  • Episode #780 Today, we're going over 5 more mistakes that sign carvers make. We've all done them, (except maybe for dad) but if you can learn from our mistakes, that's better than just making some nice looking firewood.

    Hey guys thanks for this video. I watched another carver use a torch to burn the paint to help dry it quickly to sand. Be careful to keep your flammable cans away if you plan to try this. I plan to try this my self.

      Thanks David! I don't think that's something I'd try. But, the primer we use only takes about 5 minutes to dry so that probably makes a difference.

    I've made all these mistakes! But I'm learnin'. Maybe, if you haven't done it yet, mention in one of your videos about router speed. I was getting tear out on a sign yesterday, but when I turned up the router speed, it stopped that. Thanks for the videos.

      Glad you liked the video. Yeah we're all still learning, just at different levels. I haven't mentioned it in a while, but I always run my routers at full speed when I'm cutting any kind of wood. Thank you for reminding me, I will add this to the list for a future video.

    Hi guys. Thanks for the video. I have a question. On larger artwork carving. How do you decide on inset/outset and what are the reasons? Thanks.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  Рік тому

      Well, the best way is to try it both ways. That's what we usually do with our stencils. After a while, you kind of get an eye for it, but you never truly know unless you try it. But that's a great subject for a video! Maybe we'll do one on that subject.

    I I'm a beginner never done this before I want to know what router and base I need

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  Рік тому

      We like trim routers best for carving signs. Our favorites are DeWalt, Craftsman, Kobalt, and Milwaukee. Whichever one you have just let us know and we can send you a link for the base to fit the router you have. My direct email is eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thanks for watching,
