As a woman who absolutely does not want to have children, I can definitely say it’s frustrating when people make my reproductive status their business. I’ve never liked being around children or taken a liking to caring for them, so why should I get pregnant with something that will make me miserable? It’s my womb, and not anyone else’s.

I have absolutely no desire to be a parent. No matter how many times people will tell me that I will "change my mind" that is never going to happen. Children are not my cup of tea and I have no patience to deal with them. I can't even stand children when people bring them out in public. Why would I want any of my own?
You decision is not of anyone's business, and you can always ignore judgments if you are a strong person and know what you (don't) want. But we cannot avoid noticing the big picture here: when a society reaches a certain level of security and wealth, confort tends to become the central purpose of life. Why were our ancestors having more children even though their lives were much harder? Western society is choosing death and maybe it deserves it. Islam is offering a much stronger spiritual bond and sense of meaning, they will take over Europe. In the Americas, Christians in the flyover US and in Latin America will remain.

We're Jamaicans and in our culture you're supposed to be fruitful and multiply. My sister knows the pressure I get being childfree, because she has one kid. They ask her everyday when she'll give my nephew someone to play with. She says her response is always "When you pay for it!" which I find hilarious and quite fitting. They're there to pressure you but no one wants to help when the kid is here.
You are not childless but childfree. A childless woman is a person who is crying over and over for a child but she can't conceive for blood reasons or medical reasons.

To the people who say I'm gonna regret not having kids, when is the regret gonna start? I'm 43. I got sterilized in my twenties because I knew since my teens that I didn't want kids. I have never for one second regretted it. So when's it going to happen? When I'm 60? 80? I would like to get sterilized. However I can't ever since the Congress and religious assholes put in a law. Stated that you abide by the requirements 1. Need consent from husband 2. Must be over 25 and 3. Must already have give birth to child or has more then one child..and even then that's if they feel like giving it to you. And I'm like...why? Why do I need my husband dictate over my body!! I'm the one that will be going through hell with body change, post stress, etc. Not him. Growing up, my family and I were poor due to the fact that my mother had 8 children. My mom and dad worked so hard to provide for our needs but because they had many kids they couldn't really provide for our wants. Growing up I never had a bed of my own, I would share a bed, sleep on the couch and sleep on the ground. Now that my siblings and I are all grown ups, my older siblings have children and me and my 2 younger siblings are still child free, I'm 24, and I choose not to have kids because I know the struggle that my family went through. I honestly love being childfree, I've never felt so free in my life. Right now I have all the things I never had as a child, my own clothes, my own bed, my own shoes, etc. I'm not selfish, I'm oneself.

Motherhood is a tiring and thankless job that is a lifelong commitment. It's cruel and antiquated to guilt women into taking on that massive responsibility, especially when women are immediately blamed when their children misbehave or don't become successful. My mother had 4 of us with little to no help from the fathers, and didn't give us a good upbringing because a mother inherently has to divide her time among all her children, and also among her responsibilities as an adult. Why aren't men ostracized for their reproductive choices when it's obvious that it takes two to tango? They're lauded for spreading their wild oats but take little ownership of the burdensome child rearing responsibilities. It's a hypocritical system, so no wonder more women are wising up!

If i KNOW i wouldn't make a good parent, it would be selfish to bring one into the world only to make it suffer my bad parenting. Besides, a kid would get in the way of my dream job, and my wants which would keep me away from home. Like i want. I can accept that it's MY LIFE, and having kids is just not for me. Parenthood might be for others, but it's not for me.

Choosing to remain childless is a major decision. That is why I visited a sperm bank a few times before I got a vasectomy. Starting a new human is a huge responsibility. That is why I got a vasectomy. Starting a new life should NEVER be accidental or without your consent. 19 is a good age to visit a consultant and then a sperm bank. 20 is a good age for the surgery.

I love it- so much freedom, more money and more time to ourselves. The whole legacy this is bullshit- who actually remembers their great grandparents? Does anyone know the name of Shakespeare's kids off the top of their head- highly unlikely- they know Shakespeare for what he did rather than how many kids he popped out. People say you will be old and alone without children to look after you but lets face it very few kids look after their grandparents in old age and just dump them in a nursing home. I'd rather save money for a nice nursing home and pay for it myself. I'm not lonely as my partner is childfree too- we travel a lot and volunteer since we have the finances and free time to do so. Wanting to leave a legacy is really narcisstic in my opinion anyway. I respect people who do have kids but it should always be because they wanted to have a kid rather than forced to. @Supergirl Not necessarily. Plenty of people end up with children due to having sex without contraception and feeling too attached or guilty to either have an abortion or give the infant up for adoption. Plenty of parents, mothers included, later regret that choice and resent their children for it.

