Drilling or cutting angled or slanted holes in glass bottles, mason jars, wine bottles, flower vases, tea pots, china plate, ceramic jug and coffee mugs is way easier than you think! These cheap glass cutting bits makes it super easy and quick to do. Drilling glass can take forever if you have the wrong bit and the glass can shatter if you use too much pressure. If you're making a lamp or drainage hole for a plant this method makes cutting holes, slanted or straight, in glass, ceramics and pottery a breeze. You can cut angled and slanted holes in glass in less than 60 seconds with these bits.
When cutting glass, be sure to wear safety glasses and gloves.
These bits will NOT cut tempered glass.
Use a cordless drill if possible.
Use caution when using an electric drill.

What a nice feeling to have a UA-camr say "you see those? They were already there." And have 100% certainty that it is a true statement.
I did not believe this would actually work. I often fine items at yard sales thrift shops etc that I think would make nice planters. I would use the old fashion glass drill bit to drill holes. I saw this video and ordered these bits. I am the hole drilling queen. The water bottle idea is amazing. I had no idea that would work. I am so happy I came across this video. Forget ever paying full price for planters again. I make planters from anything now. Any cute jar I fine is instantly a planter. Thanks so much.
That's cool! I have often considered drilling into glass but haven't done it yet. I think after reading your comment I just have to give it a try! 👍😊
This guy is an Engineer's Engineer. Not only does he show you how to do cool things, he shows you how to do cool things c h e a p l y...
Thank you Chris, you're my new fav 👍
Thanks for the kudos!
@@chrisnotap Are you an engineer?
No I'm not. My career choice was auto tech (mechanic) and now retired. I have never shy-ed away from doing anything and everything.
@@chrisnotap I love that attitude. Pursue your interests, whatever they may be! Thanks for being a great source of inspiration 👍
Yep. VERY well said: an "Engineer's engineer"!!
It's guys like Chris who are highly sought after at the likes of NASA!!
You've thought of everything. You are a great teacher. Very patient. You don't talk too fast and you show mistakes if they occur.
And, isn't it a win when you find a great item for a great price!?!
Thanks for that and the great feedback!
"Honey! Why is there a hole on every pot?"
neoone256 “ because I support the diet you are on”
because im smoking pot
Lmao I was like he jux drilling holes every where for us lol
Riiiiiiight 😂😂😂🙈
This is what UA-cam was made for. You share your idea and knowledge, you show how it's done, you are concentrated on the topic, no useless intro or annoying music. Wonderful!
I use these drill bits with a drill press to cut flat holes (with a bottom) into old bricks, to accept those candles with a metal potty around them. Works as a charm.
Wow, thank you!
Those bricks sound interesting. My says she'd I'd love to see a picture! Send one if you can to my email at chrisnotap@gmail.com
@@chrisnotap I'm sorry, but I can't seem to find that brick right now. I believe it went into one of those boxes with decorations in it, because we mostly used it in the winter.
It's fairly easy made. I used a normal soft red brick. I chose one that was broken out of an old house during renovations, with the concrete on it and even a bit broken off. It is absolutely unique and has that shabby chic to it. I drilled the drill bit with the candle diameter into, until it bottomed out. I then chose the drill bit with a little less than half the diameter, and I kind of randomly drilled around into the material that had to go. This left some brittle pieces standing, which I got rid off by jacking a screwdriver between them. As last step I swept the bottom of the holes flat by shifting the brick around on the drill press with the small drill bit down in the hole. Clean up the mess, and you're done.
It really helps to adjust the drill press, so that you can press the spindle into the low end of its travel. This way you get a nice and flat bottom in the hole.
Perfect explanation. I understand exactly how you did it. Cool.
Must be fun at this guys house over a nice dinner. Glasses filled half full and plates cant hold apple sauce but hey who can complain he’s a holy man.
What an absolute legend this man is. First he made smoking machine and spend ton of money on weed and cigarettes to show what it does to lungs. Than he made a video to show benefits of vape over smoking , and now he dropped two parts of pro tips and tricks of cutting holes in glass.
Try adding a felt/foam/rubber pad to the drill itself to prevent a harsh collision with the glass after you’ve drilled through.

Chris - "Oh CRAP!"
Lol!
great teaching.
its good to note that the water is not only good for cooling, but to reduce dust. glass dust is something you want to avoid breathing in. ☺️
Chris, I think I appreciated the water cooling technique as much as the glass/pottery hole drilling tutorial. You really are the pop bottle guru. ;)
Lol! Glad it was helpful!
