- In this video, I discuss some emissions faults that are common among various makes and models and change the canister vent solenoid on a 2006 Buick Lacrosse with the 3.8L V6.
Cheap OBD scanner used to find what codes are coming up: amzn.to/36Ym9r2
P0455 = A gross emission leak
Steps I would take to remedy:
1.) Examine gas cap, depending on condition replace. Also look for dried or cracked vacuum hoses.
2.) Replace the EVAP emission canister vent solenoid. This is what is shown replaced in the video and is located near the fuel tank.
3.) Replace EVAP canister purge valve, which is located in the engine bay.
P0499
Steps to remedy:
1.) Since code is directly related to the EVAP canister vent solenoid located near the fuel tank (like shown in this video) replace solenoid.

The vent solenoid is the one by the gas tank, the one in the engine bay is the purge valve solenoid.
Are the connectors servicable? Can i replace the orings?
thanks for this. I also understand the hose at the canister can deteriorate as well.am gonna check mine and maybe hit it with some rustoleum when I'm done.
Thanks for the detailed video, i will deal w the vent solenoid soon thanks to you! Wish me luck. Mine is a 2007 Lacrosse with p0455 code
My update is that the nylon pipe connection of gas tank to the vent solenoid had cracked. I just spliced that pipe into two, introduced a brass coupler and connected the 2 pipes using Teflon tape for a waterproof seal. The problem is now resolved. The nylon pipe connection has bends due to crappy design of the vent solenoid inlet connection. The cost of repairs was just 10 bucks!
8/2020 Called local Buick price for canister 31 bucks and wire harness 42 bucks. those are the Ac Delco brand. Dorman makes one for about 28 bucks WITH the plug.
My '02 Malibu is giving the EVAP code (forgot what it is) but will have to check again. This is a very helpful video !!!
Patrick Joseph have the same problem but I have the a Chevy Malibu 2000
If you're looking for a good cheap OBD scanner like the one in the video to figure out why your check engine light is on check out this one: amzn.to/36Ym9r2
Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) parts replaced on this 2006 Buick LaCrosse 3.8L V6 in this video include:
OEM ACDelco brand EVAP Vent Canister/Soleniod (underneath the car) with adapter harness: amzn.to/3o8ncf9
OEM ACDelco brand EVAP Vent Valve/Canister Purge Valve (in the engine bay): amzn.to/37bMQJ3
*Double check part numbers depending on what GM vehicle you're looking to fix emission codes on (most look similar but may be slightly different) and I highly suggest sticking with the OEM brand*
Good video. straight to the point. thanks. now I can fix my chevy impala. thanks.
Even if you have to buy more than one part, it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than having a shop do it !!!
Nah learn how to to read a real scanner ...instead of buying part after part😂😂😂🤫😉👌🤟
Mounting the nylon pipe by hand is really really difficult. It is dangerous to use heat gun as that pipe is connected to gas tank. Please be warned. If your nylon pipe cracks, you repair the crack using various kits available at popular auto part stores.
the shop is gonna guess and charge you for guessing
and having a shop 'learn' from your car and get it wrong two times. Heck, I can do that much.
No check engine light but gas tank hard to fill. Is this a clue that the canister vent valve is defective? Replaced the purge valve year ago. Best video yet on subject.
Purge solenoid valve. My car was doing the same thing. When I filled it up the car would stall and then eventually stall
Could be a rusted filler neck too
Replaced both the valves and the gas cap. Hope charcoal canister fixes problem
Do you need to clear the code after each “fix”?
This video was GOLD!!!!
Thanks a Lot Amigo, God Bless You
9 times outta 10 its the vent cannister by the fuel intake under the car.
My issue was a crack in nylon pipe at a bend- it was bent for 13 years so I guess it was bound to fail.
GOOD TO HAVE A NICE WARM GARAGE LOL
Ain't that the truth. I live in an apartment building and have a two-day window to work with on the weekends.
I replaced the canister, gas cap and the solenoid and still have the p0449 code.
Maybe a crack in the fuel pump
Bad or Cracked hose somewhere (a smoke test will find it quick) or cracked canister or wiring.....test the wiring has continuity and voltage. That would be the first test to do rather than throw unnecessary parts at a problem that isn't verified to be the actual problem. Exactly what I did because I was being lazy and "thought" I knew what the problem was. Replaced both parts for nothing just to have the P0499 pop right back up. Irritating to say the least. Most likely you have a dry rotted hose somewhere or a bad, broken or shorted wire or there is a corroded connection somewhere along the loom and that needs to be cleaned up and fixed. Then test again for continuity and voltage to confirm the repair, clear codes and drive. Should be good to go unless you have a demon haunting your EVAP system.
@@MyBigThing2010If you have an older car, then throwing in new parts to chase a problem is not a bad idea. Most of them are cheap.
My problem was a. Leak in the hose back at the canister. In the very back of car In the trunk area. Under neath the car I unhooked the hose at the purg vale hook up low volume. Air. With. Very little gas in the car. Found leak in 10 seconds
Po499 have changed everything and still the engine light on any suggestions of what it could be?
Even if the valve moves it may not hold a vacuum.
My 2006 Buick rendezvous is giving the p0455 code. First it was the check engine light then it said it was the gas cap. I replaced the gas cap but it's still telling me that it is open and the check engine light is still on. Any advice?