I absolutely love this. I lived in misery for years becuase I felt so rushed to have get married and have children. After so many years of terrible boyfriends and now that I finally have a great guy, I simply just don’t care about having children. I took that pressure off me and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.

You don’t need to justify yourself. It’s your decision, period. If people call us selfish for not wanting kids, so be it. I personally think it is selfish to have them because “the husband wants them” or because “the kids will take care of their parents when they’re old”. Unless there’s an actual profound desire to conceive a life and raise a human being, I don’t think anyone should have kids, but unfortunately that’s the default.

I rushed into having a child my first semester in college and i wish i had listened to something like this and understood you can be child free and you are still important and worthy of love. Oh please. I'm a teacher, a male, a primary breadwinner, and it is living paycheck to paycheck, but it is doable. You may not be able to take all the trips you want, or be able to purchase a new car every few years, but you get so much more in return: children. Your children are your heritage, your legacy for future generations. Choosing not to have children is like letting a branch of the family tree die. Your own children are not like your students. Unlike the disrespectful children that are all too often common in today's schools, your love your own children far above and beyond those of some stranger's kid, and they're generally better behaved than what you see in a classroom, granted that you raise them well.

I'm one of the married ladies who DO NOT want any kids. If anybody call me selfish , I don't care. People seem very concerned with painting childfree people (both women and men) as “not necessarily disliking children”, I guess to make them seem less intimidating or deserving of hatred? But I think you failed to mention something crucial: not everyone needs to like children! This doesn’t make them demons. Some people have their anxiety triggered or are extremely annoyed by loud noises and big commotions and that can be more than enough reason to dislike kids. This dislike of children doesn’t make anyone a monster or unlovable, this is just a simple fact showing that we don’t all have to like the same things, and that is okay.

I feel so blessed that my husband-to-be was on the same page when we first met. It is probably why we lasted as long as we did! ♥️ I asked him multiple times to ensure he truly did NOT want children. We both look forward to having a family of fur babies in our near future. ☺️

I think that the biggest leap is that people are finally saying, "Look, you have no say in my life." Oh either side, we're just done with other people telling us what to do. Live and let live. Also with less children in this country it means that their will be more jobs, homes and food to go around. Less people means less stress on the country. acrobatsutr if you look at demographics you will find that the children of immigrants adjust to the norm. In other words, once raised in the USA they choose to only have a small family like the rest if the population.

I’m 38 and I’ve known since I was about 10 that I never wanted children! I live a very happy life! Having children is the woman’s choice, if you have them be happy, if you don’t have them be happy! There is good and bad in every situation! We have a choice to choose how we live our lives, there are always options and I am very happy in my life! I have tons of free time to pursue my hobbies! Having and raising a responsible human is a huge responsibility that incurs lifelong sacrifice. In my opinion, why not be a carefree spirit, enjoy time the time you have and be the best version of yourself instead? Why bring a child into the earth that may succumb to the consequences of climate change and surrounded by corporate greed? It's craziness.
I shouldn't have to give up my goals and dreams for some stupid social expectation. Children are a huge responsibility that I don't think I'd ever be ready for. Their expensive, and that kind of lifestyle of staying home and not studying the world around me is not the lifestyle I want to live. I'm tired of people telling me that I'll change my mind. Kids would get in the way of those goals and dreams. Also, as someone who lived in a household with a parent who didn't want me, I don't want to put that kind of pressure on a kid that I don't want. It's cruel to have a kid for the wrong reasons (societal expectations, etc...) So, I don't think it's selfish to not want a kid. I also don't want to fuck up my body, it's already an unhealthy mess. If I ever were to change my mind, it would be far into the future where I am mature enough, and have a strong financial foundation, and a proper environment in which to raise a kind, and I would adopt since there are thousands of kids in the foster care system, and that foster system isn't always the best for kids.
The "choice" of becoming a parent is a concept that needs more exposure. Generally speaking; people don't know that having children is a CHOICE. Often, people think it is just something you do as an adult; like buying a home and getting a job. We need to educate little boys and especially little girls about their reproductive choices.

