I have a question, im currently setting up a 30 gallon dirted aquarium that I plan on having live plants in. I will use a heater,... and eventually, no filter. would a betta be happy in that, or do I NEED the water flow?
can you do some kind of video or something on thermometers. I am about to pull what hair I have left out! LOL I have been in and out of the hobby for probably 30 + years and never gave this much thought. I recently set up a 90 gallon which is largest tank I have ever had. Well 4 thermometers later and all 4 read different temp, which one is accurate??????? Even have an Inkbird controller. Hellllllppppppp!!!!!!!
Hey guys love your videos! So full of information. I have a question, I have a 20 gallon with a few platies and mollies, would I be able to introduce a couple of female bettas? I feel so so bad for these fish in cups and my fish are quite friendly. Just wondering if it possible? I would love to be able to save a couple if I could. Thanks for all the videos and hope you dont stop making them.
jessie walls: it’s not so much about water flow - it’s keeping your tank aerated and the filter helps to “filter”out nasty stuff in the water. Especially in a tank that size. Bettas like calm waters - I have a tidal HOB on my tank and the nice thing is you can control the flow - I keep it really low - and the water in that tank is crystal clear. And I also have live plants. I’m switching to sand. I like the look better and it seems easier to vacuum and keep clean.
So basically I've been blinding, freezing and causing my betta to feel claustrophobic! 12pm and I'm now upgrading him to the presidential 10gal suite. Lol thanks for the tips!
Shaya Bunny (that got sent before I finished) - I made some mistakes with my guppy tank and have had to start over from scratch. Fortunately, my bettas are doing well. That’s why I love the videos John and Lisa put up. They’re so informative, helpful, teaching us what to do and what not to do. I’ve really learned a lot from them. I, too, was blinding my bettas - I didn’t know! But I fixed that problem and they’re happier, as are the little otos in the tank with them. I love it - the “presidential suite”. You really love your betta, and it shows ❤️🐟
I’ve even seen individual personalities in goldfish... but yes, Ne Ne Zilla, you’re right about that with betas... I had one who liked to dance around his bowl while I danced around my room (NOT holding the bowl.. it was safely on a book shelf where even if I fell he would not be in danger of losing water) and my second one who loved watching MythBusters (DVD’s) with my mom and I
Yeah I have two bettas and both have different personalities one is way over frndly and literally takes food from my finger tips but the other one is very shy😂
@@james__anna_burns4885 in the cartoons and artworks goldfish are always in bowls O_o That makes us think it's ok to have them there lol I personally have not, but I can see why some have...
I work at a pet store and it breaks my heart the way they keep them in small, cold cups. The females are the most pathetic cause no one buys them. We had one that looked like she was really old. She lived and died in that small cold cup. I now own 3 females in my community tank and two males in a 5 gallon and 2.5 gallon. I bought them all cause they had been there so long. I wish pet stores would at least keep them in some sort of divided, heated tank instead of ice water. 😢. Oh all tanks are heated, have sponge filters, a cave and plants.
I plan on starting a betta sorority,,, I feel like people dont buy the females as much bc they're "more aggresive" and their fins "arent as pretty",,, I hate going into the pet store sometimes cause I get upset at the conditions they keep the fish in and people kind of brush it off because "they're just fish"
This is how I ended up starting so many sororities. I felt bad for the females and wanted to save them all. Unfortunately in order to start a sorority you need to do alot of research and make sure to always have a back up plan. They're not as easy as they sound and you can't just throw a bunch of females in a tank together. But a successful sorority is amazing.
My friend always made fun of me for giving my tiny betta a ten gallon, couple months later she got a betta and upgraded him to a ten gallon, I swear fish keeping changes your opinion real quick 😂
Imagine people treated dogs the way we treat fish: ‘The Great Dane I bought at the store was in a cage, so he’s a lot better off locked in my closet than he was at the store’
jfdd43: I don’t understand why people don’t grasp that concept. I actually had one guy who thought I was overdoing it bc I have 2 bettas in a 15 G with a divider. He tried to tell me bettas are happier in a smaller tank. I rescued mine from those pet store bowls, they were so happy when they had space, filtration, warm water and live plants they started building bubble nests the very next day. I told him I could survive in a studio apartment but I love living in a house. Same thing.
poopy doody: you’re right, they don’t live on land. They live in rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans where they can swim wherever they want instead of confined to cups and vases, swimming in their own waste.
