01:29:12 To answer Zeke's question, RE Engine stands for "Reach for the Moon Engine", not "Resident Evil"-engine. You will recognize their logo with the hand that reaches for the moon. Don't ask me WHY it's named "Reach for the moon Engine" tho😅😛
I really don't understand Cohh's take of "all the contraversy around veilguard is about social issues". 90% of the contraversy I've seen is about the bad writing, the pixar art design, the lack of meaningful choices in what was a hardcore RPG series and the monotonous combat loop
I feel like the spatial audio profile in COD is more comparable to having custom-tailored clothing, rather than it being pay-to-win. You can buy a standard pair of pants that’s 'made to fit the average person', or you can go to a tailor to adjust them to fit your body perfectly. Both will fit, but the tailored version just feels and looks better for the exact shape and size of your specific body. I remember watching a video (though I can’t recall the source) explaining how the shape of your ears plays a key role in how your brain identifies where exactly sounds are coming from. If the shape of your ears were to change, it would initially make it harder for you to pinpoint sounds accurately until your brain has adjusted to the new shape, and over time figures out how to 'translate' it more precisely to a location. I don't think COD’s spatial audio profile introduces "new" sounds like hearing footsteps from further away; instead, it helps you pinpoint sound origins more precisely. This is because the audio profile is specifically tuned to match your unique ear shape, and the 'translation' your brain goes through to use your natural ability to locate these sounds. Full disclosure: I'm not an expert on any of this, I do not play COD, I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share my thoughts.
Agree on this. Activision is far from innocent in a lot of areas, but labeling custom ear support as "pay to win" is just dumb. Good headset also gives you competitive advantage, can we qualify that as "pay to win"?
The concept behind spatial sound is nothing like Tarkov and is actually kind of cool. If you think about your ears, there are just two holes that take in all the sound, so why can we hear things in surround? It's because due to the way our ears are shaped they filter out different frequencies when a sound comes the front, back, up, down, or straight from the side. Our brain has gotten used to interpreting the location of a sound due to how our ear shape has filtered it. What this company has tried to do is use the shape of the ear of individual people to recreate the filter your ear makes when a sound comes from different locations. So when Cohh says we need to hear an example, it doesn't work like that, they would need to model the sound off of HIS ears for him to hear the difference. And the reason it doesn't work for everyone is that the software is trying to trick people's brains, that's hard to do! In regards to having a paywall into better spatial recognition, that's another topic altogether.

cohh tried really hard to hate the immersion/embody stuff, with a complete lack of understanding of how audio and hearing works. what would he want them to do? they made a sound profile that applies to MOST ears, does he really mean that they should make new sound profiles for very unique ears for free?
Are they actually making the profiles. Them actively making a personal profile does seem worth 20 bucks? Or is it just a software that the user inputs the parameters and it spits out a profile without any individual input on the devs end?
@@LilOleTinyMe i dont see how the distinction matters, they either make a personal profile for that ear shape, or they made software that does that job. i personally dont think developing tools to make a job easier should result in less pay. im not an expert but it seems to me like part of the price is also the hosting of that sound profile and it being avaliable in different games that use the same sound tech.

Exactly, it's purely a quality of life thing. Besides you can buy it with gold thanks to the wow token. Not a lot of people seem to realise this but if you buy a wow token on the auction house you can actually turn it in for money instead of game time. The real money value of the token gets added to you blizzard wallet. You can then use this money to buy anything in the wow shop or even the blizzard shop. So if you play a lot of wow and earn tons of gold (which is not that hard these days) you can not only play wow for free, but you can buy stuff with your time investment.
If personalized audio profile is "pay to win", can we also label high quality headset as "pay to win"? It definitely gives you competitive advantage over people with worse headsets.