Yes, sadly, so many of them reveal their own misery...misery loves company. These are not the types of people who should ever have had kids, but they don't want to admit it. I knew fro the time I was 16 I didn't want children. I saw too many unhappy mothers and the guys, were even more unhappy. I admire women who make this choice. What gets to me is how women, who go to college, work hard to get their degrees and get their careers going suddenly stop and feel they're not satisfied until they have a kid. A lot of it is an emotional decision sometimes it's because of peer pressure. I call it shared misery. All in all, it's like they do something not a lot of people can do (College/Careers) to do something 99.1% of the population can do, make a baby then give up their careers and say "I'm going to stay home and be a full time mom". Careers and raising a family don't mix and is why the divorce rate is so high. They'll always say "That won't be me" Guess again.

I understand people not wanting children. What's the point of bringing life into this world irresponsibly? My mother married a deadbeat who left her alone to raise us. Me and my siblings have different struggles and issues we're dealing with because of that. I'm not against people having children but be smart about it.

As a woman who absolutely does not want to have children, I can definitely say it’s frustrating when people make my reproductive status their business. I’ve never liked being around children or taken a liking to caring for them, so why should I get pregnant with something that will make me miserable? It’s my womb, and not anyone else’s.

We're Jamaicans and in our culture you're supposed to be fruitful and multiply. My sister knows the pressure I get being childfree, because she has one kid. They ask her everyday when she'll give my nephew someone to play with. She says her response is always "When you pay for it!" which I find hilarious and quite fitting.

To the people who say I'm gonna regret not having kids, when is the regret gonna start? I'm 43. I got sterilized in my twenties because I knew since my teens that I didn't want kids. I have never for one second regretted it. So when's it going to happen? When I'm 60? 80? Growing up, my family and I were poor due to the fact that my mother had 8 children. My mom and dad worked so hard to provide for our needs but because they had many kids they couldn't really provide for our wants. Growing up I never had a bed of my own, I would share a bed, sleep on the couch and sleep on the ground. Now that my siblings and I are all grown ups, my older siblings have children and me and my 2 younger siblings are still child free, I'm 24, and I choose not to have kids because I know the struggle that my family went through. I honestly love being childfree, I've never felt so free in my life. Right now I have all the things I never had as a child, my own clothes, my own bed, my own shoes, etc. I'm not selfish, I'm oneself.

Motherhood is a tiring and thankless job that is a lifelong commitment. It's cruel and antiquated to guilt women into taking on that massive responsibility, especially when women are immediately blamed when their children misbehave or don't become successful. My mother had 4 of us with little to no help from the fathers, and didn't give us a good upbringing because a mother inherently has to divide her time among all her children, and also among her responsibilities as an adult.
Why aren't men ostracized for their reproductive choices when it's obvious that it takes two to tango? They're lauded for spreading their wild oats but take little ownership of the burdensome child rearing responsibilities. It's a hypocritical system, so no wonder more women are wising up!

I dont want children. This is something I am certain now, though it wasn't always the case. I'm someone who loves his freedom and spend my time for myself, though for the longest time I thought I must have children at some point - thanks to my mother. She didn't leave room for thinking otherwise. When I met my current gf it turned out she doesn't want kids either, and suddenly I realized that I really do not need to have them. I can travel and See the World whenever I want to and Do what I want and when I want.

Which is something my father should have listened to. He didn't want children, but listened to my mother. All he did he did to provide for us. I love it- so much freedom, more money and more time to ourselves. The whole legacy this is bullshit- who actually remembers their great grandparents? Does anyone know the name of Shakespeare's kids off the top of their head- highly unlikely- they know Shakespeare for what he did rather than how many kids he popped out. People say you will be old and alone without children to look after you but lets face it very few kids look after their grandparents in old age and just dump them in a nursing home. I'd rather save money for a nice nursing home and pay for it myself. I'm not lonely as my partner is childfree too- we travel a lot and volunteer since we have the finances and free time to do so. Wanting to leave a legacy is really narcisstic in my opinion anyway.

I absolutely love this. I lived in misery for years becuase I felt so rushed to have get married and have children. After so many years of terrible boyfriends and now that I finally have a great guy, I simply just don’t care about having children. I took that pressure off me and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.
Plus, not having children is absolutely by far the best thing we can do for the environment. Planet earth doesn’t need more humans.

I'm excited that childfree women are getting more exposure. Many of us have trouble leaving the closet for fear of judgement and rejection in a baby-crazy world. I'm hoping that all this media will make people more aware of how valid our arguments are for not having children.