Is this what causes the car to idle when im at a stop light? Or what could it be? Ive already replaced the gas cap and the other part by the tank.. i have the p0449 code showing up but not the other code. Please help. Thank you!
Nice handy machine you got there.
Dealing with P0455 issue in my 2K Dodge Dakota, fumes coming under my truck.
my problem is when i refill the tank petrol it shut off many times the petrol flow. I haven't any other problem when i'm driving. Do you think the most likely is the vent valve near the tank is off?
Excellent video
Will this code also include the Fuel Pump?
Is this the same on the supercharged version of the 3800 V6 (P0449)
Yes
Thank you
Hi. Will a bad vent solonoid cause a gas cap rubber gasket to always get wet? Thanks 😊
Dude excellent video, A+++
I replaced the cap and both valves and the code is still there.. what are the other possibilities?
Ive done all of this multiple times and still have the issue. I have an 06 malibu lt v6 3.5l. Ive even gone as far as to replace the wires that go to the solenoid under the car. Please help.
Same car and same problem I got a new gas cap that didn’t work and the purge valve
Fuel sensor !!!! Have u changed THAT if not that's your problem!!!
I had that problem I live in apart ment so it took time for me finally figure it out
99% of the time it’s the vent valve, especially on GM’s.....rarely is it the gas cap....
If you have a scanner with live data capabilities, the purse solenoid will read 100 % wide open when open throttle.
I replaced mines and still ride funky lol
@@carlosherrera8541
If you have a scanner that reads live data look at that. You could also do a smoke test to see if and where the leak is if any.
Where would this be on a 2009 Chevy traverse
A better OBD scanner will make it easier to figure out the ptoblem faster... The is good to read if car is ready for smog that's it ... 🤔🤣😂😂🙄🤫✊🤡😉☝️🤙
unfortunately my vent valve is above the gas tank... grrrrr
Should have done the 12 volt test.
PO449 Or PO499 code?
Thanks helpful
Canister replaced. Purge valve replaced. Still showing on reader.
hoses have a hole somewhere im sure
Are the orings servicable similar to fuel lines?
What if it's PO446
Why throw parts at it? Proper diagnosis will find the leak...
If you have a car that has over 100k miles, doesn't hurt to replace those parts anyway.
@@HToWnRePPiiN only to the wallet.
To diagnose it takes a smoke test which from what I've seen runs around 80 bucks which is more than both of those two parts cost together...

Change gas cap
just subbed.
Thank you!
is it possible both can go?
Reggie Williams yes I had replaced both on my truck
Yes they can especially if your fuel pressure regulator us failing or failed.
Had GM CEL on from brand new , and could never shut off ,,, JUNK
Po455 chev malbu 2007 replace gas cap
hello good day and if the check engine witness is removed by changing the fuel cap?
Adrian Abernathy hello good day, the check engine witness is removed by changing fuel cap
Chirrin Diaz Is that a question? If light comes off and stays off, and gas doesn’t shut off while filling, it was cap...I think.
Code P0442 chevy trailblazer, model 2008 and plz also tell me about the code 7EA
I keep gettin p0013
Maybe you should take your original vid and do a voice-over with the corrected info?? LOL
the most important part you FAIL TO MENTION, COST !!!! THINK WHEN YOUR MAKING VIDEOS !!
1.) You're*
2.) Since prices always vary between retailers and are always changing, I show just the part number so the viewer can do some research to find best price.
3.) I'm glad out of all things, that's what you chose to take from the video..
Come on. It's not O it's 0. Can't you see the slash???
I like saying O.. it seems to make folks PO'ed
@@WeakestofWeeks Not much comes up when searching for a PO455 instead of a P0455. When I worked at the hospital, an oxygen supply alarm could not be reset because staff kept entering an O instead of a 0. The patient died.
There ya go shoot the parts cannon at it instead of diagnosing it the correct way did you do a visual inspection of the wiring first did you check your wiring integrity did you look at the service manual to see what conditions have to met for it to set that code the scan tool code only gives you the circuit where the problem is not the exact cause it's only a starting point and all the parts stores won't give you any direction they'll give you the code and they'll tell you it's this or that because they make $$ by selling parts not knowledge no sense in spending a ton of $$ on a part you don't need when it could be something as simple as patching a chafed wire
Lol, you're an idiot dude. It's process of elimination parts wise then possible electric ya asshat clown
You ever worked on a car??? Sounds like you'd spend days searching for an electrical problem instead of swapping the part and fixing the problem lol
