I've been having my Formentor VZx here in Australia for 3 months and loving every minute of driving it. Coming from a string of previous Audis, I don't think I am every going back to the four rings, now that the Tavascan is coming down under too!
Wow, that interior is fantastic - like chalk and cheese compared to the Tesla Y. It should also be priced competitively if Cupra follows the lead of its models now being sold in Australia.
The federal government has already started working towards our first fuel-efficient and EVs incentives scheme, which would definitely help those perfect cars come to Australia a lot earlier than nowadays.
This should be a big hit in Australia even if its getting more crowded with Y, Ioniq 5, EV6 and Polestar 4 all fighting for EV buyers. But this is the style of vechical that people seem to want. The better motor is a big deal for VW group in general since they are all somewhat inefficient in general. I feel like the Born is slightly underbaked not hot enough to really stand out above the MG4 with a lot of quirks you'd expect in a first pass on an EV. But it looks like they have made a lot of improvements here. Light up climate control. Regen Paddles!!!. I saw another content created playing with the software and its looking much faster and easier to find important stuff in this version. And finally have the dual motor for the full EV performance.
Looks awesome on the outside and like a spaceship on the inside. Jury still out until we know what the Aussie spec is, but won't be surprised if we are getting the top spec. And finally a backlit climate control.
Hi Chasing Cars team, thanks for the awesome Tavascan intro (and all your other awesome videos in general)! Early days still, I know - but could Tom tell from the brief time he had with the car whether it will come with 4-way lumbar support, rather than 2-way only? (Although a showstopper for many people with back issues, it can be hard to find zippy cars in the sub-luxury segments which offer this feature.)
@@chasingcars yes it does look good but I wish we had physical buttons for the climate control and things like that. And also on another note yes again this electric car is not really cheap. I wish we had a cheap electric car that we could all buy since they all want us to drive them
I purchased a German made Cupra Born and would probably purchase another if I could get the twin engine version with the European or US specs with heads up and app control. Which in Australia we were denied. If it’s a made/built in China version is a deal breaker for me. I like my born and would have loved it if it came with all the goodies that the British. European and Americans get.
me is just impressed with the launching (re-launch ?) of CUPRA, the brand attacking with attractive & appealing goodies .... herrrrrrres CUPRA Our insatiable appetite for sport / lux might do them well here
Who ever edited this video needs sacking. So frustrating switching from the video of the car to it’s driving on a video. Just keep it authentic and raw
Tesla Model Y refresh rumored for a mid/late 2024 release - just before the Tavascan arrives in Australia. The comparison videos will be interesting to watch. Here is hoping the pricing is competitive.
We won’t know for a while; also won’t know what the corresponding price of the Formentor hybrid will be when the Tavascan launches in just under 2 years.
I LOVE this car and bonus it is driving the future being an EV. I would like to know though are they going to include a heatpump(efficiency is everything) for the AU market, what can it tow and the limits of that, also can it take a roofbox or roof racks. Once you know can you share the efficiency(Wh/km) and the coefficient of drag please. I just need to figure out how to get it as my lease on my current EV is ending sooner than this car is available. Any idea when they are going to start taking orders in Australia? I would have liked if you could have sat in the rear seat though to get an idea of headroom and what it has in the back for HVAC controls and USB ports(type). Does it have a frunk?(guessing being VW group no but can always ask)
Sure. Here are some more details - normally would have been in video but I was under huge time pressure… heat pump will be available globally (decision not made on whether it’ll be standard for Australia). Rear seat headroom was OK for me at 6’; legroom excellent. The back seat has air vents, a separate climate zone and USB C ports. No frunk I believe. Efficiency is 14kWh/100km RWD and 14.8kWh/100km AWD.
@@chasingcars Thanks for the prompt reply. As long as it's an option for a heatpump in Australia is the main thing as I definitely will option it. The RWD version sounds perfect although I am waiting on seeing more of the car including the back and where the reversing camera is. The big worry of course being VW group is what software version and software updates as to how Cupra will do them, hoping it has version 4.0 like the ID.7 has. Obviously real world drive testing is also key.
I don’t know. But it has a long battery warranty, and it’s impossible to say for sure when replacement would be necessary and how much future battery costs will be once out of warranty ?
It’s very pretty, but they really have to fix Volkswagen Audi Group’s obsession with touch-sensitive areas rather than physical buttons, and their terrible, laggy and crash-prone UI.
Cupra may find that even though the Chinese are making the car they will find it will be copied and at a lower price point before 2025. You only have to look at the recent Beijing motor show to see that it's already happening and that design is going to be mainstream before then.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the car.

