- Car Dealer INVENTORY SPIKES: People Have STOPPED BUYING CARS!
In this video I interview a GM from a Nissan Dealership. He talks about what his dealership is dealing with right now and where he sees the car market going from here.
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.
Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave any comments you may have in the section below!

Hoping to buy frontier sometime this year I'm in SC
I live in Mooresville,NC about 35 minutes from that dealer. I was interested in a frontier so I’ll definitely get this place out.
The economy is in the toilet no thank to the 1 percent elite.
Yeah that's the Cool cat come from the back that makes you feel real comfortable real good and real special and then you end up buying the car
Great job, both of you.
Kudos to GM for not being afraid of open discussion.
It’s Nissan not GM ….l. I know I know you were saying general manager
@@Mr.Helper. By GM he means general manager, not General Motors.
Agreed. The dude was an awesome interviewee.
Duh he said that in his comment. Pay attention @havocsquad1
GM just caught using onstar to report your driving habits to your insurance company, helping them to raise rates.
I'm not a Nissan guy, but that GM has all of my respect with the way he is running that dealership.
I'm an old guy with too much wasted time, as I'm running out of time. I have watched you and your channel grow and 'I'm like a proud father for your accomplishments. Keep it real, keep it honest. Tip of The Hat to the crew that supports your efforts. Help those in need and say NO to greed. Sarge
Thanks! 😁

I'm old, too. And I'm glad I have a lovely rig from the Toyota family-a paid off V8 that runs like butter and almost certainly the last truck I'll ever own.
@malcommarson, The dealership said his profit is from service work. I don't think the dealer gets a pat on the back for stealing another way!

Stop simping for corps
This dealership should see an increase in sales after this video. Great marketing for them.
I normally only go Honda or Toyota, but these days the dealers in Cali are asking too much. I took my wife to our local Nissan dealer just to see what the price would be and I got a Sentra SR model under a lease 0 down with a monthly ($475) and if I wanted to buy I was going to get it under MSRP(24K) which they offered 21K. Since it is our first Nissan, if we like it at the end maybe we might buy it out.
There’s no reason all new car dealers can’t be open and honest and still be profitable.
Great interview. 👍🏻
I agree 😊

