Interesting concept. I've never cared for the traditional twist locks and prefer the lever locks. My concern with this one would be that the lock/unlock mechanism is at the foot of the tripod. This would seem to make it a bit more susceptible to getting water or dirt in it, depending on where the tripod is used. Still, it's fascinating to see what different things they can come up with to improve existing designs.

also you presumably need to go right to the ground to adjust it.

Just thinking about those clicks & twists today & happened upon Sirui’s new to market “SVM Rapid System One-Step Height Adjustment Modular Monopod”. I’m going to try switching it in to replace my walkabout tripod.

Super curious what you think about it. Haven’t tried that one yet.

Those locks often break. Garden tools have twist locks. The parts look a bit thin. If you drop it (eventually) they will crack.

Boo! Hopefully it lasts as long as need it for these projects.

Looks like a good super cheap/portable option. I still think the Smallrig Freeblazer tripod is going to be the budget king for video.

I just picked up the Manfrotto 635, haven’t used the Freeblazer yet. I’ll check it out!

Hi, I shoot a lot of vertical content. I was wondering if this tripod head can tilt 90 degrees? I can't seem to find any info on this. Cheers.

good question. The TP61 factory camera head cannot tilt sideways for vertical shooting. It will tilt forward or backward used in typical video, but not sideways sadly. Since I use the manfrotto quick detach system I picked up an MH496-BH for around $60 used on eBay, but I don't know if that's your preferred mount.

@@charlesn Thanks for the reply. I'm using the DJI ronin gimbal plate so that I can quickly attach to my gimbal when needed. I'm trying to find a lightweight tripod with a fluid head, 90 degree tilt functionality and an attach system that supports that DJI plate. Been a tricky journey so far.

    Updates on the tripod?

It still works as advertised, no weirdness yet. It is still great for UA-cam work, getting a camera up quickly, but I picked up a few more that I'm using for heavier cameras I'll share in another video shortly.

So, when you need to adjust a length of the one leg or 2, with the camera attached, you have to go very down to do this? how about not ideal weather conditions?

You are correct, but it’s preferred to me over clicking each segment. For lighter cameras this isn’t as much of an issue. If you have a heavier camera then the Manfrotto 635 Fast would be your better option.

I cannot unsee the fact that you're reading from a teleprompter 😄, as for the tripod design, velbon was one of the first, if not the first to do the design, and it's been around for many years. Not that popular because they can collapse if youre not careful, where conventional require very little pressure to keep in place. I'm a fan of this style, but it's a big disclaimer for those interested.

Caught me! Totally read from a teleprompter to help with explain more quickly my points. Thanks for the info about Velbon. I’ll check them out.
