I’m starting my own garage door repair company soon. What are the most common tension spring sizes that I should keep stocked on my truck?

      207 x 1 3/4 x 24-28in
      225 x 1 3/4 x 26 -30
      243 x 1 3/4 x 30-36
      30 turns = 7.5 totals turns
can be -3 , +3 rotation to achieve optimal balance.
recommend having a spring gauge tool to find the existing.
if i saw the door right away i know the springs are done. why wouldn’t you tell her then instead of torsioning old springs it’s a liability the way you temp fixed the door. the springs are done and the homeowner will call a repair guy within a year or so for new springs. as a professional you always save your clients money and do the job the right way. based on your work you spend a lot of time redoing things.

2 5/8 only if you're doing mainly commercial or overlay doors.
      Residential
      207x2x22
      218x2x24
      225x2x24 or x 27
      234x2x27
      243x2x28 or 31
      250x2x30 or 28
      262x2x36 or 33
That is mostly 7ft high springs some will work for 8ft high however it lowers the cycle life
28 1/4 turns with 12 inch radius. Putting 30 turns with allow the spring to lift extra 10 lbs but does lower the cycle life but not enough to worry about

I live in one of the houses in texas but we have a garage door. I think it was like 2 or 3 years ago, the garage door broke. Its a manual one btw. The cables snapped but the repair man actually told us they had to replace the whole spring assembly because it was so old that the metal part where us holds the who assembly was bending, So they came with a new one and it works just fine. And a couple of rollers started to come off. But fixed that and hasn't had any issues lately. Our house is built like somewhere in the 2000s.

If you're changing the bottom brackets on a door, can you raise the door all the way up so the tension is gone or will that cause it to go up on one side? Or should you just unwind the springs?

  • @scottiethomas3038

You should have got the door to the floor as you did and clamp it off and back winded the springs and put new cables on and put tension back on the springs without unwinding springs like you were doing in the video I have been in the garage door business for over 26 years

    • @tcgaragedoor
      @tcgaragedoor  5 місяців тому

I couldve done that yes, but the drums couldve easily slipped, and then i wouldve had to do the same thing anyway, so instead of trying and hoping they didnt, i just reset the cables, knowing the door will be perfect! Rather have the piece of mind of me doing it right then hoping the other guy before me did it the right way (probably not)

Be a lot more interesting if show what you charge and your expenses. Everyone is so afraid to show what they make, the self employed channels that are transparent with their prices and net income always have the most views and subscribers.