IT REALLY WORKS, LOLOLO I impressed
Dude...that pop bottle water supply...and you timed the flow time. wow. So basic so awesome so thorough. SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you! This has been the most helpful video I've found!
Most of the comments I saw on Amazon clearly came from people who didn't watch this video! Thank you Chris for making it all so clear!
My pleasure!
I cant get over how CHEAP these are!! i bought one teeny tiny drill bit at Home Depot for $20!! Madness.. Thank you so much!
Fanatastic!! You're a genius!!
Notable points:
1. Glass and ceramic REALLY do take long to fashion.
2. I LOVE your water cooling method: classic easy-fix answer, v efficient!! Well done!!
3. I LOVE your guide tips. These are very important and actually mean the different between making the project do-able or impossible.
4. It's a FANTABULOUS way of turning old chipped basins, bowls, wide glasses and jars into PLANT POTS!!
I would see that possible as the no. 1 usage for the idea!!
Anyway thanks!! Great tips to help your society and we appreciate it highly. You deserve the little bit of financial reward from the vids. Hope it is substantial enough!!
God bless you :)
Super practical; awesome tips, as usual.
Glad you like them!
Oh this cute keyboard in the intro!! 🤩🥰🤩🤩 Soooo cool!
Also thank you for the good tips!

The Action Lab did a video on the science of cutting glass under water. It seems the water is essential not for the cooling but for the physics of how cracks form in glass when water is present.
It’s actually for both the water keeps it cool and doesn’t allow the glass around the cut area to get overheated which can cause the glass to run out where you don’t want it to and yet at the same time what you saw in the action lab video allows the Glass to fracture out faster which reduces the amount of chance for the glass to break where you don’t want to it’s weird but it works
I love the intro typing!
I am going to make a decorative jar to hide my electric toothbrush cord.
Great idea!
I followed the link to Amazon to order and the set is actually on sale for 9.99 now. Mine will arrive in 2 days.
Yay!!! My sea glass sun catcher craft is a go. 😊
I will never need this skill, but I sure enjoyed the video
I went to Home Depot and did not find a diamond drill bit. I did find a small one, which is the size I needed, at Lowe's for $19.95. I used your technique and it worked like a champ! Thank you!!
I did this today! A big problem though ... I ran out of pots that needed holes. Had to go get some from my sister. Too much fun!
I love, all your hole drilling videos.
I had to watch this one a few more times. I wanted to say thank you for showing me how to do this. Its something I have always wanted to do.
Great details and love your enthusiasm--I'm trying again now that my shoulder has healed.
Thank you!
I love your 2 liter bottle idea.
I'm always looking for ways to use what I've got laying around, and this idea is genius.
This is going to make making custom bongs a whole lot easier
Your'e a Star Chris! I'm going to order that set and be ready for a project, can't think what I'll do but I'll be ready when the right glass base comes my way. Love your projects since the glass bird feeder that I have not been able to make but not giving up hope. Just can't find the right size copper pipe but looking. Keep the projects coming my friend.
This was an excellent video, I'm sharing it with my plantaholics 🌿 group. Thank you.
fr mans literally got a downstem in the thumbnail n all
Very helpful, thank you. Clever pop bottle idea, kudos.
That trick with the bottle....GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! Fantastic, really!
You can reduce chipping when you ensure that the backside of the wall you are doing thru is pressed against wood or something similar.
Nice tips
Heck yeah dude now I can finish up my project for my brother!
Great full ideas and cool
That's awesome! wanted to see how to frill holes to make orchid planters Glad I found this tutorial before stumbling around in the dark to figure out technique and which bit to buy. Genius! esp the water thing. thanks
Hi,
I cut bottles to make lamps regularly, and you can do it with a drill press and a flat bottom container with towels at the bottom and water to cover the bottle, it works great. The towels absorb the vibration, and the water covering the bottle keeps it cool.
Have done hundreds.
Fascinating! I just bought the bits!
Awesome tricks.
Just ordered the bits for 12.86 using your link today 7/6/22 thanks
Excellent life hack Chris! 👍👍
This video was great 👍
Thank you so much for information
Thank you hun for all the tips 😊🙏
I was certainly afraid to drill a hole your video have given me my confidence back!!! Thank You Chris
Awesome again 👏🏽👌🏽
That was very satisfying , thank you 😊
Great! 👌 thank you
Another great video! This channel is the BEST on UA-cam. Cheap, effective, and useful solutions. I wish I was half as smart as you, sir... 😄👍🏼
You are as smart. Just keep tinkering and learning and taking things apart and before you know it.....
Love ,love ,love your presentation.
Thank you so much!
