Actually Bob had significant construction experience and ran RJ Vila Renovations and won awards long before TOH. They approached him as a result to be the trendsetter to develop the TOH host genre which he expertly did and which all other hosts have emulated ever since. He also did it for $200/episode in the beginning which they later raised to $800/episode near the end of his 10-year run! Then they gave him an ultimatum because he was also representing Rickell Home Centers on the side who was a direct competitor to TOH's main underwriter Home Depot. So he parted ways, developed his own show Bob Vila Home Again, began representing Craftsman tools, and wrote many books. His net worth today is 70M.
Do you have the video or familiar with the video when they did a fire rating testing to a big wood mantle on the fireplace...It was a big stone fireplace with a big old wood mantle I’ve been trying to find that video everywhere
Funny, that old old beam is "under sized" and not up to code anymore but how old is that house? And its still standing? Lol Not talking bad about Tommy, Its just funny how things have "progressed" in building.
Mike Znel dude me and my son just got finished building house and the new codes are ridiculous! Beyond all the crazy building codes the fire suppression is NUTS! 7 smoke and O2 monitors two heat monitors in the garage plus the garage has too be wrapped in 5/8 fire retardant sheet rock PLUS a 400 gallon tank of water with pump, electric monitoring, an electric fire alarm bell mounted on the outside of the house AND sprinkler heads throughout the house that stick out of the ceiling! This is in rural NH!!!!

"Oh, thanks, Bawb. Comin along good, yeah."
“It’s basically made up of tuba fours” - Bob Vila
"Ok, Buub" -- Tom Silva
I need compilations of these in my life lol
Just an homage to Larry Haun. That’s the code.
Tommy’s mustache needs its own show...
Tom had his cub scout uniform on that day. 🤣
hahaha, i thought the same
Back then Tom was about as enthusiastic as a can of creamed corn
Tom is the GOAT of all times
Love how chill Tom is
If Tommy was a teacher
Almost every student would want to be carpenters
Tommy 😎

I wish I got into construction when I was younger. Too late to change profession now. Instead, I'll live vicariously through TOH.
its never too late
I like that trucker hat
Is that Charlie Silva working with Tom there?
Even today Vila still seems lost when he is on a construction project .... nothing worst then listening to a host that is out of his comfort zone.

Bob is about as dry as a popcorn fart!
Bob was the best. He made the life of the director easy. The show was much more unified because of him. Now it’s four different hosts and no unity.

Those houses were built with old growth lumber. That 6x6 was probably cut from a tree hundreds of years old, super strong and durable.
@@mjwbulich Yeah thats the point of my comment.
Is Buub short for Buffalo. (:
The bde just radiates from vila.
Did Bob ever actually build anything?
I think the answer to that would be "no".

Tom Silva Sounded sad. Probably because he had to deal with Bob back then.
Bob's constant interruptions and snarky comments...
I liked on the "Home Improvement" sitcom where Tim always despised Bob Vila. haha. Great show.
Bob is just a jerk!