2:54:15 A remake rarely feels like the original. Most often they don't even try to. Re*make* means making a new thing from scratch without using any of the old code/footage/sounds... It's like Total Recall with Colin Farrell. (which BTW is one of the reasons I actually prefer remasters)
I'll never buy the mount because I don't need a mobile auction house, HOWEVER, i get it. The original mount was 5 million gold. There's a first party market for buying/selling playtime for gold, going rate is anywhere from 200-300k gold for $20. That means the original brutosaur was over $400. There is a perceived value of the new brutosaur being good "value" based on the cost of the original.
How does Cohh's logic make sense with Ubisoft trying to milk the release....by pushing a game half a year??? Ye, ok. Also, OW discussion is really nuanced and you have to be in the community to "get". Also, Steam number are a small fraction of the playerbase as it doesn't count Battlenet numbers.
I mean Cohh literally hasn't really played the last 2 ac games. Mirage wasn't even that long but he couldn't even bother to finish it. and he LOVES the AC black flag boat combat. but didn't even bother to get very far into Odyssey, Same with Valhalla. though I can understand that one. It's an insanely fucking long game. Like the tutorial missions before you go to England. it took me about 35 hours to get to England portion of the game. and I didn't even do everything up to the point. I did do quite a bit though but it shouldn't have taken me 30+ hours for that shit. You could probably 100% Origins in that amount of time probably.
Man, the first hour of the show had me wondering if we're "in a bubble" with games again and whether it's going to burst. Then they talk about No Man's Sky, and while I don't have much interest in the game, I kinda want to reward Sean and his team for doing the right thing. I think I'm gonna go pick up a copy and try it.
I disagree with Cohh about the use of audio profiles. The concept that something can generally fit somewhere between 85% and 95% of people, but not everyone, is standard-even to the point of his own shop asking for extra money for larger T-shirts. Even if we look at only competition, the amount of money spent in the world for getting the right golf clubs, or cleats for soccer or football, or the perfect tennis racket for you is huge. In the end, we are all different, and while a lot of us will fit a standard size that will be “good enough,” for almost everyone. It will not cover every single person on the face of the earth. Without charging everyone on the face of the earth, even just the PC gamers, I do not believe there would be a viable way to ensure that everyone has that option. Unless we're willing to charge everyone, probably somewhere between ¢0.99 to $3.00 no matter what. And assuming that everyone would accept that price, I don't think this is something that could reach the billions of people in the world.
Yes, please stop skirting the issues. We watch this podcast for the news, and the "stepping back" and generalization because you're afraid of possible backlash, is extremely annoying. We WANT your opinions and the statements of what's going on, not to be told "if you want to know what we're referring to, go look somewhere else.", no we are here for YOU guys, so talk to US and be real.
How cohh feels about silent hill 2 remake is exactly what I fear with metal gear 3 remake. I don’t think the developers understand the nuance of these games.
Cohh needs to chill! A better headset would then also be pay to win... Also, probably this could already be done by (paid) third party software! And they need to make some kind of sound profile specifically for each paying user, so it's not just some crucial part of the game that's put behind a pay wall...
Your argument has been used ever since the first online game, because a better Internet connection has been proven to be pay to win. That is why it is always the game developers job to ensure that they have better ping for its customers. And it is their job to ensure that better headsets does not have a huge difference for its customers. Your argument is already been fixed because everyone knows it is their job to make sure everyone is on a level playing field.
@@enightc then they should just forbid this functionality when playing ranked or whatever. I, personally, am fully OK with paying something extra for functionality like this (that actually takes after market effort/costs for the company) to give me a more immersive experience. If that is something that people who care about competitive play think is unfair, then just disable it on competitive servers. I, at least, applaud this for bringing a more immersive (single player) experience, and I really hope that people calling this pay-to-win does not prevent it from being introduced in other games, so I can enjoy it too in my (mostly) single player games!
@@enightc it was like 20 dollars or something... It's not cheap. But I'd rather pay for something like this, which actually takes some customer specific effort. Than that I pay for some day 1 dlc or stupid armor set that should have just been released together with the game.

