- The long-awaited Polly Pocket Starlight Castle Keepsake Collection is finally in my hands! So many of us wondered if this was a legit set by Mattel, and thank goodness it is. It's a reboot of the 1992 Starlight Castle set and it is SO gorgeous. It has the same visuals and beautiful lights, but with a more vibrant fantasy aesthetic.

This is what we've wanted! 💗 i love that's its a bit different from the original and the box is perfect for display.
Love the different vision but I do wish it was more sturdy like the vintage one, and wish the lights stayed on.

Another difference I noticed was that they made the unicorn out of the same rubbery plastic as the carriage. The original horse was made from a plastic like Polly. I miss the suit of armor door, but I do like that the door opens all the way in the new one because there’s no suit of armor getting in the way.
The plastic definitely feels cheaper. But I love these keepsake sets.

I was a huge Polly Pocket fan when I was little. I had a couple of sets including this one. I think all my toys were sold when I moved countries and I was so sad that my family never kept the castle 😢 I want to buy a vintage castle so I can keep it on display.

i like that they're doing this but I prefer the vintage one, colour-wise and detail-wise. but I will get this because I never had the vintage one as a kid, so I am going to appreciate this new one in all it's purple glory.

I love this remake. So cute and no too different from the original. I have and love both versions! I do wish that the new one either didn't have a timer for the lights, or that it at least lasted a little longer.
Uh oh looks like you got a slightly defective one. The Heart on the right side of the door is rubbed off a little.

Just got mine. Great remake over all.
Like you, I like to keep the box and let me tell you... It took grrr, 45 minutes of trying to figure out how to carefully remove the compact.
Even though I've seen complete mint Starlight Castles for as low as $65. I don't like playing with the real vintage ones consistently.
I think the quality differences are minor. Anyway, the original were actually played with by children so they had to be sturdy. These Keepsake repros are obviously made for adult collectors who are more careful, some never even removing from the box!
Some more comments:
Unlike some, I found the compact overall well made. I did find it hard to open the unicorn door so I don't click it all the way shut.
I did use clear varnish on the dolls and logo so the paint won't rub off easily with play.
Another interesting factoid....
While they made the prince (Casper) politically correct dark skin and I understand the thinking behind that, I noticed that in the instructions, they showed the original "white" prince version. Maybe a last minute change to make the toy more universal?
Just a curious fact.
It also seems that they started the repros 30 years after the first year 1989 +30= 2019. Every year they make a new Keepsake compact corresponding to +30 years or so after the original release?
So maybe the next one will be a remake of the best selling compact of 1993-4?
The change in battery door with screw, and the auto shut off feature is because of new regulations on kids toys so they are safer, and batteries last longer, won't corrode as fast etc.

I really really hope Poket Poket does more Keepersake models. I love them as I was a kid but I just had one. My childrem loved this and I wanted to buy them one but then I saw the new models and I dont like them. But this Keepsake collection is really cute and without thinking I bought it.
honestly though I started asking for ebay cards for my birthday since polly pockets are so expensive, the pairis set was my dream and i literally still had to pay 70 dollars out of pocket when i had a 50 dollar gift card, they are so expensive and going up everyday! i literally treat my collection like its gold since my polly pocket watch is worth 300 dollars, its insane
It has gotten so much more expensive in the last year too! My dad collects trains and he said trains have gotten more expensive too. It's because more people have taken up collecting since the pando so demand is much higher now.

I have the whole of the pink battlement on the left side missing the deeper pink detailing. So not a scuff. I'd return it but I'm worried I'll just end up with a different issue. 😅 Everything else is lovely but I have to say I too prefer the vintage (not one I have).
It's easy to repaint and yeah you risk getting a worse set 😬
I just got the Keepsake castle & don't have the original one to compare it too (yet 🤭). The Keepsake compact feels very 'loose', the compact falls shut if i tilt it the tiniest bit forward. Is this normal? The vintage compacts I have neverrrr close if I tilt them
The Keepsake ones can be kinda finicky. One of the Keepsake ones I got didn't even come with a silver logo! Just depends on luck ☹️

I don't know why they don't just copy the originals especially since it's a keepsake. The original is far superior.
Different factories, most likely. They likely also want to spend less on manufacturing. :(
