    Thanks for an easy to follow video with proper light and camera angles. My cable came off this afternoon and door fell of the track on one side. With your video as a refresher lesson I made quick work of it. You sir just gave me my memorial day off back to spend it how It should be, honoring the fallen, not fixing garage doors. 🇺🇸

    Thanks for the video. This helped as my cable jumped off the spool today. Saw a couple of other videos, but yours was the easiest explanation. Fixed it without breaking a sweat.

    Great vid and explanation on repairing this issue. How the heck does this even happen in the first place? I have a motor driven opener. All it does is lift and lower. We don't mess with the door in any other way, so I'm curious of causes in order to hopefully avoid this in the future. Thanks!

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  9 місяців тому +1

      In my case, if the door tips to one side or the other even a little bit, it causes the cable to be loose for just long enough to pop off. I agree, I have no idea why it would do that being pulled from the center by an opener, but it obviously does 🤔 It may have to do with the length of the door. Ours is 18' wide (12' tall).

      Sorry for the late reply Larry! We had a family emergency the past week, and I was taking care of that. Unfortunately the weather forecast here is pretty bad for at least the next ten days. We have three -7℉ (-22℃) days in a row this week, and two of them have 23 mph winds! That comes to -33℉ (- 36℃) with the wind chill! We try not to even go anywhere in that kind of weather as you can get frostbite in just a few minutes on exposed skin. We also have about 6" of snow coming at the same time - just a miserable week as far as weather goes. It's going to be slow going around here probably thru the end of the year! 😑🥶🥶

    Towards the end of the video you showed the spring stops you were going to install. I tried looking for the video but couldn’t find it.
    Do you have a link or title to the video?
    Also a link to purchase the spring track stops. I think these are exactly what my door needs.

    If you’ve never worked on cables or springs before be very careful. You could very easily hurt yourself if you’re not sure what you’re doing.

    It would have been easier to loosen the set screws on the drum. Then turn the drum to wind the cable on it making sure to stay in grooves. Then retighten the set screws on the drum to snug plus 1/2 turn then add 1/4 turn to each set screw.

    • @Maxumized
      @Maxumized Рік тому +3

      You have to mark the drum location with the rod, have more tools, and spend more time…sounds harder to me.

    • @PlanetMojo

    Help! I used the pliers to hold the door at the highest point, loosened the set screws, and wound it up and reattached to the door (both sides), but when I finished the 2nd side, it completely unwound itself when I let go even though everything was back to normal. What am I missing?

      From most videos I've seen, manually open the door. Disengage the red handle from the chain.

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому

      You need to have someone come out and look at it then.

    • @Maxumized
      @Maxumized Рік тому

      You need to only work on the cable when door is in the up position without tension on the cable. There should be little to no tension on the cable when door is open.

      It is a bit late, but for other viewers...
      As isaw on another video and my wire that gone off.
      As one wire still has tension on it, it keep the door, spring and drum where it should be.

  • @Bodybydubs
    @Bodybydubs Рік тому +3

    Mine keep coming off track as soon as I move the door. There is no tension

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому

      You likely need the spring tightened.

    • @Maxumized
      @Maxumized Рік тому +1

      Adjust spools on each side to place just enough tension to keep cable lightly taught at the closest point to pulling bracket end. Remember, door should be in up position before working on cables.

  • @flyingjeff1984
    @flyingjeff1984 Рік тому

    Only the first track makes the difference. The rest will "spool" upon lowering and raising the door.

    • @Maxumized
      @Maxumized Рік тому

      Did you hear yourself? Doing it your way would allow less final length in the cable causing the unequal movement…again.

  • @peterrodney3519
    @peterrodney3519 Рік тому

    I'm sorry, but if you fed the cable end BEHIND the torsion bar, you would not have to go through the trouble of pulling/dropping/pulling/dropping the cable onto the drum.
