  • This video explains the steps I took to diagnose the BATTERY LIGHT issue on my friend’s 2005 Mazda Miata. The process shown here is very similar for all 1990-2005 Miatas. However, the alternators vary by year and if the car is manual vs. automatic transmission.
    Be very specific when ordering your replacement.
    Sometimes, charging issues can be intermittent and hard to pin down.
    Before replacing anything, make sure that all connections are tight and secure. One of my loyal viewers took the time to share his story with me. In his case, the nut that holds the main power cable to the alternator was coming loose and causing the battery light to come on intermittently.

    That maintenance looks so much easier in the NB than the NA.

    Very useful. This is being stored in my mx5 archive for the day when I'll need it.
    That pivot bolt is a major pain in the arse, even when you're only changing the belt. What were the designers at Mazda thinking?

    damn, my diagnosis was quick. there was no belt on the alternator pulley. luckily my skid plate caught the belt... atleast what remained of one.

    I had this happen with my 99 nb miata a few days after I bought it, I also had all of my coolant leak out from a gasket that was really hard to get to

    Whats it mean when I tested the battery, it was testing at 14.5-15. Check engine light is on for multiple misfire detected. Overcharging is also shown up on another alternator / battery tester.

    I’ve swapped my alternator, battery, checked all the fuses and connections, and after everything, the alternator isn’t charging the battery but the alternator is working

      Alright so after having tons of issues I recently discovered that there’s a main ground wire in the ppf. Mine was disconnected and after I had bolted it back, my car worked perfectly fine. For everyone else, the ground is more towards the back of the ppf by the rear right wheel

      Edit: found out that the positive wire running to the alternator was broken. So I just cut it, covered it up and then ran a wire from the starter to the alternator.

      @@issacsisneros2489 thanks I’ll check on that once I get home from work. I got a new battery and alternator and it charges the battery but then dies out once I start the car and doesn’t let me drive it.

    Would you share the part number of the new alternator? As well as where it was purchased from because us 01-05 miata guys are hurting for a reliable source to find an alternator that plays friendly with the voltage regulator that's inside our ecu's

    I’m running 14.5 volts in my NA but I’m still having a battery light is there anyway to force remove it

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  7 місяців тому

      Is the battery getting hot?
      On rare occasions, an “overcharge” condition can trigger the battery light to come on. I would also double check all connections and grounding points.

      @@MiataManall grounding points and connections are good but I think it could be because I’m running a 96 civic battery, but my fuse box ground was disconnected for a long time and I reconnected it now I have proper voltage but still a battery light

    Does anybody know what that dumb bolt is called because my alternator just doesn’t have it and I need one

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 роки тому

      Are you referring to the “adjuster bolt”? It is a combination of a long bolt that goes through a block and has a shorter bolt that locks it to the alternator bracket.

      Have you tested the alternator to make sure it’s working correctly and generating the correct voltage?
      New/remanufactured parts can be defective.
      If you are losing battery power overnight, you likely have a bad ground or a faulty electrical component.
      A bad ignition switch or faulty could cause an electrical drain.
      Let me know what you find out 👍

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  3 роки тому +4

      You should also check to make sure all the connections to the alternator are tight. Be sure to disconnect the battery before working on it.