@@deborahjeanne2141 I have my female elephant ear in a 10 gallon with lots of live plants, heating, driftwood, and a sponge filter! Her only friends are ramhorn snails because she wasn't a fan of neon tetras after they were in there for over a month. The tetras are in my 20 gallon now.
This is the first video I've seen that specifically focuses on the fish's happiness. Thank you for that. Everyone else seems to think fish are just decorations.
Put a plastic ball in the tank and it will play with it :3 my betta loves its little green ball he plays with it everytime! Also I think my betta is a dog :o
"Bettas are sensitive little things." Yeah. My betta wont eat if he feels I have gotten up too early to get ready for school in the morning and I have to feed him early because we have to leave the house at about six for school and I'm not getting up then over winter break 🤣 and apparently fish can sulk..so yeah...
I have the problem of trying to teach my betta that frozen blood worms is food. As well as mosquito larvea. While the other fish and even shrimp get excited for such food.
@@vikenemma2953 Really? 😂 ill put my finger in my bettas tank to make sure the water isnt to cold or to fix his hammock and he always goes up with that look in his eyes that he wants to eat me 😂
@@vikenemma2953 that happend with my first betta, I had 2 others and now my 3rd betta, but never tried giving them blood worms. My current betta eats and is very active so I might try blood worms again.
My betta is THRIVING in his 80L tank! It has live plants, a filter, a heater, lots of hides and two snails. I've also given him catappa leaves to make the water better for him :)
@@ARCHIVED9610 theres no tank thats too big lol. My betta is in a 20 gallon (70L) tank by himself en he uses all the space and he looks very healthy and happy
For number 9 (dimming the light) if your light is too bright, you can tape a piece of paper on it and it will make it less bright. You can also put different colored paper.
Do. It. Seriously. Thanks to the internets, I am now a much better fish momma since my first tank. I fed actual sturgeon caviar to my first betta (spoiler - he died).
The tip about bright lights is so true. My baby used to hide all day, and when I decided to switch his light off to let him heal from ripped fins, I’ve noticed he comes out and explores his tank a lot more
Dude at least those betas are happy for a few days when my betta was in his tank straight out of a microscopic cup he was barly active now he has 3 friends in a 10 gallon sitting at about 78° and slow curremt and all my fish arnt territorial they just swim around enjoying life
I love bettas. While I was aware of most of these tips to keep my bettas happy, I did not know about bright lights making them unhappy. Thank you so much for that important piece of information. I’m in the process of setting up a new 20G long with 2 dividers so I can have 3 more bettas. Glad I waited on lights. Will buy the Fluval LED 3.0 with adjustable brightness and timing, and will buy the same for my existing betta tank.
Floating plants will help, too! I have red root floaters and they provide a lot of shade. Because they can get unruly, I thin them out once a month or so. To provide shade while the floaters grow back, I also have a gorgeous tiger lotus. The big leaves are great for shade and resting spots. My betta also has a floaty log and swords to hide in when he needs a break.
I’d noticed bettas don’t like light, I think it’s because when you’re in a brightly lit aquarium in a dimly lit room the walls of the aquarium become a giant mirror and your male betta will see an aggressive male betta trying to get into his territory all the time which stresses him out.
i have 1 spoiled male betta who is literally the light in my life, he has snail buds, and a 10 gallon and live plants. and he has a bunch of tiny deformities and he's just so cute I love him so much
My Mr. Stud Muffin is also the light of MY life! Never in the world did I ever think I could fall in love with this little fella. He makes me laugh every day, especially when he shows off in front of the mirror and does the MJ moonwalk!!!!
I will say, I got my betta from my sister since she wasn’t really caring for him. It was incredible to see him discover that he went from being in a 3 gallon to a 10 gallon tank and that he had so much space to explore, especially since I made him a naturalistic enclosure. He’s regained so much Of his color from before and he’s clearly very happy.
