This song makes me feel like an old weary warrior, heading into my last battle. Like I’m so stoic and I’ve seen it all and I’m ready to die but there’s still a tiny spark inside of me, a spark of resilience. Like I can still allow myself to mock my enemy because I’m a fucking legend. Man, I need to get a life. A magnificent song though!

To me, this song is about standing up to peer pressure and conformity. The lines "ghost horses" imply that it's not a physical battle, but one taking place inside the person's thoughts. They resisting the negativity, tyranny, and propanganda the world around them promotes, even if they're alone in this fight. They know they're actions can inspire others to resist.
1:47 takes this song up a whole new level. Little moments like that are further proof of how great of an album amnesiac

Thom is a politically active guy. This is about government. "You and your cronies" echoes of government cronyism. "Holy Roman Empire" paints a picture of a bloated, crumbling empire. "Come on if you think you can take us on" and "You forget so easily" reflects the idea/potential of revolution.
This whole album reminds me of Ghosts from Nine Inch Nails.
Listening to this on DMT is other worldly.
This song makes me think about the world, and how fucked up it is. Gets me wondering what the purpose of humanity is on earth. why are we here? to die? So many questions and so little real answers.

I wondered what the purpose of humanity is on earth and I have decided it's to look after the planet and all the other species on it (considering we are fucking up the environment and facing mass extinction). In the UK when I grew up we had playground chants similar to this - “Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough - we’ll take you all on - well take on the Holy Roman Empire - etc”.
So I guess it’s a song about fighting, human violence and it’s roots in the school playground. I’m not sure what ghost horses refers to, perhaps these carry us into wars?