Great interview. Very thoughtful and candid general manager. Imagine the stress he and his co-workers are under these days. Give him credit for agreeing to do an interview like this. He just improved my image of Nissan substantially, notwithstanding Scotty Kilmer's recent comments. Maybe this GM can suggest that Nissan bring back the standard transmissions.
Heck yes to standard tranmissions! You can still get a 5speed in the base Versa. They need to put a standard back in Sentra, and especially the Frontier! I want them to, but also don't. I'd be way too tempted to get one even though I don't actually need it, and don't need to spend 40k on another truck. But man I'd probably have to scoop one up if it felt like it might be my last chance to get a new standard in that beautiful new Frontier.
Scotty approves of and RECOMENDS the Frontier in the background.
Well said
I think more of this mansas opposed to Nissan, after all it's not the car manufacturer, it's a privately owned dealership selling the Nissan brand.
No one will buy them, Honda barely is holding on to their niche trims with manuals.
GM sounds like an honest guy I would do business with. I know the streets
I’m pretty good at reading people. You can’t hustle a hustler
@@thystaff742 I was also once a Nissan/Buick salesman and grew up on the streets in my younger years
All salesmen sound like honest guys. You have to actually read the numbers and look at the meaning behind their actions/words to see the lies.
@@thystaff742 That's a no-brainer. But all salesmen are not created equal. I'm in technical sales and bring a great deal of value to the customer with service to build lasting relationships. Good salesmen do that and value you as a customer.
Anyone who owns a small business, would love to have this gentleman as their GM.
A small business doesn’t have a Gm
Speak for yourself. You would want a manager that has solutions, not one that just points out the obvious problems. Is this dude old enough to have even experienced any downturns? Seems like a whiner, not a problem solver.
Great interview. The car market is completely broken. Manufacturers (and some dealers) really need to wake up.
Some...hell i'd say a majority of them need to come back to reality if they want to stay in business lol.
Not broken. Free market at its best
@@user-df2mn5bx2qNot a free market if lenders are offering 140% loans again. Banks of the past wouldn't cut their own throats like that, but today they'll do it because they know there's always a taxpayer bailout around the corner. Uh huh
@@user-df2mn5bx2q Absolutely NOTHING about the last 4 years says "free market".
Absolutely love that format of interviewing professionals in the business, the GM was not only very professional but extremely knowledgeable about the industry and was completely direct and honest in his responses ,a job well done and and huge positive reflection on his profession and that dealership👏👏👏
Absolutely. I'm far more likely to buy a car from a dealership that is reasonably honest. I'll drive a ways to do so.
@@rvail136same here.
This GM is an honest stand up guy. This is the guy to do business with.
a long time ago my dad sold cars at a dealership. The salesmen would rotate, when possible, car buyers approached. Nobody wanted to help an old black rough looking man. My dad said i got him. he paid cash for a Cadillac and gave my dad a gallon of moon shine. Never go by looks.
Your dad sounds like a quality guy. How was his moonshine?
@@marklalli6038 Nobody bought a meal in my dad's presence that knew him. He paid. My little league baseball team finally won a game. He took us all to Mc Donalds after he borrowed money from their parents. i miss him. i guess the moon shine was OK. He lived thru that.
I'm that old black "rough looking" man. I once had a sales guy acting like I was wasting his time (full disclosure, he was black also). I test drove and liked the car but hated the sales guy. Went home, called the dealership and set up a test drive with a different salesman. Bought my new Toyota Land Cruiser from him right after that test drive. I am aware that they most likely split the commission, but no way was I buying from the first guy.
@@ld4974 That is right, just deal with nice people:)
The Nitrogen needs to stop. Just stop it dealerships.
Agreed 👍
@dixienormus1619not to mention the air is over 78% nitrogen lol. That Sentra won’t benefit from that lol. I’ll use nitrogen in my motorcycle tires but it’s free at Costco
Nitrogen is for NASCAR where tire pressure is measured by the tenth of a pound. Complete waste for daily drivers.
It stops when you say take it off or I walk… Then walk
The whole nitrogen thing originated in F1. One team started doing it, so they all did. Even if it gave absolutely no advantage, the cost of filling up tyres with nitrogen is so miniscule relative to the cost of an F1 car, it was still worth doing.
Used to be a common thing for road cars in the UK until a consumer rights programme did an exposé on it and showed that using nitrogen had no benefit, and that the workshops were just upselling snake oil. It quite quickly disappeared after that.
Unless you have or know someone that has a private dealer license, you won't find much. Way too much greed in the world....
Greed from the OEM all the way down to the dealerships and the game is pretty well fixed to always be that way.
Stop buying the CRAP.
It's not greed. Joe biden printed trillions of dollars. The value of money has become less. It's the same cost for everything just our dollar strength has dropped.
Yeah, and it starts with the UNIONS. The unions have priced me out of buying their product. That's okay, I charge 'em more for my services now.
Greed? Lol It's pretty simple. Stop buying. No one is forcing you to buy.
wrong broke boy. I can see those used cars under $20k and new cars under $60k. Where are you at? Looking for that $300/month 2025 suburban? lolol
I remember talking to a Toyota finance manager one time, and he told me, "Buy a Toyota, pay it off, and drive it until the wheels fall off."
2007 FJ 285k miles.
Yep! Drive two 13 year old Toyotas, paid off and have owed 8.5 years. Super cheap to maintain, very reliable.
Or it gets recalled
@qroadside All manufacturers have recalls. The difference between Toyota and others like Ford, GM, and Stellantis is that Toyota has FAR less.

