One of the most eye-opening videos I've seen was of just how much flex there is in a stock rear swingarm when locking up the rear wheel on sand. With the power upgrades you have, I really hope you're going to address that! It would be great to hear whether you can feel the difference. Might actually be interesting to see whether extra stiffness helps or hurts traction
Haha yeaaahh @Electric Cycle Rider love every time you attempt riding on mode 5… I intentionally designed that mode as a “party trick” to scare and surprise petrol heads looking down trash talking “nah this is just a little toy”… SURPRISE!!! This is so exciting! Notifications on. We need more build series in the community like this, I think it helps people fall in love with the hobby that much more. Can’t wait to see more.

Super excited to watch this build series as a lot of the riding I do matches the riding you do (lots of trails!). I’ve been wanting to upgrade the parts on my bike, but right now I’m bone stock other than new footpegs and tire inner tubes, as I destroyed those garbage stock ones quickly. Suspension next!
@Sonic K Awesome! Good call on replacing the tubes and foot pegs. Another affordable upgrade is taller bars or bar risers. It helps a ton for ergonomics! Definitely planning to set this bike up as an enduro / single track build. I'm going to go big with suspension on this build but there are plenty of good options and more coming. Wink Wink. 👍
Love this style of video. Great details in explaining what’s being done. I knew I waited to pull the trigger for good reason. 53Ah battery!! I’m buying for 50th birthday spring of 2026. The tech should be amazing by then. I knew we wouldn’t need dongles and computers to tune these bikes forever. That was back in 2018 when I said they need to be able to tune and adjust from phone app. And low and behold. Wait another few years for the other things I’m waiting for to come out.
Awesome idea, Tucker. With all the cool stuff out there now, it’s so much better than my original BAC8000 build. Can’t wait to see the next vid!👍🏻 And that added seat height looks so good😉
Really hoping you're gonna go for the EBMX YSS Custom shock + linkage and triangle kit on the rear. Really considering it for myself but would love to see more before I pull the trigger. Either way I'm excited to see where you'll go with this build!! Also, nice riding!! +1 subscriber.
Do a BAC build on the Sur Ron and a KO build on the Talaria! It'd be cool to have to different but similar bikes get two different (but similar) upgrade routes.
16 / 19 , fox 40s, ext shock. This battery is a beast but after doing the above with the same battery to my bike the added weight is definitely noticeable
@bwisdom Definitely noticeable! That battery is quite a big increase in weight and needs attention to the suspension if you're riding off road. Big suspension upgrade, wheels, and a bunch more hard parts coming to this bike next...
lol thats crazy man.. I Have a silly question hopefully I have not already asked and forgot. but is it possible to set up a Left handed throttle on a sur ron /Talaria.? I'm more of a Mountain biker always doing Manuals and wheels so my Brain is Trained to have Rear brake on the right.
@@ElectricCycleRider only thing with that is wheelies would probably be hard with rear brake on same side as throttle.. I ended up switching my mountain bikes to left rear and I am relearning lol almost looped a manual going down a ridge the other day I got to slow it down and take my time relearning after 15 years on and off mountain biking been on 3 mtb rides sense the switch.. my Talaria came yesterday it is a blast 🙃
Are you still looking into options for running a 72v with the 4mfoundry moto kit? I have the moto kit and am waiting for someone to find out how to do so. 🤘🏽
@@ElectricCycleRider thats what i was thinking it would be kinda tweakey and with more power a bit sketchy. Cool build series man nice job looks fast af.
It’s not, with aftermarket controllers you can tune for the voltage range giving better throttle resolution. The cable throttle also doesn’t have the issue of weak wiring breaking leaving it useless. 1/4 isn’t twitchy like most think and you can adjust that via the cable
You don’t want your wrist all tweaked out when holding wide open.. especially when standing in attack position. The 1/4 turn is way better and a great upgrade. The cable is far more durable when you catch a branch on the trail.. that would normally destroy those tiny wires on the electric throttle.
Tucker - Great video! I am thinking about getting an electric bike to ride single track and woods (muddy trails, creaks, hilly, lots of logs, etc) near my home. I like the idea of the Sur Ron, but looking at the cost of upgrades (bike + controller + battery + suspension) - this would put me in same price territory as a used KTM Freeride EXC. I know the Sur Ron is the "budget" choice, but I know I would end up upgrading the bike. What would you recommend, the KTM or the Sur Ron- if the Sur Ron, why?
