If you are as lucky as me to live in South Africa ordering anything from e-bay or Amazon takes equally long to get here, between six to eight weeks, I sometimes wonder if they do not load the items on a rowing boat and send them here to save costs on airfreight?😋😋😉

Before drilling the hole, cover the area with masking tape. This helps prevent chipping and should the glass break, it sticks to the tape rather than flying everywhere. This tip curtesy of Mister Natural.

I use an orange plastic bucket hung from the ceiling as a cistern, with a hole in the bottom through which I have thin plastic tubing coming down through an adjustable valve to increase/decrease water flow. The end section of the tubing I wrap around some flexible metal, like a straightened, wire coat hanger, which I can then bend and adjust to position towards wherever I'm drilling so I don't have to hold it with my hands. It works incredibly well, and cost me about $7 to make with supplies from home depot. Also, I can put ice cubes in the water to keep it even colder, which isn't really possible with an empty plastic soda bottle, because the opening at the top is too small to fit them through. However, I was so impressed with this method for it's will-do-in-a-pinch convenience.

Instead of making several jigs, one for each size hole/bit you can simply stick a piece of masking tape over the area you want the hole. Then place the diamond-coated drill bit/hole cutter on a slight angle and begin drilling until you've created a slight half-moon groove in the glass. Then gradually level your angle until you're straight up an down and then continue till you're through. The tape assists in keeping the bit from skipping all over the glass and is less involved than building a jig...really handy when you can't or don't have the time/space to build and store multiple jigs. Anyhew, just a little trick I learned along my way. 😊😉

There were two things you did which caused the jagged edges and the breakout.
    1. Go slow, you don't need to rock, rocking puts the bit at odd angles and causes it to catch and create a non-circular hole.
    2. Stop pressing. Let the drill cut. When you are pressing down as you get to the final bit of glass you are not cutting, you are breaking, since you are breaking it out it looks jagged instead of cut.
But I love those drill bits. They work well for how cheap they are.

Neat! I used a similar method and a slightly more expensive bit to drill holes in granite counter-tops for faucet installation back when that was my nine to five. I like the soda bottle trick. We used to just stop and dribble more water in every five seconds or so.

Thank you very much for this video. I never would have thought of the pop bottle idea and you've simplified what other videos I've seen make look complicated. Seeing this used on multiple kinds of objects was inspiring. I have so many ideas of things I can make now. :)
