Make sure you fasten your seat belt my friend. Judas Priest will take you on a heavy metal ride like no other can. The talent of the entire band is through the roof incredible. Great reaction. Enjoy the ride.
All early Priest is great. My first intro to Priest was Point of Entry, and I've been a fan ever since. I saw Defenders of the Faith concert, and that is a show I'll never forget.
Judas Priest is a musical journey. Don't bounce around. I'd suggest moving through time from Victim of Changes to (I'm picking one song per album) ... Diamonds and Rust (try it live -- lots of different vibes on this one over the years), Beyond the Realms of Death, Hell Bent for Leather, Rapid Fire, Screaming for Vengeance, The Sentinel, .... That just gets you through roughly their first decade of metal evolution. There is so much more.
I saw them twice in the early 80s and there sound live hits you in the face . Try Beyond the Realms of Death Glen plays one of my fav solos its perfect.
Good point out on the slayer being influenced. Dissident Aggressor is a cover from Judas Priest. KK Downing and Glen Tipton are legends. The song is incredible especially the lyrics. Dreamer Deceiver bud
Nice - one of the best songs to start your reintroduction to them. I know I suggested this on one of your other videos, but "The Sinner" (Live Vengeance 82) is also a chance to watch KK Downing void the warranty on his whammy bar - LOL! "Beyond the Realms of Death" is another great 70's song that is a fan favorite
Ok, I’m the Old School. I’ve seen all these Classic Hard Rock bands live from the time it all started. I know this stuff. RUSH 18 times in concert and the same with JUDAS PREIST, 18 times over the decades. I’ve been trying to get reactors to trust me on this, but most are young and go by likes, views and requests by some who may not know as much as us Oldsters who were THERE. I don’t recommend weak music ever and am only trying to share very good songs that a lot of reactors say they are looking for. Still, I’m just one guy and they are reluctant to trust me even if I give my experience with this music. I’m glad JP is getting a little more attention and most people here have no idea what they have in their deep, badass catalog. Zero clue, just don’t know it. Painkiller got overplayed because it’s on the extreme end of their style. I won’t go into why they did that song here. I’m here to tell you from a lifelong fan,who knows his stuff, that this is one of their very best songs recorded at their peak. It’s Riding On The Wind from the Screaming For Vengeance album. Do the STUDIO VERSION only please. It’s a Badass, Hard hitting, High energy, Classic Rock song that Slams. It’s a perfect example of what they do best and it shows Rob Halford in top form and why he crushed other singers. He BLASTS on this! They have some all time greats in Hard Rock and this is one of them for damn sure. Do it loud! I personally guarantee this one. I’ve even gone as far as to tell reactors that after playing this on their channel, if they don’t agree with me 100%, that I give them my full permission to say anything about me, insult me, live on their channel. Still no takers. I also say I don’t do this just because I might want to hear my request, I do it to share this excellent music. I have the same motivation as the reactors. I don’t want to see a dud on their channel either. That’s not what I do. I have excellent taste and my picks speak for themselves.
@@JustinPanariello, the album starts with a instrumental intro called Hellion that goes right into the excellent, very well known song Electric Eye, about a spy satellite no less! How many Heavy Metal bands have subject matter like THAT in their music. In 1983 even! The third song is the one I keep bothering reactors about, Riding On The Wind! (Studio version only please)and at Top Volume. It’s badass and Zero fuck around. I guarantee it. I’d been harassing Popenyco, who’s very cool and plays a lot of excellent progressive rock, for months to play one of my favorite records, YES: Drama. He’s a big time YES discoverer. He became an instant fan and got love from the Old School because he consistently played them and other high quality prog rock. I keep telling him my Rock credentials and repeatedly told him he had to hear it! On or off his channel, this was fan to fan, I told him. Finally, recently, I guess other guys like me told him about it too. So he did it. He just about had a meltdown! Ha Ha! I reminded him that I’d been harassing him for MONTHS about it and to never doubt me again! HaHa! He’s a cool young dude whose getting YES mind blown. I don’t have the heart to tell him we used to do that on good quality hash and go to the concerts. Most reactors today would crap their pants as their brains melted out of their ears at one of those original, high powered shows! I joke about the time machine I would take them in and be their guide to the Rock n Roll past and how I would laugh my ass off watching THAT reaction!