It should be. Cupra says they aren’t a premium or luxury brand so hopefully no huge price upswing
Hands down the best looking SUV to date IMHO. I’ll be ordering one when they come to AUS! ❤
Very impressive design, external and interior.
I think this car is going to do what the BMW i3 did 10years ago… Revolutionise the CUPRA brand to the next level!
About 21 months is a long long time to wait for this cool looking EV. I can't wait for it's OZ release.
The federal government has already started working towards our first fuel-efficient and EVs incentives scheme, which would definitely help those perfect cars come to Australia a lot earlier than nowadays.
Long wait though they’ve managed to minimise the usual ~18 month delay after European launch to six months
In love with Cupra Tavascan VZ ( VeloZ)😍

Seems like they are slowly getting through the list of feedback from earlier efforts, I agree.
Looks stunning, but personally in a colour anything but a matte
There are a number of gloss paints too, including the blue shown in parts of the video
Well, that looks utterly brilliant.
Very memorable styling!
Looks awesome on the outside and like a spaceship on the inside. Jury still out until we know what the Aussie spec is, but won't be surprised if we are getting the top spec. And finally a backlit climate control.
It’s very likely to come to Australia with both RWD and AWD options and in multiple trim grades - but yeah, the 250kW AWD is a certainty.
great video as always
Thank you!

Very likely to be 4-way lumbar - the Cupra Born already has 4-way lumbar when optioned with the interior package's electric seats!
Really looking forward to having it in Australia. I believe that Australia will be ready to welcome those real EV players at that time.
Yep, a nice addition to the landscape

Looks awesome
The triplets ID.5, Enyaq RS and Q4 Sportback have a new sibling. Neither bad, nor extraordinary. Anyway, there is no surprise, no revolution.

love it, but I find the rear too narrow
Lovely vehicle!!
Top speed?

Best looking ev car out there
That back end either needs more creases in it, or larger tailights. It looks extremely weird and tall
Looks ok in the metal I thought.

Cupras are my favourite looking EVs but the prices cant compete with a new Tesla here in NZ
Good looking car

They sure will be!
Gorgeous and take my money….After paying off our increased AU rentals, home loans, living costs etc…
Take my money!!!
The real question is how much more money is the AWD version, than a Formentor VZE?
It needs to be close, otherwise why bother.
We won’t know for a while; also won’t know what the corresponding price of the Formentor hybrid will be when the Tavascan launches in just under 2 years.
It certainly has a good amount of flair in its design and other aspects sound interesting so we wait and see
Yep, will need to drive it to get a full understanding.

Some of us may not even make it to 2025!
I hope we do!
Cupra are crushing it! The interiors 💩 all over the ID counterparts
Reminds me of when Skoda came in and started fitting noticeably nicer interiors than VW.
How much to replace the battery. No ever talks about that
How much to replace an ICE… no one mentions that either…
I don’t know. But it has a long battery warranty, and it’s impossible to say for sure when replacement would be necessary and how much future battery costs will be once out of warranty ?
What’s MEB mean please ?
MEB is Volkswagen’s current-generation dedicated electric vehicle platform.
Like it but i think for our second car i just need a low spec ev. Who will sell a low spec ev with their base ice car?
You could consider an Atto 3 standard range?
@@chasingcars maybe. But oneday soon hyundai or someone else will offer a base model car where the ev is the cheapest.
Would love to buy this car but they must improve the charging. As amazing as it looks if charging and or range sucks no one will want it.
135kW is too low for a 2025 launch, though the curve looks to be remarkably flat to 80 percent
Much better looking than the ID.5 for certain. But pricing is in Tesla Model Y territory.... so why not buy the Model Y?
Probably if you don’t like the Model Y
Or Tesla and Musk Policy in general ;)
The best part of the video is that the car is Made in China😊
It’s very pretty, but they really have to fix Volkswagen Audi Group’s obsession with touch-sensitive areas rather than physical buttons, and their terrible, laggy and crash-prone UI.
Bring this to America ASAP
If the plan to launch Cupra in America gets approved by Volkswagen's board, the Tavascan could even be built in the US for the US.

Take my money 😢😢
And I thought BYD interiors were weird and tacky!
Who in his/her right frame of mind would buy maga mobiles like Tesla cars after seeing this?
Price=Ouch
Price unconfirmed at this stage!
2025 is so far away. Chat later.
Good to know what's on the horizon, surely.
2025...there will be cars with more range by then....what a joke
What an interior! Shame they spoilt it with that big rectangular slab of a screen, which makes it look like someone stuck an iPad on the dash 😢
It’s a massive screen, that.
2025... I will buy a Tesla y for 35-40k instead