They’re such beautiful creatures & so peaceful, I enjoy everyday I come home to mine. Thank you for giving yours a home they can truly enjoy and thrive in ❤
My male Betta halfmoon lives with 7 harlequin, 2 snails, 1 ghost shrimp in a 20 gallon. He actual got more active and his personality came out more after his tank mates were added. He loves to "ride" the water flow with the Harlequin! His main territories are the filters and dense low lying plants.
I'm not a betta owner but if I decided I wanted one I can reference this. I'll agree with everyone I love these 10 things vids awesome job guys can't get enough wish you did vids everyday I would definitely watch after work thanks again
I think everyone's experiences are different, and it, also, depends upon where they live and where they get their Betta. I'm 50. Have had Betta off and on ever since I was 16. They have always lived in a 2-3 gallon tank and have never had a heater. Every one of them lived a healthy, happy life over 2 years. Some liked snails, others .. well .. ate the snails. They all liked swimming on whatever side of the tank I was sitting, and I would talk to them like anyone would speak to a dog or cat. I've had real plants and cleaned the water once a month with filtered water. I never ever used an overhead light. The room was always bright enough and always between 70-73 degrees. Every Betta I've had was the one in the worst condition in the pet store, and every one became brightly colored and happy after I cared for them. My favorite was Blue. He was .. yes, blue. I had him for over 3 years. I had to take a trip on a plane and would be gone for two months. My neighbor said he would watch him for me. I was only going to be gone for two months, so it should have been no big deal, right? This guy had a lot of aquariums, salt and fresh, so I thought he knew what he was doing. Within the first month I was gone, Blue died. Why? DA put him in a bigger tank than the 3 gallon, installed a heater and overhead light, and only cleaned 1/4 of the water -- which was every week. For Blue, this was extremely harsh and put him in shock. From what my neighbor's wife told me (because he was lying the whole time), he basically cooked my fish. All he did after I left was complain about how terrible I had treated Blue for not giving him a heater or light or water conditions ... yadda, yadda, yadda. She told him not to make such changes. It was a 3 year old fish that was used to living a certain way and was very happy. She said that within the first two weeks after I left, Blue's fins began to shed, his color became dull and to the point of being grey when he died, and he basically floated rather than swam. He was dead the third week. Her husband told me he died because he was just old and missed me. I would have believed that had it not been for all of the BS he did to Blue. I've had Bettas since then and they've lived for close to 3 years, but me and Blue just had this thing I can't explain. I love all of my animals, but as fish go, Blue was the greatest ever. I think when we try too hard, we can love them to death. Not all need what the pet stores tell you. Give them room to swim and grow, don't blast a light in their eyes, fresh plants, and a room that is at least over 70. Not close to any vents, also. And it matters a lot where you get them. Just try your best to keep them in the environment they are used to if it was healthy and thriving. If it's used to 76 degrees, keep it 76 degrees. If it's used to 3 gallons, keep it 3 gallons. If it's used to filtered water every month, don't change it once a week and don't just change a little at a time. But if it's used to only a little at a time once a week and it thrives that way, keep it that way. Just like people, there is no cookie-cutter method to being healthy. Pay attention and do what makes them happy.
I’ve kept betta my whole life. I’ve put the most effort I ever have into my current one, and started two bigger tropical tanks after a few weeks of falling down this rabbit hole. It’s honestly super rewarding. My freshly cycled 30 gallon is currently housing some super red cherry shrimp and some plant stowaway albino corydora fry! Waiting for the fry to get bigger so I can add a school of embers and find a centerpiece fish that won’t eat my shrimp.
My boy is always so happy! My betta hates the light. I remember when I first got him I turned on the light and he hated it so I took it off. He thanked me! Such an active boy doesn’t like hides either. He loves being with me all the time. 3 years old going strong. Such a good boy! ❤️🐠🐟 depends on your fish personality if they are good with tank mates. My boy has a loach as his friend. 😊 while my old betta killed anything he had in his tank.
