealer selling it for around $12-$14k to a young man in his early 20s. The dealer will sell him mechanical repair coverage, paint protection, GAP, etc. and before you know it, the buyer finances around $18-$20k.
We had 4 Taurus's for the reasons you mentioned. They depreciated fast when new and became a good second hand buy. One got a transmission issue but we got it repaired for $2500 and drove it for another 4 years !
Yea they were great cars up until that last generation where they got stupid and did the timing chain driven water pump and all that.
I bought a nice Taurus for cheap and it's been extremely reliable-only required basic maintenance and replacement of basic wear parts. It's a good, cheap vehicle to have around as an extra car.
My wife's got rearended, last year they built them.
We had two, ALL KINDS of problems, mostly warped brake rotors, the brakes were WAY too small for the cars. Thermostat was also a major repair on the Duratec engine. Best part of those cars was the hood release on the 3rd gens.
@@rwdplz1 Our Duratec engined Taurus was constantly warping brake discs due to the lack of engine braking with that engine. I had to replace the discs every Spring and Fall !
7:20 - I’m liking that blue LEAF. 👍🏻😁
News flash.. dealers will not and are not going to lower prices. The upside is that there are more mechanic shops opening every day than ever in recent history. It might make more sense to just buy a high mileage used vehicle and get it repaired for dirt cheap.
Yup. Just paid a little over 4k to put a low mileage engine and transmission on my vehicle that lasted 300k on the original drivetrain. Much cheaper than a new vehicle, no payments, low insurance cost
My first car was a 2002 ford Taurus ses. Rolled it off a cliff in Arizona car was totaled took 2 tow trucks to pull it back to the road. Came out without a scratch. If I can ever find one in decent shape I would have no problem buying it.
How was it totalled but also didn't have a scratch? You're a dirty liar.
Why so you can roll it down another cliff😅
Just kidding, we all have a bad day ot 2, glad you are OK 👍
All those “high mileage” cars make me wonder how much my 23 year old truck with 1,237,000 miles would bring.
Tree fiddy
on what engine are you?
@@SoulTouchMusic93 all original. 7.3 power stroke
Get in touch with the manufacturer. They might want to put that truck in a commercial or a museum lol. Might get a new truck out of it.
@@3liteCasual the 7.3 is well known in the ford community to be the longest lasting engine ever put in a ford truck, having over a million miles is not rare with these. I wouldn’t trade for a new one, the new diesels are absolute crap they don’t even last 100k miles before needing major repairs and those are expensive. The EPA and technology has ruined diesels longevity. Sure the new ones have loads of torque but they wear themselves out quickly.
That was funny about the leaf = toaster. No, it's not a toaster; it's a lunch box. If that battery is bad, oh, the money pit that thing will be. As for the Taurus, my grandfather bought a red one in '96, and my aunt now has it as her daily driver back and forth to work. It has 450000 miles on it.
That's an exception to the rule.
@@davidanderson8469 all you have to do is take care of it and do the maintenance right.
Yep I'm teaching my kids to drive a stick shift. My husband taught me and now the kids are learning.
128k on a Jeep is like 800k on a non-chysler product. 😮😂
Your knowledge and info is really fun to watch! Quick thoughts, great edits, facts and figures! I still can't understand the auctioneers...wtf, hardest thing for me.😮
50 grand for a truck that’s crazy
My Truck was 50k back in 2015…but that got you literally the top tier version of the truck with basically all the bells and whistles…Now that same truck in just 8 years would cost me 80k+… Even considering the advancements in tech it’s insanity.
😂
Paid $54k for my 2021.2500HD brand new
And the big 3 are pumping out trucks at 50k or more, who is buying brand new trucks at 50k?
Biden’s America
Teach your children to drive a manual.
This should be a public service announcement.
Compare it to swimming. You might never want to get into water. But knowing how to swim can get you out.
Just make sure you have the money to fix the clutch if they don’t get it fast enough.
I learned on my grandfathers old tractor. Love driving a stick, I’d get one, but then the wife would be lost in my car.
