Some things I like about the re-release: - Prince Caspar. Period. He actually LOOKS like a prince now instead of just like.. a dude with a suit. - The color of the compact. I'm a sucker for purple. - The extra details, like the shapes in the cobblestone or the light up candles around the throne. - The shade of gold they use. This is subjective though. I personally like really rich golds over more antique golds. - The color of the lights. They're both really pretty. Dark sky with white stars and moon is classic, but there's something really enchanting about a dark sky with gold stars and moon. Things that aren't great: - The denting and scuffs on the compact. Like... really? Right out of the package? Modern Mattel quality strikes again. - That auto shut off is waaaay too quick in my opinion - It seems overly... "girl-ified" if that makes sense. There's so much pink and hearts and unicorns. The old one felt like it came right out of a story book. It feels more... accessible, I guess? This could very well just be me though. I tend to be hyper aware of how toys are designed around gender stereotypes. Overall the re-release is mostly positive. Hopefully Mattel can keep up the quality, but I'm always skeptical with them.
I agree with all your comments! I am totally an antique gold fan, but I agree that's so subjective. I was surprised that right out of the box it was scuffed and had denting where I presume the plastic is heated/welded together. And 100% re: the "girl-ified" ... The unicorn was unnecessary. I get that unicorns are all the rage, but that part of the update didn't make sense to me. The knight armour really made it feel like you were transported into a fairytale (and also reminded me of Disney's Haunted Mansion ride?) My favourite part, by far, is the Prince Caspar update. Such a good update. I feel like he's supposed to be "Prince" (the artist formerly known as...)
I think I like the blue/gray castle in the old one better, but overall I'm happy with the repro. Love the purple compact. Mine is supposed to arrive this weekend!
I think they changed the colors of the compact to be more warm-toned because the lights are much more warm-toned than the original. This would explain the difference in the color of the castle and the stairs. Mattel probably wanted it to be more marketable towards kids today which explains the unicorns and prince Casper's skin tone change.
Non-collector just here for the nostalgia - so happy I stumbled on your channel Holly, these videos are so good - your energy is so lovely and the way you describe things is just amazing. Thank you!
First i want to say: I really love it, that they are putting the effort in, to remake the old ones. But: I still love the old ones better. The lights are brighter and overall, the old ones have more depth in design und looks like more quality than the new ones.
Hi! Fab video, thank you! Please may you tell me if the old Polly will fit into the holes in the new castle? I'm going to buy one, but I really want my old figures to be able to live in it too!
I like the idea that they rereleas and remaster some of the sets, but I think they rush things for cash grab..I mean they don't pay attention to detail that much..I really hope Polly Pockets we'll have many more sets like this or remaster the pollyvillage
I think the best part was the lights in the new one, it just had a beautiful glow, but the thing is that there was a unicorn door, like why would there be a unicorn when the concept of the compact is castles.. I have a relative that i showed my modern polly pocket collection to, and he loved it, i just wish that mattel can make the remakes more for all genders than just for the girls.
I just had to order it when I saw the video go up! I assume there are going to be more in the collection? I love the purple and glitter effect, I love the prince and the lights as well as the logo. Looks like they have gone for fantasy castle over more realistic because it's in the clouds and the unicorns. I would have preferred the original grey with the purple compact as I think that would look amazing, though I guess they wanted to reference that the original was pink. My Polly has an eyebrow joined to her eye 😞
I'm sad that they are coming with those bubbles on it. Wish they did better production of it, but I do want to buy it soon. I love that it's a purple compact and the lights are better but that button was a bad idea. I still prefer the colors of the original. The new one is so pink reminds me of a bouncy castle. I also like the new dolls more based on their outfits. I definitely would mix and match these two to make my perfect compact lol
the vintage is much okay , since it was the original but i guess the remake is just cool i already purchased one to be arrived this december i love about this remake is its lights are blinking very dim perfect during night and also the shooting star design that the vintage doesn't have it. also i love that it was bigger than the vintage and the battery area was very secured in a screw type compartment not unlike the vintage the battery is just beneath inside the compact . and the remake what makes it beautiful is that in the middle chair are the lights are blinking too unlike the vintage it does not light up also in remake there is just a light shadow on mirror area that the vintage one does not have. so over all vintage is ok since its vintage but overall the remake is really cool and surely collector must have.
I just ordered mine today! It's supposed to arrive in about a month. Seems to be on backorder. I'm glad to have an opportunity to get a brand new one, even if it is a little different. I don't have any childhood nostalgia for Polly because I was already "grown up" when they were originally available. I became interested in compact toys as an adult doll collector because of Shoppies Secrets compacts. I'm guessing they may have changed the suit of knight's armor because armor has a relation to battle. Plus unicorns are so popular these day. Thanks for the nice review!
I am sad to say that I agree, the reason they changed the suit of armor is probably because it is related to battle. This is really annoying to me because little girls love fantasy tales, and fantasy tales most certainly have battles, danger, and knights in them. Children are aware of these things. I also hope they didn't change it because "boy = battle" and "girl = unicorn," that would be even sadder.
Well I feel like a color combination of the new version seems like a real children’s toys. hot pink and vivid purple for 5-8 yrs lol 23:44 the vintage version gives me a vibe like it just popped out of a fairytale book but as I said the new version looks like a cheap wonky children toy 🥲
just i notice that the plastic quality of dolls is not as good as the vintage also the colors but that what makes it unique from the vintage they make it like that as they say they did not make a set that is 100% okay over all so that they can still make another one and improve it.
Why wouldn't they make it as bright as the original?? 😓 That lost my interest right there. The lighting is what makes it magical. I dont like the heart shaped gazebo and the shapes on the cobblestone
If you bought 2 of them why don't you just try to rip it out of the Box without breaking it you have 2 of them right so just open one of them without saving the Box why do you try to save the Box if you have 2 of them