Have you ever heard someone ask a parent what were their arguments to have kids? Yeah, me neither. You don’t need an argument to present to people as your reason to remain childfree. You don’t need to justify yourself. It’s your decision, period. If people call us selfish for not wanting kids, so be it. I personally think it is selfish to have them because “the husband wants them” or because “the kids will take care of their parents when they’re old”. Unless there’s an actual profound desire to conceive a life and raise a human being, I don’t think anyone should have kids, but unfortunately that’s the default.

I am so glad for this conversation these ladies are having. I grew up in a community where everyone had 6/8 children. I rushed into having a child my first semester in college and i wish i had listened to something like this and understood you can be child free and you are still important and worthy of love. Even if you choose to get married it doesnt mean you have to procreate.

Oh please. I'm a teacher, a male, a primary breadwinner, and it is living paycheck to paycheck, but it is doable. You may not be able to take all the trips you want, or be able to purchase a new car every few years, but you get so much more in return: children. Your children are your heritage, your legacy for future generations. Choosing not to have children is like letting a branch of the family tree die. Your own children are not like your students. Unlike the disrespectful children that are all too often common in today's schools, your love your own children far above and beyond those of some stranger's kid, and they're generally better behaved than what you see in a classroom, granted that you raise them well.

People seem very concerned with painting childfree people (both women and men) as “not necessarily disliking children”, I guess to make them seem less intimidating or deserving of hatred? But I think you failed to mention something crucial: not everyone needs to like children! This doesn’t make them demons. Some people have their anxiety triggered or are extremely annoyed by loud noises and big commotions and that can be more than enough reason to dislike kids. This dislike of children doesn’t make anyone a monster or unlovable, this is just a simple fact showing that we don’t all have to like the same things, and that is okay.
Great point! Personally I don't like being around kids partially because they are loud and don't understand boundaries, this can trigger some sensory processing issues I have. Not liking kids is fine!

I feel so blessed that my husband-to-be was on the same page when we first met. It is probably why we lasted as long as we did! ♥️ I asked him multiple times to ensure he truly did NOT want children. We both look forward to having a family of fur babies in our near future. ☺️

I think that the biggest leap is that people are finally saying, "Look, you have no say in my life." Oh either side, we're just done with other people telling us what to do. Live and let live. Also with less children in this country it means that their will be more jobs, homes and food to go around. Less people means less stress on the country. And look, if you want children, that's cool, just don't expect someone else to do so. I would say for myself that if I should choose to change my mind about wanting children, the choice would only be my choice alone.

I’m 38 and I’ve known since I was about 10 that I never wanted children! I live a very happy life! Having children is the woman’s choice, if you have them be happy, if you don’t have them be happy! There is good and bad in every situation! We have a choice to choose how we live our lives, there are always options and I am very happy in my life! I have tons of free time to pursue my hobbies! I shouldn't have to give up my goals and dreams for some stupid social expectation. Children are a huge responsibility that I don't think I'd ever be ready for. Their expensive, and that kind of lifestyle of staying home and not studying the world around me is not the lifestyle I want to live. I'm tired of people telling me that I'll change my mind. Kids would get in the way of those goals and dreams. Also, as someone who lived in a household with a parent who didn't want me, I don't want to put that kind of pressure on a kid that I don't want. It's cruel to have a kid for the wrong reasons (societal expectations, etc...) So, I don't think it's selfish to not want a kid. I also don't want to fuck up my body, it's already an unhealthy mess. If I ever were to change my mind, it would be far into the future where I am mature enough, and have a strong financial foundation, and a proper environment in which to raise a kind, and I would adopt since there are thousands of kids in the foster care system, and that foster system isn't always the best for kids.
Maybe child free is psychological response to stressed life in bad ecology and overpopulation. Something like natural control of population growth.

Yes, sadly, so many of them reveal their own misery...misery loves company. These are not the types of people who should ever have had kids, but they don't want to admit it. Saddest of all, the kids are likely to have been damaged by these dogmatic folks. Being a parent is a choice, and it should only be chosen by those who truly want it. Nobody can force something like this.
I knew fro the time I was 16 I didn't want children. I saw too many unhappy mothers and the guys, were even more unhappy. I admire women who make this choice. What gets to me is how women, who go to college, work hard to get their degrees and get their careers going suddenly stop and feel they're not satisfied until they have a kid. A lot of it is an emotional decision sometimes it's because of peer pressure. I call it shared misery. All in all, it's like they do something not a lot of people can do (College/Careers) to do something 99.1% of the population can do, make a baby then give up their careers and say "I'm going to stay home and be a full time mom". Careers and raising a family don't mix and is why the divorce rate is so high. They'll always say "That won't be me" Guess again.
