I will always love Pan's name and how it fits with the naming conventions of _both_ Son Goku's family (foods) and Mr. Satan's family (the Devil,) with it working as a reference to both bread and to the devilish-looking Greek deity.
When i worked that out I was honestly gobsmacked how clever it was!
It also works with Piccolo as well, as there's a pan flute. That said, I don't know if it works as well with Mr. Satan's family since Pan was a Greek god and isn't referenced in Christian mythos or tied to it in popular culture. The closest Pan is in reference to the devil is that later depictions of the devil resemble Pan, but it's nothing more than conflating two unrelated figures.

@@bradywolfe362 He doesn't "think" anything, that's how it's pronounced. If you listen to the Japanese dialogue, that's how they pronounce it. Same reason he emphasizes the -ku in Goku instead of the Go- like it is in English.

Hilarious thing about GT that you don’t notice until it gets pointed out is just how many characters have Mr Satan’s chin.
Seriously, look at Redict, General Rildo, most of the Shadow Dragons and a bunch of the extras- they’ve all got that exact jawline!
Not just Mr. Satan, some of them have that Evil Buu chin.
I noticed, but only because I watched lion king and lion king 2 a lot and noticed how vitani looked more like a pridelander than an outlander. It was natural after that to notice distinct features like that
Was a trend that started in Buu Saga and came from Toriyama's style at the time, but then got out of control in GT

@SonicmaniaVideos she didn't have her guard up so it actually hit her. Usually I'd imagine there's the slightest ki barrier protecting them from basic dangers and being raised as a human and being more human in general, she has to be more conscious in keeping it up.
I never considered that, outside of the Budokai games, TFS was the first new DBZ content we had had in forever.
My dude there was absolutely NOTHING until TFS came along.
I've been here since I randomly found episode 2 and these guys have only gotten better.

And keep in mind, depending on if you got an NTSC or PAL release, some people used to Rock the Dragon got their first exposure to Cha La Head Cha La. 😊

As someone who knows how bad GT is but appreciates it for some of it's novelty and ideas, even with shoddy execution, I appreciate going on this Grand Tour with you guys a lot. Much love.
A friend of mine (who’s a big fan of Dragon Ball and is the reason why I even bothered to watch abridged) gave me a summary of the entire GT plot one day and I was there thinking and telling him “okay, that’s a really good idea!” “Wow, that was so badly executed…” “oh wow, that sounds neat!” “oh… yeah I guess that works too (neutral)” And such
TL;DR: from what I’ve heard, there were very good ideas, but horrible execution for most of them

In Elrond's defence, the fellowship was depending on stealth, and Gandalf was already drawing a lot of attention to the group. Vegeta not going to save the planet he lived on with his wife and kids has no such excuse.

@@spiderken3102 Honeslty, that problaby would have been interesting plot point (I dont think tehy be able to handle it) but it would be really funny to see that happen, especially if he runs into the remains of the Freeza empire.
Edit: Honeslty I think this is something that really bothered me when I watched GT but i could remenbering wrong, but we honeslty get no references or mentions of Freeza's Empire or even His Dad in any planet that the group visits wich would have made Vegeta travelling with them even better since he could go "Oh, I think i remenber this planet" and have some knowledge about the place, wich could be missing details or be very wrong due to the passage of time.

14:20 Honestly, I actually feel like not only would they have to survive Pan, but also, despite her being from the "lineage of Kakarot", they'd even have to survive "uncle Vegeta" too. Because, despite his tough exterior, this Vegeta seems to have always a soft-spot towards girls. I mean, just look at how he treats his wife and daughter, compared to his son and the other boys.
I get the feeling that if this Vegeta ever saw Pan crying, due to a break up, he would definitely have some words to say to the person who did it.
And not for nothing Grandpa Satan, beloved mascot of Earth. At the very least there be stigma around being the guy to make Satans grandkid cry.

Part of Pan’s character is that she wants to be taken more seriously, but a lot of times she’s not really helping her case with how reckless and childish she can be.

As a dedicated GT hater, I decided to do my own watch through of GT cuz of you guys, I've actually been enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would after the first few episodes

Had a friend who said she'd come with me on this journey of both watching for the first time in our fandom, and by this episode, she had tapped out. And I...could not blame her.
Well...that's what was advertised, but 3 episodes on the same planet seems to run opposite of returning to Dragon Ball's roots.
So, the upcoming episodes would be better than this.
I remember loving ledgic so much because the idea of this cool blue alien guy who has chains and can just sprout weapons out of his body seem so cool to me
Totally not Mark pointed this on in his GT video, but it's implied that the Kamehameha was what made Ledgic realize Goku is a Saiyan, since he only points out he is a Saiyan after Goku uses the Kamehameha...
Which doesn't make any sense since the Kamehameha was invented by Master Roshi, it's not a Saiyan technique.
11:35 I actually think there was a channel here on UA-cam that started doing a GT Abridged where they added that to the character’s plot. In fact, he thinks that Goku IS Bardock simply from looking at his hair. The channel was shut down, but I do have a distinct memory of that being in there.