This guy's honesty is refreshing... if I was going to buy a new car especially one for $20,000 I would go to his dealership he's a straight shooter...
We have money but hate the dealer experience. You gotta make the buying experience easier and less stressful to attract newer genrations.
Agreed, I'm about to buy a new car (with cash) and I dread going to a dealership.
All I want to do is fill out a form online with my desired car specs and get the car without all the up-selling BS.
We bought a 2018 Subaru XV (CrossTrek) thought a buyers agent here in Australia. Look up [Autoexpert] UA-cam channel. Hopefully there are similar services in the US. It works like this. They work with a fleet buying company who negotiates on your behalf. You tell them the make, model, colour, trim ect and your address. They ask any dealer in the country and update you over about a 2week period on the offers. It’s like having an industry veteran negotiator in your corner. We got a seriously good deal. Once you accept an offer, you go to the dealership with a bank check, they give you the car and walk out with rock bottom price and no BS. The dealership pays them a small fee for handing them a sale. Watch his videos, it will inform you of a lot of tricks. Knowledge is power! Best of luck!
My latest hobby: making new car salesmen cry. They call when I enquire on a used vehicle and try to talk about 2023's.
@Mr_Spock512 Right now, only Tesla and Carmax let you buy like that. Carmax is used only, of course. Actually, there’s a new and used car dealership group in the Washington, DC area (Fitzgerald) that sort of does it, too, though I don’t know how competitive they are with pricing, and there’s also the matter of getting it to your home.
@@EMichaelBall Interesting, thanks ... but I want nothing to do with EV's and I live in Canada so buying from Washington is a no go for me.

Here in Canada (maybe same in USA?), it's also that vehicle insurance rates, particularly on new vehicles, have absolutely skyrocketed and gone crazy, adding to how unaffordable new cars are.
Same here in the US.
Insurance is theft

Other GM's need to watch this, oh and we need more dealerships run by folks like this guy.
Props to this guy being so open.
As someone who would like to purchase a new vehicle, it is not going to happen until there is a massive market correction. Prices are completely out of control. Bought a brand new car for 14k in 2010. Now market equivalent is 40k. Get out of here.
Check out the Buick Envista and Chevrolet Trax 23-25,000
That's about right. I think because of all these new safety features and navigation and infotainment in today's vehicles has driven up prices ...but for the most part it's just greed.
@@lgee9027Trax may be the worst American car and the best American cars suck

21k is not cheap for a Versa. We are looking to replace our 15 year old Toyota RAV4, have the means to do it without financing but WILL NOT BUDGE until the market corrects. People went crazy with all the borrowing of cheap money that they grossly overpaid for a lot more than just vehicles. We can drive that Toyota for several more years if we have to... Deflation is going to be very painful. What's coming is ugly.
You current car is repairable, so you can keep it as long as you want. I think that there will be no deflation.
@@vlado3304friend of mine has a 2008 Rav 4. It’s still going strong with 250k, but it’s getting really structurally rusty
I don't see deflation in our future. Prices and wages have moved up and are unlikely to move down. Back in the 1960s I bought a very nice three bedroom house, full basement, two car garage, quarter acre lot for $21k. And a brand new sports car for just over $3k. I was making $12k per year (IIRC). We aren't returning to those sorts of numbers short of a total collapse and reboot.
It’s not cheap but it’s not bad.

My local Toyota dealership sold out. Ive done business with them for years( buying & service) was a loyal customer. (New owner)Went to get a 30k service, they gave me 3 options most expensive was $650 least expensive being $280. Im done with this dealership. This interview should be shown to every dealership GM in the retail automotive business. J.J. is probably the most straightforward, no bullshit GM’s I’ve ever heard. His Dealer Principal should be praised for letting him be so candid and explaining the industry and how things work these days. Excellent interview Brandon!! 👍 .. love the channel
It’s so refreshing to see an authentic dialogue!
The owner of this dealership truly has a gem in his GM J.J.
You can quickly understand why this man has sales people and staff that have worked WITH him for 2 decades. He understands people’s preconceived notions about dealerships and all the profit driven antics (like the nitrogen) that have been thrown at consumers over the years. If I become in the market for a Nissan, this dealership is worth the trip!
I like this GM’s view of how a dealership should work … the long term view of his business … I’ve got one that I’ve bought multiple cars from with the same sales person … and it’s great to see the same service person over the years too …
I bought a house today.. I have completely given up on the idea of getting a truck, for the forseeable future
Same here. Can't afford those payments on top of mortgage and everything else life throws at us. Sadly by the time my house is paid off trucks will probably increase in price another $20k or more
I got rid of my trucks 15 years ago don’t miss them after you pay the extra fuel maintenance and insurance on top of the higher purchase cost you can easily rent a truck when you need one from uhaul and come out way ahead . In fact you can buy an airplane for less money .

