Resistor doesn't go between coil and distributor it goes on the power side of the coil to cut the power down before it goes through the coil, the unused terminal on your alternator would be hooked to the generator light which will go out when you start the tractor showing you have charge
If you are switching from a generator or a 2 wire alternator to a 1 wire alternator hook the red and green to the same spot on your 1 wire alternator. Red runs to amp gauge and green powers the rotary switch. Are you just changing to a 1 wire alternator or rewiring your system? What do you have going on?
@@fivecharlie I’m changing out a bad alternator. The previous one had the exterior wire connecting the terminal to the output with the other wires. My new one is a one wire. However, my ammeter is showing a discharge after startup. Oddly enough it shows a slight charge when you start it as if the wires are switched at the ammeter. My red wire runs to the ammeter negative post. Should it be running to the positive side of the ammeter?
@@signcutter6977 it probably does need to be switched. Sounds like it is hooked up backwards. In my video I say to hook the red wire to the terminal on the left as you are sitting in the seat and looking at the gauge. My alternator went bad a few weeks ago and I switched mine to a 1 wire and found out I had my gauge hooked up backwards cause it showed a discharge. Switched them around and gauge reads correctly now but it charged with the gauge hooked up backwards as well as the right way. Try switching them around and see if gauge is right then.

I have the one wire alternator. Should both of my wires, red and green, be attached to the same spot on the alternator if I do t follow your method?