Rudy's World hehe they really do have such varied personalities. My lil boy really likes both light and dark. He has a planted tank with natural driftwood but he's always out exploring and saying hi to people :D
My betta is still getting used to the new area. I got him a month ago and even made a birthday for him! It’s March 3rd. I think he would love a ball. But he would be shy. He is very shy.
Another thing you can do to help with the flow and HOB filters is lower the water level 3-4 mm below the return _just_ enough so it makes a little waterfall. If the water level is right at the top (the way I prefer it in my other tanks) the surface water moves too much, and that's where they need to feel comfortable, to breathe and hang out.
I just got my first Betta from a free craigslist ad. He had been living in an unheated, unfiltered, one gallon bowl since Christmas and didn't look great. I had put together a planted Fluval Flex 9 with half a dozen neocaridina but I wasn't sure to stock it with as far as fish so I have the betta in there now. It was amazing to see him go from a depressed, stationary fish to a super active, playful killing machine. He had an expensive snack on a couple shrimp on the first day but now they seem to have learned and don't stray far from their cave. It seems like he only tries to attack them when they swim. Anyway, he's a pretty awesome fish and has way more personality than I expected.
I've been learning so much from your videos! I'm currently cycling my tank ready to get my first betta (and first fish since childhood), I've learned so much from multiple sources over the last few weeks but your channel has definitely become my favourite. Your content is thorough yet easy to follow and understand - thank you!
I got a crazy deal on a cave decoration but it was loaded with sharp edges on the underside. I found an amazing solution: I used my Dremel with a sanding bit and smoothed down every edge in a few minutes. Super easy and effective!
I went to petco and they had a beautiful betta!!! It was 20 dollar and her color was gorgeous 😍 was so tempted but I don’t have an aquarium set up yet!
I am so glad I found this channel a few months ago when I dove into getting an aquarium I’m happy to say as of today I now have 2 aquariums going and one is a betta tank thank you so much for all the tips for beginning fish keepers
I've found that for tank mates it's better to keep them with quite dull fish, browns and darker colours. In my experience I've noticed that some of the more territorial bettas will display at and attack particularly colourful tankmates such as neon tetras and especially guppies. They mistake bright fish for rivals so to play it safe I keep my more sassy bettas with more neutral toned fish.
It depends on the individual betta tho. I owned a betta with some neon tetras in a tank, and he was super chill with them. I suggest getting a bigger tank as well as taking into account that fish have personalitys that vary greatly, so be careful. Happy tanking!
Thanks for the tips, especially about the lighting as I could not find a clear explanation anywhere else. It would also be great get some more detailed tips about safe hiding spot decor for their delicate fins.
Real plants is a great way to go, the fake plastic ones can cut their fins. You can also have a pothos rooted in the tank, or a sweet potato. They love the soft roots 🌱☺️
@@kennethfung3618 I know they can't, it was sarcasm. The house I used to live in had no insolation and a bad landlord, so I wasn't used to comfortable temperature. My old job wasn't better so at least I didn't have to acclimate.
While looking for a new hobby, I got into aquariums and fish. I find your channel very informative and amazing. Based on what I heard, I believe we didn’t do terrible growing out bettas back in the day, now I’m staring a sorority
My dad said that to me because I have my tank next to the window. He said the light will heat up the water. My tank gets partial light. My mom made him buy me a heater
I'm planning on getting a betta for my dorm room since fish are the one pet we're allowed to have, and although I won't be getting one for at least a month or two, I've been preparing myself by watching so many informational videos like these
0:48 Even if you are comfortable it is no comparison! Humans and all mammals are warm blooded meaning (among other things)that they can keep their body temperature! Fish on the other hand are coldblooded meaning that they depend on the water around them to keep them warm and/or cold!