Let um cry, or drown lol
Edit: jk
lol might as well teach them cursive while you’re at it. What disaster scenario do you have in your head where they’re going to need to drive a manual to get out of trouble? Most of the cars on the road today are auto. By the time they’re driving only a select few sports cars will be manual.
@@robw9728Zombie apocalypse, obviously! 😁
I wish I would have learned to drive a manual transmissions in college and high school. The vehicles could be replaced for under $10,000; at the time.
That black charger when he sold brand new was $26,000 because I bought one and traded in the 2018 for $19,000 trade-in and bought an 18 charger RT never buy another charger again
I got an incredible deal on a 2017 f150 lariat last week. Dealers are very negotiable. About 50% off of what it would've been last year. I've been patiently waiting and my patience paid off!
If you don’t mind what did you pay and how many miles?
Advantage of a Nissan leaf is you can jump start it from your iPhone 😂😂
Nissan Toast, one slice at a time.
😂
I love watchin your channel to get your insight on the car market and dealer aspect of stuff. Kind of like learning different things in the car world right now. For powertrain and rebuild & repairs I got my sources for knowledge there.
I've got a 2016 Mazda3 w/57k mi., 35 mpg & I love it! Bought it used from Hertz & got a good deal...about $2,500 less than dealers were asking. Don't drive much as I'm retired. This is a great channel. Was a car salesperson many years ago, but I learn a lot from you about used vehicles, auctions & the market. Thanks.
LMAO, subbed because of the Taurus. You my dude are truly the Real Deal! Such a breath of fresh air. Best of luck in all you do brother!
I appreciate that
All you had to do was ask me to subscribe..love your channel! You are extremely credible. Appreciate your honesty and practical experience in the business.
Thank you!!!
Your new mic works great! I didn't notice it until you said something. Great episode! Agree about stick shifts. Teach your family members how to operate, including the parking brake.
I feel the same about old Astro vans. Memories with my parents.
At 70, guys like me drove the market for 40 years......bought a new car ever 4 years from 1980 to 2016......haven't bought a car since ...most likely have my last car......news flash...people today aren't car people......Brandon has the model...COPY IT....his business model will work anywhere in the US today...Cheers Dude! (Oh, I had a new 1987 Dodge Caravan, it was one of the best vehicles I ever owned, 100k miles, no issues...changed oil and new tires at 40K)
Yes in this environment he does. The smart money is buying cash or new with apr incentive. That’ll change once rates drop below 5, so it’s back to HS kids and ppl wanting work beaters
Lol “people aren’t car people any more”… govt has regulated or inflated affordable vehicles out of existence
Miss those old caravans! Growing up, my step dad was a mechanic and we must have bought and sold a couple dozen of them. I actually learned how to drive a manual in a late 80's caravan while searching for fell trees for fire wood. I also remember getting arrested for taking one I thought was our one night when my uncle called it in stolen.
Funny you said that about manual transmissions, I saw a car with a sticker on the back window that was a picture of a shift diagram with the quote, "endangered species." I doubt many people got it.
Audio sounds good! Keep that Taurus love ❤️!
Thank you!
I love my Taurus! I have an '06 with over 255,000 miles, so far. I bought it when it was 5-years-old with 59,000 miles on the clock. The parts are cheap, and it's easy to fix. I've been able to afford premium parts for the price of janky parts on other cars. I'm lucky to live in the southwest, so rust is not an issue.
I have two manuals. Love them. Wanted to say I like that you put the price paid, year and model on screen now. I think u should keep it. ✌️🇺🇸. NC Rocks
I’m already seeing 2024 dodge products with under 1k miles on used car lots in my area.
Audio was spot on! Love the mic on the hat. Btw, THANK You for the reminder to subscribe. I watch your videos weekly and I checked, and I wasn't subscribed. Doh! I am now. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for showing the old Ford Van!! Love vintage vehicles!
Thanks for another great show
Thanks for watching!
I remembered them building the Astro vans near my home . I went to the plant many times...it was a good product for the Baltimore GM plant.
My 2015 subaru legacy has 421k miles.
This was the first video I've watched of yours. Really fun! Did you tell us if that Subaru sold and I missed it???
This is the only ond youll need to see. All of his videos are the same rehash
Great content! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I remember driving a Ford econoline van. ona date it had one seat for the driver and the date sat on the engine cover. What a time. Enjoy seeing how the prices are reacting in times.
