  • This video walks you through setting up your first 4 switches with a PIKO #35013 Switch Decoder. Jonathan shows you how to use the PIKO Digital System to easily control electric switch machines (PIKO #35271, LGB 12010 and others) using switch decoders.
Learn how switch decoders can help you avoid long wires running clear across a big layout from a control panel. See how easy it is to connect a few short wires. In just minutes, you can be selecting each switch individually and controlling it from your handheld PIKO #35021 Navigator remote.
(Setting up 5+ switches is shown in a companion video located at • Switch Decoders, Part ... )

The PIKO 35013 Switch Decoder should operate fine on any DCC system that offers switch decoder control. I would suggest looking in the Roco Z21 manual or contacting their customer service. Especially if you are able to operate the switch decoder using your PIKO Digital system, this would indicate something in the Z21. The default setting on the PIKO Digital system is for momentary power, as the PIKO switch machines require. Make sure that your Z21 is not trying to control a slow-motion switch motor or some other format.

Hello, I use Z21 control central and it works with PIKO 35013 switch decoder well. Please consider that in ROCO systems the addresses numbers are shifted by 4. It means the first address in PIKO 35013 is 5 instead of 1 next 6, 7 and 8.

The 35013 should accept programming commands from any brand DCC-compliant system. The steps on your system will not be the same as the PIKO G Digital system, but you'd still program the same value into the same CV. Of course, be sure to insert the programming jumper, or nothing will be programmed.

We received a question regarding advanced functions with switch decoders and the digital system. However it was marked as spam by UA-cam and was not posted. We are sorry to that person.
To answer their question, I can say we are hoping to get a chance to make some more videos showing you how to use more advanced functions of PIKO Switch Decoders and the PIKO Digital System. Admittedly, we are pretty busy shipping out orders, planning for next year, preparing for trade shows and events, doing research, designing trains, tinkering with trains, etc. so we are not sure when we can get to it. We hope you have enough PIKO trains to get by until we can add a few more fun and informative videos for you.