Wow~ another GREAT video and I sure needed THIS 1. I've known for years what a Betta is- but THAT is ALL I knew! Imagine my surprise at EVERY thing that Bettas need to be comfortable + happy! I am SO happy that you made THIS video, besides ALL of your other ones, because I recently found myself wanting a Betta! Sure glad that I watched this video--THANK YOU! Now I have a better handle on what to do. I plan on having a "planted" aquarium, a heater, small light that I can dim, nice community fish that will get along with the Betta, and good food! I do have 1 questions tho-- what are " tanins" When I think of that word, I think of "dyeing boots" Once again- THANK YOU! I have learned SO much about so many different things having to do with fish--- and.... I always TAKE NOTES! 👍
Great tips, though I really wish you would have said no plastic plants for bettas, as they can tear their fins easily. Silk is best if you can't afford/care for live. I have a grumpy male betta who despises light because the poor thing was stuck in a tiny cup 1/4 filled with water on a Walmart shelf until he was over a year old. He'd hide whenever I turned the light on. He's now the ruler of his own 10 gallon kingdom, has so many plants that hardly any light gets through, and treats the two snails like his minions. I adore him, and he'll always be spoiled rotten.
my betta is a lot more happy after i got a heater to heat the aquarium up a bit. i was using a thermometer and there was a little green area at it thats was between 20-30 degrees celcius. we thought that as long as its within that green area its fine. but you guys thought me that its not. so now i have a heater and my aquarium is set at 26.7 degrees celcius and my betta is happy! BIG THANKS!
Our betta has a full spectrum light in his tank but the live plants in there create nice shade for him, and the regular pruning of the plants changes up his swimming paths over time.
i had to teach myself not to look at the betta at night because he looks very dead when he's sleeping, even though he's actually quite healthy. it just gives me a scare when i see him at night and he just floating motionless and then in the morning he fine.
Lol omg that happened to me! I’ve only had a betta for 1 week but I didn’t know that’s how they slept and it kept freaking me out until I looked it up 😂
Perfect subject to start to renaissance of 10 Things! Loved it all, only suggestion is I would have qualified the tank mates thing, emphasizing it depends on 1) the betta's personality & 2) tank size. I know that you went right into tank size after that, but lately I've been seeing some really crazy stocking choices & densities in betta tanks that are tiny and inadequate even for a single species included in them, much less in combination with others. But sounds like that will be covered in the next video, 10 Things of Best Betta Tankmates? I really hope that those who need to see it, tune it! Thanks again Lisa & John! And great guest spot with Joanna!
I just got my betta yesterday, he is in a 40 gallon with live plants and amazing hardscape(if I say so myself😂) low flowing filter, very little light and 82 degree water. He wasn’t the “prettiest” fish but he’s turning purple and his fins are starting to separate again. It’s a amazing how fast things can change when they are properly taken care of!!
@@adminaquatics5668 I have extra albino corydoras. I was thinking of some small fish. Maybe Norman Lampeye Killifish. I will have to see which fish do not nip fins.
K so it’s my first beta fish and I started off with a 5 gallon, filtered, heated, dim, fresh plant tank. I didn’t see any vids or tips before getting my fish but I just figured bigger and better is the way to go 😁 Now I gotta go get some shrimps! I’m so happy I’m on the right track and this video was a huge help.
I hope my usual pet store has some frozen or live treats for my betta, It's almost a year that I have had Rocket and I would love to get him a birthday surprise. Will be looking for brine shrimp.
I love bettas so much. My white betta Pearl died from a heater malfunction (went up to 140!!!! Terrible day), so I went out to get a really sick looking one so his death could lead to another fish’s second chance. I got one that was supposed to be a black orchid, but he was completely gray, barely moving, and his fins were frayed. His spine looked funny too. Now it’s week two and he really is black and green!!! And so much more active!! It’s amazing how these fish can bounce back, and I’m no expert so it wasn’t that hard!
The shop where I got my betta had him in a plastic drinking cup half full. I bought him out of pity then went home and put him in a bigger bowl. Then I looked up right away what he needed and now he lives like a king... but another pet store I visited had a huge sorority tank and the males are in gallon bowls with heat and seem really well cared for.
Great channel! I’ve always loved betta’s and feel so sad when I see them in little, plastic containers at the store 🥺 This channel is so informative for us new beta keepers 🥰 Thank you!
