Even with intensive VST and effects usage, just freeze & flatten along the way and it’s all good. This also helps you commit to your ideas and push things forward.

That's what I do with Maschine. Convert my midi tracks to audio. You can just drag and drop midi tracks into a new audio track. CPU relaxes.

CPU demand aside, if I had followed this tip vs always having dozens of things to tweak and edit later on I would have probably released so much more music by now. Back in the day they had to use up tape to track and so you had to be ready. Now I just hit record as many times as I need until it’s “perfect” to my current ears. Following a roadmap is so so so important to finishing projects.

      What’s freeze and flatten?

    • @LimewaterMusic
      @LimewaterMusic Рік тому +1

@@Tutorial-Center to save on memory and cpu demand you can freeze an individual track which essentially prints or renders the track with all of the plugins and effects you’ve applied without needing to process these in real time. The downside is that you can’t tweak these plug-in settings unless you unfreeze the track and re-introduce the high intensity tasks on your computer. Let me know if I can simplify that any more lol

I'm using the M1 mac-mini. Using Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. I have never taxed resources with plugins. Video editing is excellent. The M1 Air is the same computer inside, so it would also keep up just fine. The M-series chips are more than enough for music making.

I picked up one since I had been taking out a $3800 16 inch Macbook Pro with M1 Max just to run my guitar amp sim Amplitube and a few Soft-Synths in Bars and clubs which is just plain silly. So instead of going back to Amplitube for iPad I picked up a 15 inch Macbook Air and it did everything I needed without 1 single issue!! I ran My rig and Mainstage for my synths and our Bass player through an Amp Sim in Mainstage as well. So a Stereo version of Amplitube and a Mono Version for Bass along with 7 synths with some EQ compression, chorus and reverbs all at 96K "for lower latency" with a Presonus Quantum 2626 over Thunderbolt and the CPU usage was 18 to 20%. It was warm at the end of the night which we played 4 hours but not hot at all. This was all on a 8 gigs of RAM and a 512GB SSD.

16 years using Macs, went through 2 Mac Pro's to a Hackintosh. I've just went back to Windows, only reason I held off was Logic. 3 month in... never looked back tbh. The moving of content drives was a pain the ass, but other than that fine. I can even use older plugins that weren't supported anymore, like Ozone 8. As Windows doesn't lock you out. So yeah, I do hold a soft spot for Mac, but I doubt I'll dip into their echo system again as it's just a money pit I can do without frankly.

6 months in and still zero regrets. But same as Mac, on my PC I have weekly backup running. So any issues, 20mins and I’m back in business. The new Mac Minis do look nice, but I really don’t want to enter their ecosystem again. It’s just too expensive.

I use a M1 Mac Mini w/ external 1tb hard drive. I’m still going to get a M1 MacBook Air for portability and live performance. The M1 Air is as cheap as 700$ now. You’re correct about the plugins and VST. I barely run no more the ten tracks with a handful of plugins. I record a lot of audio tracks, especially with my SP404mkll and MPC one. No spinning wheel of death since I been using it.

The phones were said to get slower, not the computers. I personally am on a 2015 iMac and it still runs like butter to this day (32gb of ram on this one)
The only reason I've ever had to upgrade was because something broke ( like a video card...but that was after years of use )
You said it 5:20 - 5:23, it definitely is psychological.
From what I've been hearing from the established tech people is, The M1 machines are literally that good, that you don't even see a reason to go for an M2.
Still waiting for the iMac M3 to swap for and give this iMac to my mother.
    I can't work with a laptop, I've always been a desktop person.
I thought of going the mac mini route ( people are sayin that this is the better value given the power it now has ) but, I don't want to have diff parts for my machine... Im so mac-centric, I'd end up buying the Apple Display for it, which would bring the price up to an iMac.
6:58 I used to argue with people about this when I worked in a computer store lol.
We all grew up with windows machine, we know what it was like, we don't wanna go back to the dark side lol.

@@DANTEANDOLINI My MBP is a fast machine, it really runs great with logic pro, and only overheats the aluminum case a little, but this only happens when I have the full resolution screen. 2048 x 1240. I always use an external screen for this resolution and it doesn't get hot at all, when I travel to another studio I set the screen to 1344x840 resolution, and the machine always stays cold.
My MacBooK M2 can make 128 tracks with many plugins and the speed is really fluid, there are no bugs, no delays, there are no peaks in the CPU and I never use the battery, because I like to have it plugged in for updates and demanding programs.
I use the battery to surf the internet when I'm in my living room watching television.
When I use Maschine+ things are very easy and as an independent machine it is great, I really wanted to have a sampler like that, but the best thing that Maschine+ has is the controller and sound card.
I also pair my iPhone with Logic Pro and use it as a single fader controller and transporter for playback and record controls. 👍

Buy M1 Air or M2 Air or Mac mini with a minimum of 512 SSD. Base models have small storage and if you take 256SSD base model and install all your plugins - there won't be sufficient amount of storage left to update MacOS when the new MacOS comes out! So my advise is: buy any M1 or M2 based mac/macbook with a minimum of 512 SSD storage. External SSD is ok but if your internal storage is full - you'll be annoyed by slight slowness and low memory messages of MacOS.

Hi! Thx for the great content! I've always played the guitar and now I want to start doing somethings with synths and drums too...I'm between a Macbook or some compact hardware like the aira series (j6 + t8 + e4). I'm not into PRODUCING or RECORDING. I really wanna be able to jam by myself, "in real time", with multiple sounds, play some covers and compositions. I like Bon Iver/James Blake vocal style so Vocoder/Autotune/Harmonizer is essential...With the Mac option, will it really be possible to use these vocal effects in lives, jams and sessions without latency or delay issues? I'm not a computer expert and everytime I've tried to do something like that, even with more experienced people helping me, I couldn't really hear my voice with the effects in real time, and that's what's leaning me towards the hardware options. Hopefully you'll read this. Thank you anyway for all the great content!

Don't think you wanna switch to Windows. It will have you busy figuring out how to update every component firmware / driver such as together it still makes a fluid system 😭

After 16 years of Mac, I've moved back to Windows. Seamless and actually better, as I could use older purchased vst's.

@@vaiman7777 after 16 years on a mac, I started working as a music teacher at a school with HP laptops. Figured Windows and DAWs couldn't possibly be as bad still right... Right?
Turned out ASIO4all is still the only viable option for low latency audio. Starting the DAW before plugging headphones in makes the DAW not detect the headphone output. Seemingly identical computers will behave completely different with the same audio interface plugged in.
Next semester we're getting MacBooks. Thank goodness ^_^'

@@vaiman7777 Focusrite Scarlett, Zoom Livetrak L12 and some streaming USB mic I can't recall the brand of.
Especially the L12 is extremely troublesome in Windows.
Extremely reliable on a 2012 thicc MacBook we had lying around thank goodness =D

@@DJDiskmachine I used to work in a school too. I personally recommended Macs, as supporting that amount of devices, it’s a no brainer. And cost me nothing 😆
But I’ll personally not use them again, mostly due to their aggressive upgrade model. Shame

If you don’t know what the Mac Pro is for, your workload isn’t large enough for it.
Also, they don’t make anything slower. Software gets more advanced and hardware gets old.
Do you even know what you’re talking about? Seems like you’re just saying BS.
