    this is the best saddle stitch video I've watched. so many others don't show good enough angles to really see how the looping goes. or they stitch way to fast. thanks for this, its getting saved in my leather craft playlist.

      Thank you so much for this great feedback.
      I remembered having a hard time finding out how to do it properly. And I didn't want others to struggle that much.
      Happy it helps 🥰

    Great job and great tutorial! I have been sewing for a while and suggest to notice the punched holes slant direction, bottom of the holes are towards you. This detail is veeery important!
    Patience and consistance are also crucial! 😂

    Beautiful thread looks like linen! 🧵 whats the make and color?

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  4 місяці тому

      Thank you for asking. This is a polyester pre-waxed thread from TenColorsOfLight. This one is a 0.6mm round thread in turquoise.

    I'm so happy about this and have to try to pull in another direction. Seems like I have been pulling my threads the wrong way which might be why my stitches look wobbly, even though I am doing the needle and thread crossing correctly🤔

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  Рік тому

      Yeah sometimes just trying a new way can make things better. I was doing it differently at the beginning and couldn't get my lines right.
      Now it's all good with the pulling and the small cross/loop on my left side 😁

    How to do it with soft cloth like leather ?
    I cant maintain tension

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  14 днів тому

      Unfortunately I don't know. I suppose the stitch pattern can be made with a machine and the right tension. With soft leather it's also hard to get the right shape because of the tension, but you usually need to apply less tension to get it right.

    Will be better if got different color of needle..for newbie

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  7 місяців тому

      That's a good point 👍 thank you for your suggestion. For teaching, maybe having 2 colours of thread would be easier (colour doesn't last on needles 😁)

    • @dompetmerah
      @dompetmerah 7 місяців тому

      @@LordLeatherCraft yes too bad, the color will disappear, except on the curved parts if there is such a needle.

    I did this with waxed thread on much thinner leather. Just two layers, but thinner. My stitches never look as neat as yours, though the holes are punched by a proper tool. Any hints? I tried coming in the back of the thread as you did, then in front (several stitches worth to get consistency) and nothing worked. It looks messy compared to yours. I did tension, then stretch the leather out to make sure there was no bunching etc. Help?

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  6 місяців тому +2

      Hello,
      Sorry this is happening to you. It could be several things. Some hints, I have better results on thin layers:
      - putting a bit less tension
      - not exaggerating the movement (left hand less high and right hand less low)
      - using french style pricking irons instead of diamond style.
      It's mostly a feeling you'll get by practicing so it's hard to explain. I know other crafters have other techniques, so I suppose this can be an individual approach each of us find with time and practice.
      Hope this can help you at least a little 😊👍

      Armitage leather just released a 3 hour(!) series on saddle stitching. Super long I know, but it really helped me understand the mechanics of the stitch and in turn how to get a consistent look, would recommend.

    Can you do this with flat thread ?

    • @LordLeatherCraft
      @LordLeatherCraft  Рік тому

      Hello 👋 Yes you can, that's the exact same process except you'll try to keep the thread flat on the visible part of the thread to avoid having a twist directly against the leather.

    Spacing and thread size 🧵 🪡 ? Thank you!

      It's a french style normal direction iron of 3.85mm and a thread of 0.6mm 🙂