You're watching the hollowing out of the midrange car market. It's $30K to field a 'safe' rolling chassis. How many people will go w/o AC?
The most important thing is not the monthly payment. The important thing is what the out the door payment is. In my opinion super stupid to ask for a monthly payment. I would NEVER even buy a car at MSRP. i HAVE always paid under MSR P and would never ever even pay MSRP.
Last year I was interested in the new Hyundai Kona. The salesman told me that the price on Autotrader was only if I bought on finance and that it would be more if I paid cash ! I ended up buying a used VW elsewhere and was pleased that that salesman didn't mention finance once.
The man is doing what he can to help his business. Talking to UA-camrs is proof of that.

The other day I was looking at a new Ram 2500 series Laramie 4 door short bed 4x4 with a Cummins diesel engine. This appears to be middle of the road trim level on their website. Hopefully, you’ll be able to interview other GMs of other car dealerships in the near future. Keep up the the Great work on your UA-cam!
Nissan is famous for their crappy Jatco CVT transmissions that last about 50k miles. The only vehicles that Nisson sells that don't suck arse are the Frontiers,Titans and Armadas.
Good interview. I appreciate the GM's openness. Car makers are trying to beat people down over time making them think paying MSRP is a good deal. If they sell you a car/truck without a market adjustment, that's considered winning. It's not. MSRP plus a 7-8% interest rate is a non-starter. The industry needs to crash and come back smarter and more in tune with the consumer.
That GM comes across as a truly solid human being and someone that a person can trust. He has just sold a lot more Nissans for that dealership.

What's really going to break car sales is that not only is there no current demand at this point, but dealers aren't going to want people's trades either as they are way upside down on their current loans and banks aren't even going to be able to cover the negative equity with a 125% LTV on the new car to get it our the door.

@@drewski1441their rwd based vehicles are pretty solid
My wife and I have been driving new Nissan’s since March 1986. Never took one back to dealership and never been broke down on side of road. And that’s after driving them to over 150,000 miles before trade in. How could you possibly be anymore solid than that?
@@the1bulldurham I mean 150k isn't anything too crazy. Its not nothing but nothing crazy either
Nissan’s have great engines it just the cvt transmissions that’s their downfall.
damn I was not expecting this kind of quality and effort. You are doing great! All you need to do now is make sure to get a "1500 off CQA" sticker on the windshield of that red truck :) and some branding on your clothes to compete with that GM. Put your name on your sleeve or hat that stands out and makes you noticable, because the GM's Mynatt looks clean thanks to your good cameras.
Wow. 30 minutes of real time, informative, frank discussion with absolutely no notes. You were both well prepared. Great job!
We have been looking for an 8 passenger vehicle. One was the Nissan Armada. Even used with low miles, they cost way too much with interest rates. We are debt free and will not put an 800 dollar a month payment on our family. Prices have to come way down or interest rates. My 2017 F150, which looks brand new and runs new, I bought off the showroom floor. My interest rate was 3%, and payments were lower than most cars nowadays. But like I have said, this is all by design. They want to price out everyone but the rich.
They just want to make money, not to provide cars to everyone.
if your thing is being "debt free" then why do you care about interest rates? just buy a car for cash. plenty of cars your size for under $40k.
@@ssl3546 because I like buying new or almost new. I keep my cars for a long period of time.
Great GM!!! So refreshing to see and hear this fellow in this day age. Not everyone has jumped on the Greed Wagon.
What a great interview! Well done. I can't wait for you to take him to auction 😂
You need to get a meeting like this at least once a month for your channel! This is very helpful and informative!!
Part of the problem.. Is Crap products that do no last over time. ... An we the people understand that and won't buy products that are going to fail us or increase the cost over time.