Good job on the remake! I am still super excited to try the bottle of water trick...this is always a problem for me, I had to get someone to pour the water and now I do not! Yay!!! Thanks again for sharing!
I bought the same drill bit set 6 month ago , very nice . 🧐🇬🇧🧐🤝👍🏻❤️🤓
Nice 👍
You are my new hero! I just promised my friend a sea glass lamp and cannot find a base i like fir it, though I found a stunning vase that would be perfect and now I believe I can actually do this! Thanks fjr the links as well! Whatever amount you get isn't enough😉
Thank you!
This is awesome. Thank you💚
Fantastic, thanks.
Sensacionales consejos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 cordialmente desde España.
Thx for all the info
wow nice job thanks for the info!
Chris is a nice guy showing off a buncha glass holes
Lol! You're right! I am!
This was a very cool video. Thank you for telling me about it. I hope I get brave enough to try this. I grow rare plants and cactuses. Sometimes pots come with no holes and drainage is very important. I hope to fix some of my pots so they can hold the right kinds of plants better.
I just discovered your channel. Wondering why you don’t have ads. It surprised me... you could be making money from these wonderful videos!!!
They are monetized to the fullest and I do make money on them! Sometimes you tube will play the video without ads to give you, the viewer, a break.
Thankyou these are great tips . Love your videos all very helpful.
Glad you like them!
I followed the link for the bits on Amazon and the price was under 15 dollars so ordered some. Great video
Fantastic idea and cool content
Glad you like it!
I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos it’s shows!
I appreciate that!
Smart,,, Thanks for the information
that's nice dust control!
Thanks. Much helpful. God bless.
Wow! Awesome. I’ve always been afraid of cutting holes in glass. Not anymore.
You can do it!
The best tip here is the cooling water system. Ingenious!
To make your wood jigs last almost for ever, coat them with mineral oil. The oil will soak into the wood and protect them from the water. Apply once wait 24 hrs and apply a second coat. Works great on new or old cutting boards as well. Hint, look in the laxative section of your local grocery store.
Thanks!
Very good video. You explained everything well and answered questions before they were asked. I like that!😉
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Chris ❤️🇨🇦
Hi Chris, I love your videos Sir Engineer! I wish I had half of your brain and skills. You make everything look so simple, thank you for this. I watched your other video on cutting holes into glass and ceramic; do you have a video on just cutting glass, circumference around the bottle?
I love how clear to the point your videos are, sir. Many thanks! :-)
Glad you like them! And thanks for that feedback!
I just placed my order right away, thanks for the video and the links. Stay safe.
Awesome! Thank you!

Great work
Wow. Ten years ago, I had to replace the glass face on a barometer with a reset-able hand. Couldn't find a blank with a hole so I set out to do it on my own. I spent hours at a drill press with a glass bit but couldn't get through. Ended up putting the resetting hand aside. I'm off to see if I can find that hand and the extra blanks I bought..... Thanks @Chris Notap. Very cool vid and the cooling water is brilliant.
Glad it helped
Nice video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, imma make a bong now.
You the man
Amazing.
Thanks!
Thank you! I subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Another great video! I know what you mean about practice. I had a porcelain vanity bowl faucet hole I needed to enlarge for a new faucet I was installing. It was my first time trying something like this, and when the bit broke through, I was not ready and the bit bound and chipped out the top finish around the hole! Fortunately, the escutcheon covered the blunder. Thanks for the great tips. I'll be ready next time!
I agree. When it does cut through, it is unexpected because you think it's going to take way longer!
Thank You very much..
You're most welcome
Good tips, good editing and good video.
Thanks for that great feedback!!
Very interesting Tks
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video with useful informations and very well explanation . Thank you so much sir . From Sri Lanka .
You're welcome from CANADA!
👍Thank You☘️👍
Welcome!
You're great :)
You are!
You should do another inhalation test with those new melatonin vapes! Everyone always says their safe but I want to see with my own eyes.
Nice
Thanks Chris !!! Great video...I'm still scared of breaking the square plate - LOL
You can do it!
@@chrisnotap I will have to give it a try - and even make a video!
Chris, thank you so much for this video. Years ago I saw a tea cup and tea pot chandelier and fell in love with it, however it was over $500.00, way out of my budget. I have wanted to make the chandelier ever since. With this video, I believe I can. I am so excited to try it. Have you ever seen a rain lamp? I first saw a rain lamp in the 1970's, (oops, there goes a hint at my age, lol) and I have wanted one ever since. If you have ever seen one, do you think you might be able to create one and show how to do it? I would appreciate it if you could, but understand if your not interested. Thank you and have a great day
Ooh pt 2?!?!?!?! Yessss
