dammit, I was waiting for it to convey "we're done now" by closing the pad at the end. CGP Grey found the most impressive way to make me stick till the very end. Well played.
I picked one up a few weeks ago, and I find it incredibly useful as a teacher. I am constantly overloaded with notes and prefer to batch uploads into Todoist, which this works fabulously for!
But... laptops and regular notebooks can already do that... I understand this video is an advertisement but that selling point was kind of asinine. The notebook looks cool though.
I have to admit, this is the first time an advertisement longer than 20 seconds has held my attention long enough to sit through the whole thing. Well done.
I’m excited to pick up one of these for my next college semester! I’m also fascinated by how much care went into both this and the Theme journals; not sweating details like the tearing of paper is a nice touch and goes to show the effort in little books of paper that can do so much!
I can speak to the quality of these notebooks. The covers are thick and rugged, and the pages are super smooth to write on. The only complaint would be that sometimes the covers on the normal notebooks are *too* sturdy and can be a pain when not writing in the middle of the book. That's going to be a problem with any bound book though.
I own one of these. I don’t use it often but I like having it sitting on my desk because sometimes you just need to jot a note and paper makes much more sense than opening a notes app. (Yes any old cheap notebook would serve but this one really is very nice.)
Own one of these despite not writing a lot of notes - wanted to support Grey and Cortex. Looks very nice and professional on the desk. The to do list is by far my favorite part of it. Grey speaks the truth about the dots for doodles. They're so alluring.
Strange as this may sound, these days it's kind of a selling point to say "it doesn't require charging." Also, "no boot-up time" and "it doesn't require a password." All reasons I have been using a white board in my home for years.
I will never give up notebooks. I like fountain pens and I like quality notebooks. My meeting notes will first go to a notebook and only then will I transfer them into some digital format. Writing things physically is much more thought-provoking, I feel like I'm actually thinking of the sentence that I'm writing down. I need to filter my thoughts pre-write. Doing just a random typing into an email/onenote/whatever, I have the option to just delete immediately all and write again. And that's not always good. Often it's better to have that filter before you write. But, alas, no shipping to EU option?
I don't like writing on paper. My handwriting is fine and all, but my hand gets tired... very fast. For typers like me, I really recommend Obsidian as a place to store loose thoughts. For the"where does this thought belong" thing, I usually just start a new note, and begin typing. (Yes, I have to think of a title.) I'll come back and sort these every few months. Also, you actually don't have to pay Obsidian any money. There's no membership required, and it syncs for free via iCloud. I like that business model.
Did I click on and watch a four minute advert just because it’s you, and come away deciding I may need a special notepad for my desk? Yes. Yes I did. Surprising use of your style and brand, but highly effective.
You basically expressed out loud the idea that no one is willing to admit: People take notes to give the impression that they pay attention rather than for remembering what is said.

Love that you guys are experimenting with different products. I’ve always wanted to try the notebook but I didn’t think it would fit my workflow. Definitely gonna give this one a try!
You see, it is possible to have ads that are not only watchable, but enjoyable. Every website and advertiser ever has just chosen quantity over quality, except for those few who get it right.
Is there any kind of discount if i wanted to purchase this in bulk? (i have a team of engineers for whom I'd love to get these as a holiday gift) definitely going to pick one up for myself or at least strongly hint that it's a great stocking stuffer to my SO 😅
As someone with ADHD, presenting predominantly in severe executive memory issues - This is a godsend above an array of Post-It notes aligned across my monitor.
i just got the theme journal… well, didn’t get it…put it on my christmas wishlist and strongly hinted that if you got one thing off that list, it should be the theme journal. maybe i’ll have to get this too.
I'm getting one each for my brother and his wife, who both work in big tech and can probably use them! I wish I had a use for it myself, but my lifestyle doesn't really call for it, so I'll stick with the Theme System Journal for me and hope that my family finds their gifts super useful.
In this day and age, having a physical pad with a writing implement beats the heck out of opening some note app, notepad, Word, etc. It's about being able to quickly put something to permanent record - a license plate number, a date, or whatever before you forget it.
Myke, the co-founder of Cortex, and primary designer of this, is left-handed. If handedness was a concern, it would have been addressed in the design phase.
As someone who's watched and loved the cortex episode about this notepad, maybe worth it to put a link to it? It really helped sell me on it and helped me use it once I did get it
oh hey, i already have tons of paper notes in between my monitor and keyboard that i write everything in and they are super hlepful certainly considering getting this
2:48 as a former government employee, this part right here is such an underutilized benefit of having physical notebooks in meetings. When you see out of the corner of your eye people closing their notebooks, that's when you also close yours and signal it's time to leave. Having a phone or laptop out doesn't carry the same weight
Oh man, that thing is smart smart and elegant. I'm ordering. I'm proud of you man, using technology to create really damned good stuff and making peoples life better and what's important - without IT. You are amazing, thank you ❤
The fact that i watched most of this, despite the fact that i would never use it (unless i truly focus on my writing it's almost unreadable), speaks volumes of how great this ad is.
How did I just voluntarily watch a 4 minute advertisement and come away thinking it was good content
dissapointed by the lack of hexagons despite the scientific evidence of their Bestagon nature
dammit, I was waiting for it to convey "we're done now" by closing the pad at the end.
CGP Grey found the most impressive way to make me stick till the very end. Well played.
The steady transition to stationary company is both intriguing and satisfying.
As far as ads go, not a bad presentation.
This is it. Grey is on his way to making his own work-shirts soon...
Is the paper fountain pen friendly?
Question asked, question answered.
Someone used a Sailor Pro Gear on this. I'm convinced.
Knowing Myke, it better be
Yes, he says it is in the video.
3:20
Yeah