I recently got a Betta, and living in Southern California, it's super easy to keep the tank a good temperature without a heater. I might need one in winter, but it's not even peak heat right now, and my tank sits around 81 degrees. My bedroom, where the fish is, gets warm. It's a small room, and I spend most of my time in there, with electronics in that warm it up. It rarely gets below 75 in there, and in summer, gets into the 80s
No 6 depends on the specific betta. Some of them are more chilled than the others. I have two and one couldn't even be held with a snail as he was getting after it too much, the other one doesn't seem to be bothered. I'd say to be very careful with adding tank mates.
I bought a betta fish but this was the most fearless betta I saw.....he doesn't get scare of anyone not even my pet kitty....if anyone goes near the tank.....he just loves it.....btw very nice and informative content ❤️
My betta is in a 10 gallon heated tank and thriving! Every time I walk in my room I look and say “what’s up enchilada?!” (That’s his name) and he swims around in circles in front of wherever I am by the tank😂Love his personality!
I LOVE my Betta. He is a beautiful half moon and I try my best to make him happy. He lives in a ten gallon tank he has 2 snail friends (cory cats on the way) we play with toys give him great places to nap away from the filter. He even will rest on the heater right next to the filter. I think he is happy and we love him 🥰
Hiding spots are key having multiple male bettas in a take. Also the size of the tank. About 15-20gal per male. They are territorial, as long as the have a cave/hiding spot to call their own, they get along just fine. A third thing, to have 2/3 females per male. Was an absolutely gorgeous tank with live plants and guppies. The bettas didn’t breed, but had a never ending supply of guppies lol
My Betta has been living alone in a 3 gallon tank I thought it was pretty roomy for him but I really want to upgrade now and get him some little tank friends☹️
Kelsey noo i don't think not all bettas like them...they make them stressful..my betta was stressful when i added community fish so i know..but u can try if u want
I started out wanting a gallon bowl "tank" and a betta for me and my kid. Luckily researched 1st. Came across KGTropicals vids. I wanted a 5g but got a 10g (cheap) I put in plants cycled then put in neon tetras, then my betta, then Otocinclus, then 2 mollies. All small, all doing well. No fighting. My kid loves to watch them. Me too. You can do it. Something about adding a plant each add or changing the tank around a little so the terrain seems different. It's everyone's territory.
Loved this video. I've been reading up o n bettas and am so sad at the misinformation out there about bettas. I thought they were extremely low maintenance and liked tiny spaces.
I appreciate you dispelling some of the rumors about Bettas. So many of these oldschool beliefs about them still persist today and it drives me nuts. Especially the tank size thing. "oh it came from a cup, what does it need a huge tank for?" Well the same reason you don't live in a storage unit!
I know my grandma had a betta in a potted plant with barely any room to move. J had the feeling it was bad at the time but I didn’t understand the extent of how awful it was. I would have told her and she would’ve bought the right thing she just didn’t know. Planning on spending 130 and getting all the essentials tomorrow and running the gallon with my 10 gallon sponge filter and some filter media for the back mount a few days before I pick my betta up. They’re beautiful I’m looking forward to spoiling one and having some tetra friend with it. My 55 gallon tank is looking gorgeous it went through a couple years of semi neglect and my cats death has lit a passionate fish keeping fire under me😂. I’m a horticulturist so I’m really looking forward to getting more into that as well. Only problem is I’m sure I’m going to have a bunch of tanks😂😂😂
Woah. I was watching this with my beta fish looking sad and not moving next to me. When it said they don’t like light I turned their light off and they started zooming around 😃👍 thank you so much 😊
10. Yup 9. I only have the light on for 6-8 hours and I have water lettace 8. I use to do that, but then I got snails (like harder water) so I stopped, but I don't have those anymore so I wanna start doing it again. 7. Ooo I need to do this. I think there's frozen brine shrimp at the store I get my frozen mice at. 6.. My betta liked the neon tetras for a few weeks, then she started to show signs of stress, so I put them in my 20 gallon again. Maybe I'll put them back when her plants grow out more. 5. She's in a 10 gallons 4. Yup! I have 5 different types of live plants in her tank. 3.. Nope, just smooth rocks and a piece of driftwood. 2. I just have a sponge filter 1. Yup, she has lots of plants! 😊
I've kept my dumbo ear ohm betta💜 (almost adult), Boysen😃, in 8 gallon tank💫..I've focused on decorating my tank🌼 rather than dumping fishes🐬. I've also added snails🐌 as his tank mates. He is too aggressive🤦 to add neon tetras🐟 as his tank mates. Added live plants 🌱,heater🏝 and sponge filter🌅. Hope Boysen is happy ❤
I had a betta for 5 years , 6 gal , Heater , Filter , Natural plants and rocks that are ok for aquariums , place that have less light , no light at night , good food .