@6:32 - Back in about 1984, my old man bought probably the 4th Chrysler mini van sold in our area. For weeks after, dad would give people demos in parking lots because no one had ever seen one up close before. Sometimes, if he was in a good mood, he would remove the back seat to the amazement of all.
Audio is great. No problem. Enjoyed the video, too.
Yay, thank you!
so happy for this the car prices are tanking
Love the auctions, thanks for taking us.
Glad you enjoyed
Thanks for the info
snowbirds are people who migrates from the colder northern parts of North America to warmer southern locales, typically during the winter.
This, they migrate in when winter hits, and migrate back north when winter is over like migratory birds. Just there temporarily during certain times.
The people are named after actual birds, larkspur I think, that are white and you see them on the roads in late fall in flocks as they head south.
Snownbirds here n PHX are people that fly south for the winter and go back north for summer. So basically those dealers are seasonal!
Sounds like such an odd concept. Too much overhead.
@@JimAllen-Persona Here most are retired n alot of them have campers or double wides as their snow bird home! I agree tho. Summers can be rough here but im not moving away for a couple months to avoid it. 🤣
Hey, you put together an good informative auto video. I’ll watch another of yours and subscribe.
The sound is perfect on that mic and doesn’t pick up any extra noise.
"Only goes 3 miles after you charge it" Sounds about right.
That Nissan EV has a bad battery. It’s 10 years old so the battery is shot. Replacement battery is very expensive. The car is only worth buying for $1,800 plus because of the low miles. The dealers have priced a battery and know it’s a big climb up the hill, so low price.
My grandpa had an Areostar too… total junk but great memories!
I had a 88 Aerostar AWD extended van. Bought it with a broken motor and replaced the motor with a junkyard unit. I drove it for years. I sold it to a guy for a work vehicle. The awd worked fantastic. I wish I had it back.
Love the auction videos. Your new sound equipment is great. Sound quality much improved.
Awesome, thank you!
My first vehicle was an 89 Ford Aerostar. It was my grandfathers work van. I redid the interior, repaired all mechanical issues, lowered it, put deep dish, American Racing 5 stars on it, and ran 2 lanzar 18s in it, with Rockford Phosgate power 650 amps bridged and Boston Aucustics mids and highs. It was painted flip flop purple. To this day people still talk about my van, lol.
Happy Monday Brandon 🌞🌟🤩
Same to you!
UK here - driven manuals most of my life, now got an auto and find it boring to drive.
I know the US has plenty of straight roads and can understand why autos rule and just put the cruise control on - and less tiring to drive long distances - been lucky enough to visit a few times over the years and have enjoyed driving the twisties in New England and the west side - Washington & Oregon - great roads & scenery.
Enjoying the content from across the pond.
Ride out the storm, Brandon! I hope your business flourishes.
I miss the buying and selling at the auction but the prices they are bringing there is no room left for a wholesaler! Miss it after 22 years in the business!
I was just given a 2002 Ford Taurus SES,Has 170,000 miles.Have all the service records, since new,Brand new transmission,2 years ago, rebuilt engine 3 years ago. New tires & Brakes all around, just 200 miles on them.Rides like a dream.
Saw you at CarEdge with the boys the other day and I subscribed to your channel. Thanks for all the content.
Awesome! Thank you!
Our '98 Taurus was crap. The cooling system kept clogging. Gave up on it.
I had a '97 Taurus it was a good car till it wasn't. When it finally went bad it seemed to go completely bad all at once. I should have gave up on it 5,000 miles sooner. I started to spend more than a new car payment would have been costing me. Good car till then though.
I enjoy your channel great videos of car content. I have realized, there are not many pick up trucks auctioned out as much.
that mic works fine. Also the manual transmission!!!!!! Love, love, loveit (I have one, an 06 Accord EX-L, I ain't NEVER selling that car)
Thanks for putting on the Mazda. Bought one used recently, I like it. P.S. the Ford Taurus was one of the toughest car made. Drove one in Illinois winters early 2000s, steady and reliable.