I honestly don't think there's an agreed upon "best way" to play Factorio. There are popular strategies and good practices to follow, but I've never found Factorio veterans agreeing on a single best way to build your base. And since maps are randomly generated early game strategies will vary a lot more.
I mean dragon age origins was a BIG RPG with lots of options to pick. then it went less with da2. HOWEVER, DA:I went back to having lots of RPG mechanics. also, the skills and abilities are even better than those of origins and inquisition. the on;y OEN thing that Inquisition did better then Veilgaurd for me is having an open world map. and also you can continue the game to finish up any side stuff you didn't do in the game. however DA4 after you beat the game you can NOT continue playing. though it DOES give you a save data just before the ending mission.
Cods been pay to win since advanced warfare and the BAL variants like literally the BAL inferno was the best gun in the game you could unlock it with a prestige token and then they released a new variant that was like the 2nd best version exclusive to loot boxes then a couple weeks later they nerfed the free to play inferno so those who paid to roll for the special version felt good about there purchases

Calling the new WoW mount a "concerning trend" incorrect. The trend was obvious 5 years ago. Now it's just a cash grab and an insult every remaining WoW player. Blizzard is milking those poor WoW addicts worse than some chinese gachas.
I mean, I get that you're exaggerating to prove a point, but in most gachas the average spend to pull the character you want is easily over $100, some much higher. Let's not go crazy here, $90 to just get the thing you want to buy is still chicken feed compared to what a gacha can milk out of you. Still shitty as hell, but let's be fair when we call them shitty as hell.

Cohhs take on the cod sound parts are so silly to me. There is no difference to someone just having better equipment than you do. Cod has already sold headphones, keyboards and controlles all in the vain that they will make you play better. What about the pro controllers that are out there?
1:32:26 I get that it's uncomfortable to discuss this type of stuff - also isn't why I watch DF every week - but it's quite the shame to not hear why you "completely" disagree. Is none of it complex? Is it all super simple, dichotomous, and black and white? Surely not, it's not science like math or physics, video games are an art form, always coloured in the dyes of all levels of context - individual, societal, national, etc. You all have an older audience demographic, I think there can be some - if only some - sincere discussion about this stuff without getting into the muddy waters I'm certain we're all averse to.