My roommates and I rescued a sorority of betta fish, they’re healing up from fin rot in a 20 gal nursing tank with dividers so they don’t stress each other out. Eztli, Itztli, Meztli and Tozi are super active and hungry now! Might be time to place them in the planted aquarium we’ve been growing. I don’t like keeping sororities though, might split them up for good if any issues arise.
I've had one male betta. Just got a female since my male died. She's the prettiest girl I've ever seen. 💗 she loved her brine shrimp. You are absolutely right, female bettas have such personality
Okay, I'm upgrading everything for my Betta. AND getting him some fishy friends. Update: I did just that. New tank for my Betta, AND a few Tetras, Molly's, neons, 3 snails.
I have a Galaxy Hmpk in a 60l with a 1000lph canister filter. Heavily planted with hardscape produces deadzones from flow but he likes to surf the flow. NOT suggested for long finned varieties unless you ramp the flow up over months!

jessie walls: it’s not so much about water flow - it’s keeping your tank aerated and the filter helps to “filter”out nasty stuff in the water.

I'm so glad to hear the video helped you and your betta 🙂 that's what these videos are about. I hope he lives a long, healthy and happy life!
Saaaame, I have every thing set and it just needs to be cycled
Shaya Bunny: wow, you’re being so harsh on yourself! I had bettas many years ago and last Fall got back into fish again. Everything has changed
You really love your betta, and it shows ❤️🐟
The best fish I have ever had, hands down. Their individual personalities and interaction make them a great pet.

I wish pet stores would treat those poor Bettas with more kindness and only stock as many as they can keep in five gallon tanks. Thank you, Michelle.
God bless you.
Michelle P I have a female beta too... for the same reasons. She’s very Social and likes her tetra friends
"Let's give him ONE toy for the rest of his life."
jfdd43: I don’t understand why people don’t grasp that concept. Same thing.
Nononono fish don’t live on land so we cannot let them live freely
poopy doody: you’re right, they don’t live on land.

In Sweden bettas are never sold in little cups in the store. They are always in big tanks with heaters and filters and with other fish.
you also give somalian same treatments and thats why they all are flocking to sweden. Protect your country before it is too late.

@@lisamariefoye2853 I’ve been wondering about adding floaters, but I’m worried because wouldn’t they block out the light of my other plants?
I’d noticed bettas don’t like light, I think it’s because when you’re in a brightly lit aquarium in a dimly lit room the walls of the aquarium become a giant mirror and your male betta will see an aggressive male betta trying to get into his territory all the time which stresses him out.
Yeah mine would attack his reflection
Same, mine always fights with his own reflection

I will say, I got my betta from my sister since she wasn’t really caring for him. It was incredible to see him discover that he went from being in a 3 gallon to a 10 gallon tank and that he had so much space to explore, especially since I made him a naturalistic enclosure. He’s regained so much
Of his color from before and he’s clearly very happy.

My male Betta halfmoon lives with 7 harlequin, 2 snails, 1 ghost shrimp in a 20 gallon. He actual got more active and his personality came out more after his tank mates were added. He loves to "ride" the water flow with the Harlequin! His main territories are the filters and dense low lying plants.

not a betta owner? well ok u do u but ur missing out BIG TIME. Bettas are the best.
I’ve been blinding my poor fish for over a year! And here I thought I was doing good because he’s still so healthy! My poor baby... 😭

I got mine yesterday, and it took me a month to prepare everything before buying him and absolutely he hate direct light in his tank the most. 😅
I love how you've added The Office clips in between. That's my favourite show ever :)
I really do love my betta, I feel crazy sometimes! I love to sit and just watch him and talk to him, my kids think I’m nuts but he’s our baby 💗
I just got my beta last Thursday. I talk to him too. I’m new to this. His name is Faithen. He’s my pride and joy ❤😊
Great topic! I'm planning on getting a betta soon... Had my notebook out taking notes!
me too!