@ssobers Thank you and great question! You can definitely mod a Surron to be the same cost as a Freeride and the ultimate outcome is that they will still feel very different. The KTM Freeride is going to feel like a full size dirt bike and the Surron will feel a lot lighter and nimble, even with the mods. If your trails are really rough, you might want the extra weight and suspension that the KTM can offer. If your trails are flowy and fast and you want a mountain bike type feel, the Surron will feel more like that. What bike are you currently riding?
@@ElectricCycleRider Tucker - thanks for the reply! Current bike is a 2017 KTM 300 X-CW. In the middle of PA we have a lot of rocky single track trails... hilly and mostly reclaimed coal lands. This is a great bike for these trails, can power over and through anything. Looking for something to ride near home - mostly farm land, woods, creeks, hilly, muddy - not as rocky and I wouldn't say flowy- some of the trails are flowy, but most are tight single track.
@Ian Right on! The 1/4 turn option is great (cable or non-cable). My first Sur Ron in 2019 had the cable throttle, so I was keen to try the cable again since it's been a while. I like that it's not as erratic as the non-cable. I feel like the non-cable can feel jerky at times, which I don't like especially when there is a lot more power. But the cable feels a bit gritty, for lack of a better term. I'm going to try the Magura option next, which gets a big stamp of approval from Mike at DirtyBike. 👍
@@ElectricCycleRider awesome, yeah I do notice the e-throttle has an odd way to it, small dead zone, and a bit erratic when the engine first rolls on. Gritty feel eh, have you tried throwing a bit of lube on the cable? I know it should be fine stock, but sometimes.. 😆 Dose the cable feel more similar to a gas bike?

I don't know how tall the EBMX 72v 57ah battery is. I have their 72v 42ah and I fit a Race Spec MX seat using the stock battery cover latch hook and no seat risers by making 1" risers for the front of the battery cover. Tons of knee grip sitting or standing and wide, soft seat plus you can get your weight forward over the battery. I know your seat is already up 2" so look into it.
I looked at this option vs storm bee. Storm it was, why? Limitations on power use, repeated full throttle is not allowed or motor go bye-bye. Then theres the fact its not a full moto, your on mountain bike parts, so it asking for trouble on the rough stuff. But each to their own, on the tight stuff this will eat the storm.
I love Surrons. They are great, but sometimes I feel this is all like chasing your tail. When you increase power, you need to improve this, need to improve that. On and on it goes. The ELMOFO plug and play kit rocks. I don't sell it, but I have ridden bikes modified by them. EBMX headquarters is only 5 kays from my place and ELMOFO are about the same. Having ridden some fast Surrons I think the best bet is still this kit from ELMOFO. By the time you spend the money on the upgraded Surron battery, controller, front suspension, rear swing arm, rear suspension, bars, brakes, wheels, types, etc, etc, etc, you might have well have purchased a WR450F roller and this kit. The ELMOFO battery pack is double the capacity, it has more power and it is registerable. The downside is the weight and chuckability in the tight stuff - although they ride like a 250. www.elmofo.com.au/electric-motorcycle-emx.html
Thanks for such videos. It is actually exactly what I was looking for right now. My biggest concern however is not the suspension, but the motor itself. Are such mods ok with it? Why are they not making such bike, when they (surron) know people are modifying it heavily? Thanks again. Cheers.
If you pin a stock bike long enough you can burn up the motor. Fortunately that rarely happens on dirt but if it does there are two replacement motors. QS165 35h is the hall sensor version that will give more power and better heat resistance for a couple hundred $ or the KO monster motor.
Yeah .. suspension, wheels & so on, you'll end up overwhelming the chassis, it wont handle the forces being applied to it's limited design. Careful Buckaroo .. It'd be great if the e-moto bike world would bring to market something in between a full size Moto ( Alta, Stark Varg ) & these smaller, less robust designs. A bike with real suspension, up-to-the-task chassis geometry & wheel size & OA weight either side of 175lbs would eclipse the sales of the current offerings in short order.
The frame is strong enough. Even with better forks and shock the short wheelbase makes it a handful at speed. If he goes 21/18" wheels there is a 1 3/8" (forget the actual metric number) rear riser instead of the usual 1 1/2" that will slow down the steering a bit.
Any guesses on what we'll do to this Sur Ron X next?