The whammy bar guitarist is KK Downing. His style always reminded me of a more metallic Jimi Hendrix. The other guitarist is Glenn Tipton. In this song, as in many songs, they alternate lead work. You can always tell when it's KK's turn because he can't keep his hands off the whammy bar! They're both hugely under-rated, IMO. KK's style is great for a lot of songs ("Deep Freeze", "The Sinner" & "Dissident Aggressor" come immediately to my mind), but I've always given a slight edge to Glenn's lead work as I think he plays with more nuance. Some fine Glenn leads include "Dreamer Deceiver", "Beyond The Realms of Death" & "Painkiller" (among many others indeed). Having said that, KK Downing wrote what is probably my favourite Priest song: "Run of the Mill" from their 1st studio album, "Rocka Rolla" ('74). I recommend reacting to all of the above songs with the possible exception of "Deep Freeze", which is an instrumental that a lot of people can take or leave, & really needs to be heard in its place on the album ("Rocka Rolla") rather than as a stand-alone piece. If you react to "Run of the Mill", I recommend finding the recording that appeared on the compilation "Hero, Hero" ('81) as it is better mixed than the version on "Rocka Rolla" (in fact, every song from "Rocka Rolla" was remixed & released on "Hero, Hero", & sounds better than the origin mix). If you react to "Dissident Aggressor" (which you *definitely should*), do yourself a favour & also do the song that precedes it on the album ("Here Come the Tears"). There's a great contrast between the songs & there's no gap between them on the album. The album they appear on ("Sin After Sin", '77) is a groundbreaking metal masterpiece. Priest released what is arguably the best live album ever: "Unleashed in the East" ('79). It is *astonishingly* good, its worst feature being that it's not a double album. It's worth a full album reaction / review, IMO. "Victim of Changes" is on it, & you'll notice the giant difference in tempo & energy level in the live version compared to the studio track. I'll let others talk about their later stuff. They have a long, diverse catalog full of wonderful music! Cheers!
they really grew in their musical style through the 70s. they really blew up in the early 80sand are still touring to this day. even now at 70 Rob Halford is still an amazing singer. definitely looking forward to more reactions especially some iron maiden ones. subscribed!
All other Priest albums are just albums. This one is a masterpiece. Listen to the whole thing. It is really great. Also Glen Tipton at the US festival is kick ass. Glen is one of the best guitarists.
Rocka-Rolla? Sin After Sin? Stained Class? Killing Machine? British Steel? Point of Entry? Screaming for Vengeance? Defenders of the Faith? Turbo Lover? Ram it Down? Painkiller? Jugulator? Etc?
This is the very first song by Judas Priest that turned me on to them. It was such a different sound from the music I was listening to at the time that I had to go back and collect everything they had to catch up to their current album ('83).
Priest are fantastic - you are right to bring up the Sabbath comparisons. They are both working class bands from the same area of the UK, so emerged from similar roots. Sabbath came first but each added a lot to the early days of metal. If you want to stay with early Priest for a while I suggest almost anything from Unleashed in the East (Exciter perhaps). If you want live video then maybe the San Bernadino 1983 concert (perhaps Diamonds and Rust) or, for something very early and a bit different, the BBC performance of Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver (which I love but it is proto Priest). Have fun!
Wow that was cool. I really enjoyed that. At this time I was a huge prog rocker, herd Judas Priest but metal never registered however that was a nice non-violent, non crash bang, beautifully composed piece. Nice pow wow Justin.
I joke that the reactors should listen to the Hell Bent for Leather album if they want to know what JUDAS PREIST really sounds like. I even think some of the younger than me fans have no idea this album exists. It’s one of the ones that put them on top! It’s what made them! You simply don’t know JUDAS PREIST unless you’ve heard this entire album, period. It’s one of their top 5 records in MY opinion. Listen to it all the way and prove me wrong. Again, I’ve seen 18 of their tours and have been a fan since the 70’s so I think my recommendations are valid, Very Valid.
One of my friends was in a "death metal" band as the drummer. Going to his house was suprising. His record collection had almost no metal and a lot of jazz or fusion jazz. This dude could throw down some serious metal drumming. Almost like he punched the clock and played metal. Then, he punched out.
Judas Priest's stuff sounds different throughout the years. The most traditional metal stuff comes from Defenders of The Faith and Painkiller with some other tracks sprinkled through Screaming For Vemgeance, Ram It Down and some others. I would hold off on Priest's early stuff. It's great but i say it's best saved for last.
BTW really like your channel.have you ever checked out The Winery Dogs? Richie Kotzen guitar and vocals. Mike Portnoy on the drums and my favorite bass player Billy Sheehan.
Nice, well this song is my favorite live song they play. I think, you need to try Sentinel live from Fuel for Life tour and of course you need to listen to Painkiller. Great thing about Priest is every album is different, unlike other bands. Pantera was heavily influenced by Priest, they took them on tour on the Painkiller tour, Thats the first time I heard them.
Seeing that you already know Slayer you may look into a song they covered from Priest: Dissident aggressor, from sin after sin album released in 1977. You won't be dissapointed. Another great Judas Priest songs: Hellrider (2005), The sentinel (1984), Jawbreaker (1984), devil's child (1982), Hell patrol (1990), Between the hammer and the anvil (1990), Traitor's gate (2018).. to name just a few. Don't go for breaking the law, living after midnit, You've got another thing coming. Not bad ones but so overrated. They people that doesnt know Priest's vast catalogue usually name these 3.
If you like classic metal from the early 80s, try Accept. "Fast As A Shark" (pretty fast), "Metal Heart" (classical tunes), "Neon Nights" (how low and distorted can strings sound?), "Princess Of The Dawn" (just good). Importabt note: Listen to the old album recordings, not the re-records!
This is a classic and all the rock schools do it 🤗😎😂. However the live from back then when u actually see em doin the song is so much better. Imo anyway 😈🤗
Kool, this is my first time seeing ur reaction l didn't know my bad,..70's judas priest is the best, they say Sabbath invented metal, well judas priest added more to it