Wow I never really thought about it but this makes sense!!! Thanks for the tip

I've only been a betta parent for 2wks and the sleeping freaks me out to. My daughter named him periwinkle. Peri knows when its time to eat🤣

Thank God I watched this video ! I turned off his light and he came out of from hiding by the filter.
I've found that if the tank mates are added to the tank before the Betta knows it as their territory, it goes a lot smoother.
I bought a betta fish but this was the most fearless betta I saw.....he doesn't get scare of anyone not even my pet kitty....if anyone goes near the tank.....he just loves it.....btw very nice and informative content ❤️
Definitely using this for reference while I set up my new divided 20 gallon. I have four rescues that were in less than a gallon each 😒
My betta is in a 10 gallon heated tank and thriving! Every time I walk in my room I look and say “what’s up enchilada?!” (That’s his name) and he swims around in circles in front of wherever I am by the tank😂Love his personality!
My Betta likes the filter🤷🏻♀️ he keeps going up to the top and loves it. But I am going to try the little sponge to see how it helps him
I don’t understand how to use the sponge? Can you help me?
I think he does that cause they have to go to the top of the tank for oxygen
I LOVE my Betta. He is a beautiful half moon and I try my best to make him happy. He lives in a ten gallon tank he has 2 snail friends (cory cats on the way) we play with toys give him great places to nap away from the filter. He even will rest on the heater right next to the filter. I think he is happy and we love him 🥰
Thanks for the great Betta primer !
Jim
Kesley O. DON’T DO IT THEY CAN FIGHT AND DIE!!!
Monkey Doo did you even watch the video....
you can totally add tank mates, you just need to be very careful.
It's everyone's territory.
whoever edited this video, i love you
Loved this video.
I saw a video yesterday petco has the globetta in store. I don’t know what to think about it yet. Very good video learned some new stuff for my betta.
Thanks for the video my daughter wanted a betta from Petco and we simply had to save at least one from that tiny chip dip cup they had them in
Woah. I was watching this with my beta fish looking sad and not moving next to me. When it said they don’t like light I turned their light off and they started zooming around 😃👍 thank you so much 😊
My betta was tearing up his fins until I got him a pair of nerites and his fins have been doing so much better!
I feel like mine would insta kill anything living with him
10. Yup
9. I only have the light on for 6-8 hours and I have water lettace
5. She's in a 10 gallons
4. Yup! I have 5 different types of live plants in her tank.
3.. Nope, just smooth rocks and a piece of driftwood.
2. I just have a sponge filter
1. Yup, she has lots of plants! 😊
6:18 don't trust Fred durst.
Tannins, frozen brine shrimp, live plants, proper water flow (calm waters), hiding spaces.. I'm going to do these! Thanks!
Can you do a video on best fish tank brands? I’m looking for a bigger tank for my platy fish.
Hope Boysen is happy ❤
why I'm here?
just got my first male betta😁
Same!!👏
SAMMMMEE 😀
Sameeee
Same got one to for my birthday I had one Before I look back at how I kept him in just a bowl and I cringe
same
I had a betta for 5 years , 6 gal , Heater , Filter , Natural plants and rocks that are ok for aquariums , place that have less light , no light at night , good food .
Gonna be getting a 29 gallon tank (originally a 6 gal for just a betta) so now I’ll have lots of room for a betta and more friends for them.
Great video. Looking forward to the top ten betta tankmates video.
It's still in the idea stage but we're working on it😎
I've had one male betta.
How's it going?
@@RamaNasikkarAll fish are doing great. Betta is looking better than ever.
Thanks for asking.
@@amandahood7809 Hope all of your fish and you thrive!
that sounds awesome! thanks for doing this
I have a Galaxy Hmpk in a 60l with a 1000lph canister filter. Heavily planted with hardscape produces deadzones from flow but he likes to surf the flow. NOT suggested for long finned varieties unless you ramp the flow up over months!
