  • Whirlpool Refrigerator Model ED5PVEXWS14 - Slow, Low Water Flow After Water Filter Change - Replace Filter Housing
The water flow from the door was very low after changing the water filter. The water flow to the ice maker was also low because the ice cubes were not fully formed. The valves were fine, but the water filter housing ports must have been partially plugged. Replacing the water filter housing fixed the low water flow issue. I possibly could have cleaned the housing ports to fix this issue, but the housing ports leaked without the water filter installed, so, I suspected the valves could be bad and bought both parts to be safe. I possibly could have fixed this at no cost if I had pulled the housing out and checked and cleaned the ports.

Did yours flow normally when there was no filter installed? Mine is slow with old filter and a new filter, but flows normally when the filter is removed completely.

Yes, it bypassed the filter without it.

@@mchenrykramerso you think the housing is what’s wrong with mine too then, right?

If it now fills slow with your old filter and your new filter it quite possibly could be the housing. If it flows fast without a filter, then the valves are probably okay.

That’s exactly my case. Thanks for the replies and the help!

It would have helped if you took video while u were replacing the housing. Can’t tell what screws you took out, was there any water leak after u removed the hoses, did u turn the water off, etc.

Yes, I turned off the water to the refrigerator. There was some water leaking, but not much when all was disconnected.

I have the same fridge I changed my filter and now it makes a high pitch noise. Also the freezer and fridge don’t stay cool but I can’t find what part I need could you help? I am not sure the part I would need for it.

If you have a high-pitched noise, it is probably air in the line. Either one of the connections to the housing is loose, possibly leaking, and getting air in the line, or there's air getting in the line from the way the filter is seated in the housing. The first thing to try is removing the filter and receding it securely. I have had filters in the past that needed to be free seated securely because they were making a loud noise because of air in the line. Your fridge and freezer not cooling could be many things. It could not be cooling well because you have too much stuff in the freezer and the refrigerator and there's not good airflow with in the refrigerator or the refrigerator. You could have a bad compressor, and it's not turning on and circulating the coolant. The coils under the refrigerator could be dirty, and there is not good airflow getting to them. You could clean the coils under the bottom of the refrigerator. I cleaned my coils under my refrigerator by taking an air compressor and blowing them clean because they are difficult to access. Sorry, I'm not an appliance repair guy, just an electrical engineer having to figure this stuff out for myself. I hope this helps.

@@mchenrykramer thank you! I did clean I try to clean the coils every six months. I’ll double check the filter again. And then I ordered the temp pert to start them going to try the compressor thank you so much I really appreciate it