Nice costumes. Just found out Hans Zimmer does some composer work for Veilguard... I like that. The MTX / P2W talks are the same as always - repetitive. I doubt the manipulative power, of Blizz & Co, is that high... that's rather a streamers thing, isn't it? But I think most people know how to spend their money. If I spend $90 on a digital horse or on junkfood... who cares. If a game is shit because of MTX, I wouldn't think about the MTX, because the game would be shit and I'd play something else. I'm glad I'm watching this episode rather than listen to it. Zeke you should definitely repeat that beard style again, it looks awesome! You guys look great
I like how zeke looks like an angry teenager girl the whole time
It's the return of COHH!
2:54:15 A remake rarely feels like the original. Most often they don't even try to. Re*make* means making a new thing from scratch without using any of the old code/footage/sounds... It's like Total Recall with Colin Farrell.
(which BTW is one of the reasons I actually prefer remasters)
Another episode of Cohh reaching for reasons to be upset about video games
Zeke looks stunning.
01:15:30 distinction without a difference
MH Rise looked fine.
hmm regarding "it ran on a switch"... so does witcher 3 tho..
Zeke is the best. Full commit!
What about Human Centipede for next year?
Man, the first hour of the show had me wondering if we're "in a bubble" with games again and whether it's going to burst. Then they talk about No Man's Sky, and while I don't have much interest in the game, I kinda want to reward Sean and his team for doing the right thing. I think I'm gonna go pick up a copy and try it.
Cure Overwatch, give us 7v7 !!
Just commenting to say I bought the horse armor dlc back in 2006 and it was a mistake.
Look at that Stud
So funny listening to DF talking about Dragon Age after Ralph Skillup review :-D
I don’t think the developers understand the nuance of these games.
they do , sh fandoms in general rly likes this remake
Deamon's Souls remake is not a 1 to 1 remake
im just going to minimize this one for audio only
I love you all.
@@PapBek for the price more than an actual game?
Then you are the target audience
@@enightc it was like 20 dollars or something... It's not cheap. But I'd rather pay for something like this, which actually takes some customer specific effort. Than that I pay for some day 1 dlc or stupid armor set that should have just been released together with the game.
@@PapBek again anything over $5 for digital goods in a full priced game is garbage. But if you want to support a broken system, then by all means. Not gonna stop you from spending money
Cohh love ya, but where is your commitment to the costume? 😁
Ah, you put it back on. Nevermind 😅
Of course JP paid for horse armor smh
Look 1-2 years and a new CoD will be out so 5 year license won't matter
I honestly don't think there's an agreed upon "best way" to play Factorio. There are popular strategies and good practices to follow, but I've never found Factorio veterans agreeing on a single best way to build your base. And since maps are randomly generated early game strategies will vary a lot more.
Saying the mount is important for raiding is the ultimate out of touch take. Geez..
RE engine does not stand for Resident Evil engine. For some reason it is short for Reach For The Moon. 🤷♂️
@2:32:00 yea factorio community is a bit of a pita sometimes. I watched factorio community ruin the game for a friend who didn't appreciate the "meta" gamers coming in to grouse about the "perfect" way.
Wait....what?
The real question sabout the mount is how many Gold token cost the OG one cost compared to the $90 one.
Calling the new WoW mount a "concerning trend" incorrect. The trend was obvious 5 years ago. Now it's just a cash grab and an insult every remaining WoW player. Blizzard is milking those poor WoW addicts worse than some chinese gachas.
Oh please 😂
I mean, I get that you're exaggerating to prove a point, but in most gachas the average spend to pull the character you want is easily over $100, some much higher.
Let's not go crazy here, $90 to just get the thing you want to buy is still chicken feed compared to what a gacha can milk out of you.
Still shitty as hell, but let's be fair when we call them shitty as hell.
@@aduboo29 Are you implying that was the first purchase for the people buying the mount?
8-9 hours for a cod campaign? seems kine of low. I watched a dude beat it in a little under 6 hours on youtube.
49:24 "a side scroller this days is hard" watch them release silksong kek
1:07:44 that's how audio stuff works. they average peoples heads, because we are all different. when you see then talk about "target curves" some might have a range where their studies of people head shapes landed. sorry that sounded like im defending them. they are still a trash company preying on people misunderstanding like cohh did. you dont need "personalized audio" the diference is not that huge, but their marketing makes it sound like it is lol
I think its just to avoid getting into a discussing that could be easily perceived the wrong way with how the internet is these days.
@@nameltneGesreveR I think you are overestimating a vast majority of the commenters, the topics of gender identity are so heavily politicized in the west that just mentioning them has a strong tendency to bring out the most hateful comments from people. Not to mention the potential that it gets picked up by some external space and picked up in some random drama on the side
Well said - couldn't agree more.
DEI is an immoral school of thought though and it is also inherently quite racist and in the end seeks MAP acceptance. Every time I post a comment on this is gets deleted but I don't care.
Only Cohh is in Costume.
Gris is pronounced like 'grease' but the g sound is soft like the g in 'gills' and it's not stretched like 'grease' is when Americans say it, so not Griiis, but Gris. Think of a foreigner trying to pronounce 'Chris' like Serge when talking to Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop xD
Whatever, the conversations are a little annoying.
Maybe Blizzard should develop a (competitive?) gatcha game, or something... I'm in.
How the actual F did JP not see the issues with a pay gated early access to AC? FFS this is why these companies do these things, people like JP just dont attempt to apply critical thinking to these situations. There are children that understand this, how is he this simpy for AAA devs that he doesnt even try. Thank you Cohh for being the voice of "how the fluff do you think thats okay to think?"
Simple. He got early access for free.
So were all the reviewers Jp is talking about that are praising Dragon Age Vielguard just paid off to say good things?
I have yet to see a single review be positive by a wide margin. SkillUp says its just as boring as Anthem was.
Week 2 of skipping international headline news about twitch losing most of their advertisers due to company wide antisemitism at the highest levels. Can anyone suggest a podcast like this that doesn't bury stories?
i have seen nobody talk about that, maybe its not as widespread as you think
@@deatheater6222 Oh, so if you haven't seen it, it must not be happening? The classic 'if I haven't heard of it, it's not real'. In situations like this the only voices that speak out are called whistleblowers and are sticking their necks out. Everyone else is a coward lackey stooge protecting their corporate interests. Alright Cohh, so even with your stance on woke/dei immorality that you wish to ignore, how about addressing the fact review copies ONLY went to people who would NOT be Critical of the game? That right there is scummy as well.
lol
Is zeke coming out as a cross dresser couse i knew that for a while now he likes dressing up as woman a bit much
okay two things