I willingly clicked on, watched, and enjoyed a 4 minute ad. Take note, UA-cam.
how do you correct spelling mistakes on these? I keep right clicking on them but nothing comes up. also does it gets regular software updates?
I picked one up a few weeks ago, and I find it incredibly useful as a teacher. I am constantly overloaded with notes and prefer to batch uploads into Todoist, which this works fabulously for!
I love the idea that closing the cover lets people know "This meeting is over"
I’ve had coworkers and acquaintances that wouldn’t get the hint from this. 😏
But... laptops and regular notebooks can already do that... I understand this video is an advertisement but that selling point was kind of asinine. The notebook looks cool though.

You'll need more than 1 for a whole semester!

0:32 I love this depiction of what computers are like. It’s like you’re lost in a nigh-infinite imaginary universe

Digital Grey advocating for an analog method is blowing my mind.
I am not familiar with tri-state checklists. Can somebody give me a hand? Thank you!
sometimes, ancient problems really do require ancient solutions
I kinda wish I had a need for this, it does look so nice

I admit that I rewinded to hear the satisfying clean tear again
It’s at 3:33

as someone who struggled using a laptop during lectures, I might need this for the next semester

Finally! A dotted notebook with clear task management on the side.
And sleek as well!
Just purchased the sidekick and can hardly wait for its arrival!

Mine just arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward to start using it tomorrow.
How many doublings of the pad are needed to contain the observable universe?
I like how we are slowly drifting back into an analog way of life.

You’re the only person who can get me to buy paper online grey so congratulations on that weird achievement
I love this thing, had one for a year and use it often. Best way to capture things
Glad to see that this has made it to the main CGP Grey channel! I've been following along the whole process over on Cortex. Such a great notepad!
dots are amazing and I can't understand why they aren't more common
We've evolved to notebooks again.
Love that you guys are experimenting with different products. I’ve always wanted to try the notebook but I didn’t think it would fit my workflow. Definitely gonna give this one a try!

It looks weird with you writing with the right hand 😉 when is the left handed version back? 🃏

0:30 Poor Leslie....
Love Myke-bot @ 1:12, is this new or has it showed up before on the Cortex animations?? -- and the printer-bots as well!
i just got the theme journal… well, didn’t get it…put it on my christmas wishlist and strongly hinted that if you got one thing off that list, it should be the theme journal. maybe i’ll have to get this too.
Dotted paper is THE BEST
I'm getting one each for my brother and his wife, who both work in big tech and can probably use them! I wish I had a use for it myself, but my lifestyle doesn't really call for it, so I'll stick with the Theme System Journal for me and hope that my family finds their gifts super useful.
We can always count on Grey to deliver us the alliterations.
I hadn't even finished watching before I ordered this for my Dad. As he is a man of many meetings, squared dots and fountain ink reliable paper.
Great design! Gave these a shoutout on The Awesomer today.
Now all I need is to find a job that fits this notepad and I have a reason to get one!
Wow, I didn’t even know this video existed until 13 days after it’s published.
The design itself looks very neat, simple and appealing.
This looks helpful for when I play factorio
I already have something similar in my desktop and i can say that is REALLY very usefull
Just in time for Christmas 🎉
I need this NOW
My parents had something like this back in the day! But it wasn't meant to be taken with you. It just lived under our pc's keyboard permanently.
Note toself add this to my wish list

1:12 omg myke bot 🤖
I love mine! Will definitely be getting more
Will you make a left handed version?

Sidekick notepad, sure. But what about the psychic notepad?
oh hey, i already have tons of paper notes in between my monitor and keyboard that i write everything in and they are super hlepful
certainly considering getting this
Why are they having a meeting in Montréal Airport boarding area ? 😅
If only ads were this good, UA-cam wouldn’t need premium
I really love this. I would 100% get this if i didn't have a digital tablet. Great work Grey!
The sidekick notepad really is that great, been using it since it came out and I’m really happy with it!!
I'll make note of this on my... wait a minute, where's my notebook?
Something something psychic notepad something something.
The clean tear sold it for me 👍
icbm launch codes have been written on this paper
Looking good!
I finally know what those weird blocks of dots in my school Notebook are for.
Also this looks pretty cool!
This might be perfect for university benches where I can never manage to fit both my laptop and a notebook
Dude I need this
Robot Myke was a nice touch
FINALLY! Paper that is pre-made ready for the Line Game! #DotLife
Got two for my sister and her boyfriend. They’ll love it!
Wow. So simple. So elegant. So something I'm spending my money on.
That's a nice notebook introduction. I actually want it now.
Oh damn, just being a left hand friendly, landscape fliptop pad is amazing.
The virgin Note taking app
vs
The chad paper and pen
will this psychic notepad allow me to read the thoughts of others?
I wish more Advertisements were this calm
This is great! Good work Grey.

Does it come in left-handed?
I love merch that is an extension of a UA-camrs content so much more than just a t shirt or smth.
Oh man, that thing is smart smart and elegant. I'm ordering.
I'm proud of you man, using technology to create really damned good stuff and making peoples life better and what's important - without IT. You are amazing, thank you ❤
Poor Leslie...

I have a stack of index cards by my computer just for this...and organizing it is a bit of a bitch. This works so much better. Ordering one now.
Dot life convert here as well
Best.
Myke robots are cute
I'm all for #dotlife