I love the editor. When they were talking about Ledgic's backstory and how it would be cool if he mentioned Bardock conquering his planet. I was waiting for them to mention Granolah and they didn't. It would have drove me nuts if the editor didn't fade in his picture.

My friend and I shared so many good times quoting you guys and we were so stoked when yall came out with the commentary episodes.
He passed away suddenly at 33 years old just a couple days ago and i'm left regretting all the words left unspoken. All the episodes he won't be able to watch. I'm heartbroken but thankful for all the laughter and entertainment you've brought us over the years. Rest in peace my brother, Scott. Tell King Yemma I said hi ❤

That’s how abridged series occur organically. Perhaps they’ll do a few episodes to abridge the entire GT series but they’ll never make a serious attempt at abridging the entire series.

im actually really loving this series, this is a MUCH better way of just watching a watch along. its a piece by piece critique of GT start to finish that doesnt FULLY spoil it if you wanted to watch it yourself. kinda reminds me of red letter media a lot

The "what if Ledgic was Granolah" section was VERY funny in an ironic sort of way
The power creep in GT is almost as crazy as Super's because Goku in base even after being shrunk down is able to casually slap around SSJ Gohan and Goten like canon fodder. Keep in mind the databook for GT says that Gohan's mystic form in Buu remained his base and he added SSJ on top of that. This is consistent with Rildo and Baby being above Buu by Goku and Goten's testaments.

This is partially why everyone says that the other characters are so useless in this show, because Goku essentially became too powerful until the main villains show up.

I find it hilarious how GT lays down the seeds of Goku and Redict meeting again some day....only for that to NEVER happen. God there is so much about the first 10 eps of GT that I straight-up DON'T remember at all.
My guess is they thought the show was going to run longer than it did and be a bigger success than it was. They ended up being wrong and just never got around to it.

22:00 I know in Japan the 'Dragonball comeback' is largely considered to be Dragonball Heroes. That game was and is an absolute phenomenon and became one of the highest grossing arcade machines ever in the country. It introduced a whole new generation to Dragonball and ended up putting the series back into the public mind over there.

20:16 PREACH IT! It's what I've been saying about GT ever since finishing it twice. This show manages the feat of being both far too slow and yet way too fast. It will speedrun moments it really should take its time with but it will slow to a fucking CRAWL on moments it really shouldn't and by I would say the time we get to Baby? You feel like you're going insane.
I remember playing on the Game Boy Advance "Dragon Ball GT: Transformation" which was paired with "Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury."

I think then there would be some kind of damage on the ground from it ^^ and neither the sound on the head nor the sound on the ground suggestes that it was heavy in any way
and even if it was heavy it wouldnt hurt them too much. as far as we know power levels magically makes every body part more durable somehow, even the eyes.
13:42 might be similar to when goku was super saiyan in the week to the cell games but got hurt from krillin throeing a rock due to him have no guard up
I will say I do like Pan. I think she has her shining moments and really like her potential as a character. But I'm not a "defender." She's so inconsistently written in GT that I don't blame a single person who doesn't like her.
Also I WAS there. I have a drawer filled with all my DBZ stuff like the original card game, the Beckett magazine that was put out in the early 2000's, those uncut DVDs you spoke about and more. I thought for the longest time the only way to satisfy that Dragon Ball craving was through games. Then Battle of Gods came out and we were so back!
What they should have done with Pan was to build her up as a character that wants her family to accept her and not view her as this child, that she can stand alongside them. To then have her face her own problem that she is trying to prove to herself that she is a warrior and that determination and fear is what causes her to hold herself back. And first female Super Saiyan.
This series is suddenly changing my life

Just thought of to solve the flying issue: Rich McCapitalist man went a step further in keeping everyone grounded, has a device running through the entire planet that keeps the gravity high enough to where people's ships stick to the ground, because screw anyone trying to escape. The waves affect anyone using ki to fly, so the crew is grounded, but can still jump good-ish. They eventually break the device and thus can fly :D

I think the first 3 or 4 episodes were all I saw. I saw GT shortly after I saw DBZ for the first time when I was 5. Besides that, I knew of baby’s existence, the shadow dragons, and ssj4.
To be fair, in many other medias where you have other saiyans (without tail and stuff) they can identify saiyans by their ki signature. Through the show many times was shown that different races have different ki signatures, that is how Goku senses the Namekians to get Dende, by looking to ki signatures similar to Piccolo.
Imagine if this show was about exploring the universe and how its handled the power vaccum after Freeza and King Cold died, if Vegeta had gone with them to help them navigate it; potentially being recognised as a saiyan which could cause issues. If Pan was focused on as the main character, maybe the first arc being focused on her struggling with the the responsibility she demanded to be given to her, ending with her coming to terms with it in maybe a super saiyan reveal moment, just cus that'd be fun and SSJ already being made trivial by Goten and Trunks. This show genuinely had potential and it hurts
