I went from decades of living with total blindness to having X-ray vision, almost overnight. These people glow in the dark to me, now. I realized that I possessed an unsolicited expertise in a something that I was born in to, yet I didn’t even know existed, previously.

What I can't stand is that they are so entitled and have the superiority complex.

My covert narcissist mother hid it perfectly from outside the home.
Every one thought she was a very innocent lovely woman. They never saw the true her.the reality of how horrible and cruel and neglectful of her children. Her intense violence to her children and hateful. Sicko.
    Sly sneaky devious and vindictive.
Her golden children still can't see it because they are so invested in needing her attention

I know how this feels because it's the same thing with my mom and the rest of the world including my family. It's a lot to comprehend especially when you are the only one who is willing to see the truth. Hang in there please. The world needs you because you can help others who went through to feel like their not alone.

I grew up with it, married into it, worked with it until finally opening my eyes, (thank you therapy & psychology gurus such as Sir R. Grannon), and began to understand the narc behaviors profile.
I'm still a grasshopper, but I can now recognize narc & other kinds of character disordered behaviors pretty quickly in others.
I'm not at a place where I feel 100% about detection, but enough to swerve when I sense somebody is displaying that level of arrogance & aggression.

Unfortunately, many people work a lot,& basic survival needs, demands, etc. CONSUMES their time, leaving no time to watch all the videos,THAT they Really NEED to see. This works in favor of Narcissist Epidemic. I was fortunate enough to be available, due to a medical injury, which allowed me to see many videos.People NEED to figure out a way to learn this. Then they will see what we see.
Ironically, some narc can see that we KNOW that they are narcissist& they then try to get away from me. Weird.

People recognize “it” but most folks are only now coming to understand narcissism as we have so many in the public eye who are narcissists. We are learning the terms. We are learning the clusters of behaviors. Also, in graduate school, reading about narcissists was dry and clinical. Now that we have so many public and heinous examples, we can apply the knowledge better. No need to rage.

I can relate with you when it comes to seeing thru people who are trying to cover up their narcissism. It's both a blessing and a curse to be able to read people without having to try because like you said, usually nobody else sees what we see so it can be frustrating and also kinda isolating. For me it can be anyway because I sometimes would rather be by myself than with people who have no idea who their spending their time with.

Something I've noticed that no one mentions is that the narc has absolutely no patience for anything that involves a learning curve because of their need to appear perfectly capable, and all-knowing. They can't tolerate being seen as a beginner where they're not good at whatever the task is and are incapable of saying "I haven't yet mastered this".

I always felt like my ex was playing a game with me, but I couldn’t pin point it, then was told by a therapist what it was. She gave me bad advice, and told me to stay with him, so I did, until he broke it off after cheating on me. When they broke up, I was at his beckoning all over again. I found a different therapist who then introduced me to the lingo trauma bonded, and codependency. It’s not like a light switch you can turn off, and on easily. It’s been a roller coaster from hell. I know he’s not healthy to be around, but also feel like I can’t do anything without him, even make simple choices.

yeah. i find that it's hard to tell sometimes, though, unless you get to know someone better, like it can take years. some people can come off as narcs but then you find that they do have genuine empathy and you can think someone is nice but when the chips are down they aren't there. but yeah, sometimes it is really obvious. narcs are usually very guarded and defensive people. get into a conflict with them and that can make it easy to tell. they can't handle conflict. triggers them every time.

I know that cause I was manipulated by a covert narcissist for 10 years in a toxic relationship and it took me many years "to see it"! When I understand and was avalible too see it and got knowledge of NPD ... I left him. That was for 9 years ago. Got NC to be aware from him and his hoovering. It was always a big job to avoid him and his flying monkeys 😒😖 Then ... he died in last February this year. Only 55 years old, alone in his flat of massive and multiple diagnosis of illness. Caused of his alcoholism.
Now ... I' m free from his abused. At last and for ever. It's only a few of flying monkeys and crying women (who all of them: still belive on his lies and also think They where his Only truth Love- pathetic!) - sad for them, but I don't care.

The thing with a covert narcissist is if you speak up at all, they covertly attack your character and define for you (possibly) why you are saying what you're saying. Usually it's a claim that you're after control or you have rage issues or you something is wrong with you for speaking up, even and especially when you're correct about their character.

Growing up I never got along with any of the girls in my class at all, they all were the have to wear makeup, pretty dresses, shopoholic popular type who liked to play with dolls and dress up…and it was all the way in elementary school, middle, highschool and some college it was the same over and over to where I internally judge every girl because of the way they dress and how they have their makeup. I will be nice and keep it to myself but I see almost every girl (mainly the pretty, social media, party girls, the ones always in heavy looking makeup) as stuck up,act nice but really passive aggressive, judgy B’s. I tried to be friends with one and it was all fine but then she got more perfectionist(like over worked in school to be in the top classes and best grades…and I didn’t even think finished her college degree…? Would always say she’s so busy with school work but would “brag” about how they would sit and be on a computer during the week for 6-7 hours. over work, thought she was more mature, never sided with me when it came to a big drama thing(I was the one in the write and even pulled the whole, type something and if you didn’t type a certain code word she wouldn’t even read my response or acknowledge it). I would constantly be told hey give me two week notice,I would and it would be like over but then cancel last min or day of and I would find out that they would go do something else with another friend then hang with me. Also if someone planned the same thing same day she would go to it but if I tried to plan it she would cancel last min(happened multiple times).
I hate it but it’s also been helpful finding friends who are girls that won’t be like that.
    For those in comments:
The computer thing,im like yeah it’s fine it’s a break but don’t constantly say you’re overworked with school work that you can’t do anything but school work but then talk about an online campaign that you say in front of the computer for 6-8hours a week.
And yes I knew of the classes she took, she talked about them and I knew of the work amount…