People sleep on the 2014+ Mazda vehicles. The top 3 most demand vehicles at the auctions... My lady has a 2013 Mazda CX5, and it now has 270k miles on it. "We be driving everywhere man..."
My first full time job had a '91 Ford Aerostar.
We had it as a parts van.
That model ford Taurus was probably the best car ford ever made. It had great gas mileage for a v6.
Saw you on Ray n Zach earlier..keep grinding, love your channel bro
Thank you! Will do!
I'm subbed and love the channel but one thing I'd really love when watching the cars you highlight is if you could share what you think dealers could sell these cars for when you see that mazda go for 9k what would it cost to actually buy it off a lot?
16+
Most dealers try to pad them between three and $5000 in that price range.
I remember driving 2 standard Aerostars that had standard 5 speeds in them. They were used as tow vehicles behind school busses and things like that. Gutless pos 3.0 V6
I have to call bull on engines and transmissions going longer than older car. I has a Subaru with 175km on it with a cracked piston that was 7 years old, i have right now a 2017 Ford escape 2.0 turbo, the transmission went at 130 km and now it is with me beck it also cracked a piston. Mazda CX9 turbo engines were blowing left and right and could pick them up cheap if you can fix them, if you take it to a garage the cost of the motor is worth more than the car
I had a 97 Taurus and it had that body style. I believe both the Taurus and Sable started in 96 with that turtle looking body style.
Us mechanics called them turds 💩 because they’re rounded on both ends😂
Cars in Pa are dropping, I can see it !
Great!
i had an Aerostar for work in the 90s... was the most uncomfortable van I ever drove
Haha
I only had to install business radios in them but they are trash and if someone got into a head-on they usually died.
And the stupid spring loaded A/C hose connectors of that era. About the most boneheaded contraptions Ford’s engineers ever came up with, rivaled only by them placing a plastic mid-ship fuel cell next to a blistering exhaust system on F/E chassis’s and then strapping a well lighted sauna box on top and wondering what could ever go wrong 👨🔧🧑🏼🚒🤷🏽🤷♀️🤷♂️
Excellent video and audio quality pssst the contents good too !!! lol thank you for the info !!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for words saying the make, model, year & price!
Thanks for the videos. In Florida , snowbird refers to people who migrate to Florida in the winter to avoid the snow season. Guess they’re saying those dealers only come at a certain season.
Probably looking for non rusty cars. Shipping them back up north.
These videos are like mini adventures
Haha
Me too I love old Survivor cars of all types of flavors, especially the simple things that are practical, and still useful to use like vans
Stopped by the VW dealer to buy some parts here in northern VA and it is packed with cars , the entrance has cars parked on both lanes. Surprisingly couple families were there checking on the monthly payment for a car.
So how much did the Subaru go for?
The audio is quite good. I think you're remembering a full size van, maybe a conversion van, like we had when our kids were young. You're probably about the same age as our kids.
The new mic definitely makes a difference. Just listen to the first of the video and then towards the end with the old mic. Thanks for showing us what the car market is like each week.
The van was probably a Econoline. That was the full-size Ford work vans. My father, who is the contractor had many of them in his fleet.
I drove one of those Aerostars in 1994-1996.Those were our GSA vehicles when I was in the Army in a remote unit. GSA was trying an experiment back then where they were trying to get more money back out of them later at auction so we wound up with XLT trims, very nice, vey comfortable, very good ride and all the toys of the time.
5:49 it was so funny listening to you compare that van to a Ford Aerostar. As i scream at my phone "it IS an Aerostar!!". Haha ..... "My grandfather had an Aerostar, it was the bigger version of this thing...." Haha
Good video brother, I liked that charger and Mazda
Sound quality is great. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great show keep up the amazing work be safe my friends God bless all
Taurus didn't change body style until 2000. My 99 still had the round headlights. Agree that it was a great car. No mechanical issues whatsoever, but it did end up rusting out. Rear fenders behind the wheels were notorious for rusting.
Also - love the channel.
I love the inside stories on how things run.
Ok Ford Tarus man I am going to subscribe. Srsly - appreciate the market info.
The old Ford Taurus SHO used to be a rocket, total sleeper for a sedan back in the day.
