Basia, Lisa Stansfield & Swing Out Sister were my fave trio for the jazzy, blue-eyed soul, feel-good pop. They stood out among the vast ocean of female talents in the genre...IMO Nevertheless, I still have a TON of 80s /90s artistes I love apart from them. It's a helluva list too!! 🤩🤩🤩
I’ve seen SOS live a couple times before and it was phenomenal. Basia, Lisa, EBTG, Sade, Workshy and all these quiet storm/adult contemporary artists hit the spot so well. They make me happy anytime no matter how shitty my day gets. I wasn’t born when the scene was hot but I’m glad I somehow discovered this kind of music at some point in my life. This song is a true classic.
Speaking of newer stuff from this genre, go check The Beauty Room. They debuted in the late 00s when I was in high school. Basically a side project of London-based DJ Kirk Degiogio. On the slightly more R&B-ish side, Canadian singer Jeff Hendrick got some sweet jams too. They’re so underrated but are hidden gems.
@@hobbymanx9200Thank you for telling us :) I think Sophisti-Pop essence actually still alive and well, Just mostly move into Acid-Jazz / Jazz-Funk / Westcoast (I always feel that Sophisti-Pop major drawback would be it would be it was easily repetitive in the long term, Even Swing Out Sister have to change their style start from mid 90s) There's old band that still doing great like Workshy, Matt Bianco, Incognito and Shakatak latest album was superb!!!!! Also in new era like Soulrender (German Group, I love "Circles") Lo Van Gorp (Dutch singer) Any production from Papik (Irma Records with a singer like Ely Bruna, David Florio) or Super DB always make my life lively :) It may hard to remember due to their music like this often appeared a lot in the same time, Even I have a limit to explore new music despite there's someone that love to introduced us that music like this still alive and well haha. But it's worth to hear :) Notes : I noticed The Beauty Room have Chris Whitten (Drummer who play with Swing Out Sister in many songs) as a members. Would gladly check it out :)
@@hobbymanx9200 I'm still disappointed when EBTG fans accused them as selling out during "Idlewild" & "Language of Life" and led them to change their style to dance-music oriented. Then whine later about nobody making music like their 80s era anymore, Yikes 🤨 But recently I heard Rapallo "Merger" album, Duo from Canada. Very good stuff :) Also french duo Mandoo "Pacific Addiction" :)
What beat. What soul. What a clear voice. She can even scat! Read the words of the songs she writes, very cleaver. It’s been more than 30 years now, I just never tire of Basia.
I have always loved Basia. She is SO talented, her songs, her voice, her musical compositions, her lyrics, just AMAZING. I'm listening to her from the 1980s and NOW with a renewed appreciation.
Never before, I had noticed how attractive and straightforward is Basia. OK this video was made long ago and now she's 69 or so, nevertheless, her way for sure is not changing . I feel relax listening her voice; she has this power in herself.
Hear how she "call response the horn section as she BLENDS 3 part harmony w/the horn"... 😜..oh Lawd then the sistas sing back up? 🤣😂 back her up? yezzz..& this songs base piano got me on alot of house music. those were the days
Check out the live version, her tone and accent is richer, also the whole band is on point: ua-cam.com/video/JwTHPmsW9WY/v-deo.html NB: this is Basia performing with nerves, imagine her at 100%.
I'm a Navy vet. Back in '88 I was stationed on the USS Beaufort and discovered one of Basia's videos on one of the ship's televisions. It was her Promises video. Loved it. Been a fan ever since.
Basia , The greatest female singer I have ever seen in my life .I'm already a 32 year old lady .It has been 15 years that I loved her music since back in middle school ..
I know this is going to sound like grandparents or my parents but she is so talented . My wife and I been married about two years .we seen her in concert at Oakland University in there out door theater best singer I've seen . Thank you

Muito obrigado, Basia Simplicity (actual complexity) positively contributes to the beauty of life. Certainly any measure of vulgarity only detracts from who we can truly be. Thank god for this purity. Muchas gracias Basia.
PURE TALENT!! Basia is with out a doubt the most amazing and underrated voices and musical talents of the last few decades. Talk about something that makes you feel good!!??
She makes me cry every time I listen to her and that is daily! We have our own music club and DJ. I listen to one of her albums every night and have an incredible reaction to her lyrics. She is one of the most incredible artists, ever. I saw her in NYC when I lived there in the 80s. Saw her concert on Broadway and was there for the recording of Sweetest Illusion on Broadway that night in 1994!
Two random fascinating things about Basia during this time. 1) She was already 40, but looked like a teenager. 2) She opens her mouth really wide to pronounce certain syllables. I'm not sure if it's because English is her second language or because she's such a vocal pro that it's part of her technique.
Ok, but first you have to answer a question that only Basis would know the answer to: Which large diaphragm condenser microphone do you use live on on stage to prevent feedback?
@@marcind-ec1de I didn't question her age until I saw old videos of her in a Polish group called Alibabki. It was in the 1970s in black and white, and she was already an adult.

In the sky the this very happy whit basia drunk on love.....and you remember
Looking at this and hearing this song, it is CRAZY that this song wasn't a hit in the US. Insane.

Basia polski Skarb narodowy Słowik Eksportowy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can You imagine Basia, Simply Red, Jamiroquai and Candy Dulfer on one stage? I dream about that kind of festival ❤️
can I add Workshy, Brand New Heavies and Incognito to your bucketlist?
Basia surpasses them all.
It could have happened at a jazz festival.
Half of her band has been in Simply Red at one time or another! The trumpeter in this video still tours with them
Basia was so under-rated. Female singers today cannot come close to being toe-to-toe with her talent and musical expression.
santo10forHOF Exactly! She doesn’t have to parade around onstage half naked. Her talent and voice are her assets.
I agree¡¡¡¡She is an amazing singer¡¡
Underrated now a days maybe. But as I remember it in 1987/88 she took the World By Storm ! She did in NYC That's for sure !
I agree. Plus she wrote all her songs and did all her own backup vocals herself.
I agree¡¡¡She has been one of the best singers of jazz pop in the history of music¡¡Her voice is like the sea:Wonderful¡¡
Basia is a Sade from Poland! Taste this great groove und swimm in her waves ;)
She has a very beautiful voice. Bless Poland. 💕💓💕💓

I had the pleasure of hearing her in San Juan, Puerto Rico years ago...her voice was like a live CD...a wonderful concert.
Hers is one of the most beautifully echoing voices in world music history. The reason is simple: hearing her sing infuses you with great moods!