I agree. The hearts everywhere seems unnecessarily twee.
I think I like the blue/gray castle in the old one better, but overall I'm happy with the repro. Love the purple compact. Mine is supposed to arrive this weekend!
It's so lovely, I think you'll really like it!
On the new one they made it look like the castle was on a cloud instead of on the ground! 😯
GOOD CATCH! I didn't recognize that but I totally see it now. Sky palace! Okay, maybe I'll accept the unicorn.
Just came here to say this too! The changes to the suit of armour and horse are to create a unicorn cloud kingdom!
I think they changed the colors of the compact to be more warm-toned because the lights are much more warm-toned than the original. Great thoughts, all definite possibilities!
Okay I definitely see a twinkling in the new one!
Non-collector just here for the nostalgia - so happy I stumbled on your channel Holly, these videos are so good - your energy is so lovely and the way you describe things is just amazing. Thank you!
I much prefer the original. Could that be my nostalgia talking? Maybe. But the quality just seems better with the original.
I am generally biased by nostalgia, so I hear you!
First i want to say: I really love it, that they are putting the effort in, to remake the old ones. But: I still love the old ones better. The lights are brighter and overall, the old ones have more depth in design und looks like more quality than the new ones.
So beautiful packaged! I am receiving mine tomorrow but since I am so excited 😆 I had to experience this unboxing firsthand before unboxing mine!
I didn’t even know this was coming out, I ordered mines and can’t wait to get it
Hi! Fab video, thank you! Please may you tell me if the old Polly will fit into the holes in the new castle? I'm going to buy one, but I really want my old figures to be able to live in it too!
Both are so beautiful! Though I love the gazebo in the original one.
I like the idea that they rereleas and remaster some of the sets, but I think they rush things for cash grab..I mean they don't pay attention to detail that much..I really hope Polly Pockets we'll have many more sets like this or remaster the pollyvillage
I would LOVE some new Pollyville re-issues! The 2006 ones weren't that great.
I have the original and now I want this one too!
I think the best part was the lights in the new one, it just had a beautiful glow, but the thing is that there was a unicorn door, like why would there be a unicorn when the concept of the compact is castles.. It's really sad and vaguely misogynistic that they might have assumed something like "suits of armor are scary and thus ONLY for boys"
I love it! I have the original one and I will be ordering this one 😊
I just had to order it when I saw the video go up! I assume there are going to be more in the collection?

Oh no! Definitely not the best paint quality on the figures in this remake, that's for sure.

Totally agree! Has yours arrived, now?
Such a well done video. Couldn’t expect less from a fellow Canadian! 👍🏽
Thank you 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

I also am a latecomer to Polly and started off with Shoppies

I just noticed at 30:00 the redesigns lights fades in and out a bit especially at the gazebo
Commenting for engagement. Going to watch it now ❤️
You're the best! Hope you enjoyed it!
Prince Geoffrey i believe
just i notice that the plastic quality of dolls is not as good as the vintage also the colors but that what makes it unique from the vintage they make it like that as they say they did not make a set that is 100% okay over all so that they can still make another one and improve it.

I'm pretty disappointed.I don't like the pink, and I really don't like that the castle is floating on clouds.😢
you
I don’t like the colors used in the new one. And the paint on the new pollys. Feels like they look like baby toys
