I'm not sure about the greatest or the most talented (there are LOTS of amazing musicians!), but he is my favorite and top 1, I love everything he does: Radiohead, AFP, The Smile, his solo works
He is a freemason so he is using Jewish mysticism, or black magic, which is in the kabalah at the heart of freemasonry. So, magic, yes. He exchanges a masonic handshake with Ross every time he appears on the show.
This. This is where my love for music began. 10 years later and I am still listening to this. I’m 20 that’s half my life listening to this beautiful rendition of an absolute masterpiece
Came here after the YouNow today... Music is meant to be enjoyed, no matter what individual or what circumstance brought you to the piece. Appreciating a beautiful masterpiece is not a crime.
this comment needs a lot more appreciation. really sad that even though some of these comments are years old, they're still awfully negative and at the top of the comments despite that.
I know that most people who watch this are mesmerized by Thom's voice and playing (and they should be), but props must be given to the cameramen, sound engineers, lighting people, the producers of the Jonathan Ross Show, and whoever else helped contribute to this beautiful piece.
Good call. Ive never looked at anything but Thom and the piano. Ross and the production crew contributed heavily to one of my very favorite pieces of music ever

This version is absolutely brilliant. For me much better than the album version - you really hear the lyrics more. And for all those saying he has an average voice, are you serious? His voice is fucking sublime.
It's like night and day. This acoustic piano version has so much emotion and subtlety. The 'experimental' electronic version on the album is just a cluster-F of chaotic noise.

I saw this video as it was broadcast by pure chance but it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard. Complete transformation from the original version.
Factoid: Thom thinks his piano playing skills are crap, but while some of his playing is rather 'simplistic', he is able to bang out some stunning and timeless melodies. That's right, you don't need to be Beethoven to write a good song.

Man I just keep coming back to this one over and over and over. I've loved Thom (and Radiohead) for years and I honestly feel like this is his best performance of anything ever.
Danyal Elia I'm more of an In Rainbows, Hail to the Thief, OK Computer kind of guy. While I do think they're still great, and heads and tails above most bands out there, I'm not a huge fan of their current electronic style present in King of Limbs and AMOK (and The Eraser for the most part too). They can innovate and stuff, but I don't want them to stray too far from the rock element in their songs. With that said, this rendition of "Ingenue" (my favourite track off AMOK) is fokn' amazing.

I have to admit there are still two or three songs in the first half of the album that I don't "love" but the rest are just very, very good.
Arguments and insults will forever exist on UA-cam comments... Oh we'll, meanwhile, I'd like to comment on how great thom yorke covers thom yorke. Brilliant. This song is beautiful and sublime And would be even if it was played on tin cans.

One of the best live vocal performances I have ever heard from Thom Yorke. It shows that when he concentrates on singing rather than dancing he is still next level.
It's easy to assume this song is about a female person in Thom's life, (dandelions instantly make me imagine a child) but what if he's referring to another side of his own personality? What if he's comparing these sides of himself to illustrate just how he ends up in given situations for better or worse? The song itself looks at this 'ingenue' character so fondly, despite its whimsical nature... lovingly, and admiring the beauty of it. The music video for it shows this purposefully as well-two halves of a whole dancing *almost* in unison, who follows who? The chorus lyrics of this song are, in my opinion, some of the best lyrics Thom has ever written. 'Move through the moment, though it betrays' is so powerful... it's dancing, it's walking through a hallway.. it's smiling at a social event while your mind is elsewhere. I feel like Prince would have loved this song, as he always made the female characters in his songs the more decisive and in control forces. It's such an elegant reflection on life, and his metaphors are so incredibly potent here-placed behind such an original melody and structure, it elevates itself in my mind to genuine greatness. Thom's raw, emotional sincerity only augments the meaning here, through acceptance and being OKAY with it all. To me, this song is about admiring the part of yourself that can give up the past, force you to go forward and leave the rest behind; nothing lasts forever, come what may... we have to keep moving. It's pure poetry.. just my 2¢
I love your interpretation but I also think maybe he is saying you let these people in and out of your life, and even though you thought you knew yourself so well in the end people change you. You are constantly evolving. And he's telling himself that's ok. This song really shows thom's self awareness and level of emotional intelligence. it's brilliant and my favorite song of all time. I prefer the album version though those synths just do something to me.
+Marleni Resendiz it really annoys me that people are fussing over who sent who here. Why does it even matter? I'm here just trying to listen to a song. Geshhh
Thom has given us so much in his lifetime, much more than I think he realizes. Our only curse is knowing there is no measure of gratitude great enough to thank him. All we can do is preserve the beautiful legacy to which he has carved himself.
I don't know who Dan is, but if he made a video that caused people to seek out Thom Yorke then I support him. I don't know why so many Radiohead/ Thom York fans are being dicks about this. So what if Dan fans came because of him? Why the fuck does it bother you? More Thom Yorke fans = good.

I’ve run out of words to express my awe every single time this man transforms his own most eclectic songs into something like this. Every time I’m blown away like dandelion seeds.
i keep coming back to this video a lot, especially when i feel sick and sad. sometimes i feel better after hearing thom sing, maybe it's a placebo but i genuinely do feel better after
Friends, we have all been brought to this beautiful music by different people, groups and reasons. Why can't we just live together in harmony? Listen, if you're a radio head, that's cool, if you're a Phan, then welcome. It's not like we aren't less of a viewer or person than you are. We like the song. We recognize Thom for performing it. We are not trying to dishonor him or give all the credit to Dan, but it is he who spread word to us that this existed.
Actually, the anthem of the Phandom is now, again, Toxic by Britney Spears. They danced to it IN AN OFFICIAL VIDEO OFFICIALLY OMFG!!!!!! Sorry, my pheels exploded.. Anyway, Thinking Out Loud is still kind of an unoffical Phandom anthem now... Yeah

Thom is able to dance around our current barrier in understanding oursleves and our limits of perception. He is delivering the bleeding edge of being able to vocalise the end of our ability to describe the daunting task of admitting to ourselves we know absolutely nothing and to just listen again.
Is this seriously not one of the most beautiful sounds ever? Blows me away every time. I don't plan to die any time soon, but I want THIS version of THIS song at my funeral.
The greatest musician of our time. Nothing gets even close to the sophistication he is able to pull in the notes he plays.
I'm not sure about the greatest or the most talented (there are LOTS of amazing musicians!), but he is my favorite and top 1, I love everything he does: Radiohead, AFP, The Smile, his solo works
Probably top 5 for sure.
lol that's not true obviously but he's great in his own right, same as any other musician
@macaroon147 it is true. What a writer. What a voice
Thom Yorke & Damon Albarn are without any doubt in the top 5 of the last 20 years

This version is in the top 5 songs that make me cry due to its beauty and honesty and boy o boy it does hit me in the feels indeed ...
Yeah it’s easier to look over how pretty the song is in the other version
I haven't found any sheet music that's the same as the studio version to match the synth lead(?). That version hits the hardest for me.
I want to hear the ENTIRE album on piano. PLEASE.
That would be nice. Or just the Electric Lady studios versions on Vinyl/CD

I'm coming just to say that ingenue it's at this version timeless unique piece of music. light for the soul.

One of the most beautiful pieces ever composed.
I'm in love with this song.
Man I almost forgot about this song. One of my all time favourites. Yorke is absolutely amazing.
Is this seriously not one of the most beautiful sounds ever? Blows me away every time. I don't plan to die any time soon, but I want THIS version of THIS song at my funeral.
The way he says “Thanks” at the end.
This song gives me goosebumps, it's amazing
