I think all the DAB/DAB+ USB Tuners are the same regrdless of brand. Your XTRONS unit as an example is identical to the Eonon version. As much as they may push their own branded things, these USB's are interchangeable. I use one in my car and with the stick on windscreen antenna, it works really well even in built up areas. I did find the splitter type with the slight amplification worked better, but either way will work well consdering these are USB devices. Unfortunately I don't get station art here in Australia, but lot of DAB stations braodcast album artworks and htat can make it look quite pretty.
I had windscreen antenna but as I have a heated windscreen it never worked successfully. Used a a splitter and as I live in good DAB area it works a treat. Do get a DAB+ device as there many more stations using that system.
Ive had an xtrons usb stick floating around since i got rid of my rover 75. So just had a generic android unit in my Vectra c. Didnt even know it could be used on this one. Thanks so much just save me a few hundred quid getting a dab android head unit.😊 Awesome.
I've done this with four different Chinese head units so far and have had mixed results. Window antennas aren't great but have been the best compromise when it comes to reception and ease of installation. Using a splitter with the car's existing FM antenna (with and without amplifier, with original or replacement whip) produced good results in one place and nonexistent results in another; it can also affect the FM signal. But replacing a stock antenna can be a pain due to placement. For example, Nissan Micra K13 has the FM antenna on a slope with two bore holes, so many replacements won't cover both of them or will actually stand straight up. Qashqai J10 has the antenna right at the back of the car in front of the rear hatch, so most antenna bases will be too big or the antenna will hit the door when it opens; wiring all the way through the roof avoiding sunroof and air bags is also a pain. Hence, window antenna.

I inherited an Atoto A6PF when purchasing a 93 this year. I replaced the crumbling stock shark fin with one capable of receiving DAB+ & GPS. (The HU says it can ‘see’ several satellites, so I do have some functionality!) I fitted an adaptor lead to connect the DAB lead to the HU. Although the HU is capable of receiving DAB+, I believe that something is required to ‘translate’ the DAB+ signal for the HU to understand. What I don’t want is something that would include a superfluous internal antenna. I’m confused as to what it is that I do need. Off topic, but as a fellow Saabist, you have probably installed a rear view camera. If so, where did you obtain the signal source to tell the HU that reverse has been engaged? I would like to acquire that signal in the close proximity of the HU, not from the rear light unit. BTW, the connects2 patch leads for steering wheel controls etc - that was also with the car - claims to have a lead that offers just the signal required, but it doesn’t. My guess is that it would function for non manual gearboxes. Any help appreciated! TYIA Mark

Hi there, I bought a Podofo USB DAB+ stick together with the Eightwood DAB+ splitter, because the USB stick is SMA and the splitter SMB, I had to put an adapter in between. everything is connected correctly, I took the antenna out of the head unit as a supply and I connected the black wire to the chassis of the car, if I now connect the dab antenna to the USB stick it switches off, have I missed something? By the way, I have an Opel Astra J with a standard amplifier in the rear window antenna. I would really appreciate your help!

To also let u know XTRONS do a Smaller Antenna which goes at the top of the Windshield by sun visor & it doesn’t not need to be grounded on bare metal either, saves ur the time opening the pillar to look for bare metal. Its out sight for better visibility and saves the annoying look wen your sight catches this bigger box lol. How do i know this?? Because i use XTRONS 😁
Any chance you could link to the aerial you're referring to please? I went down the rabbit hole with DAB when I first installed an Xtrons headunit in my car in 2018 but like a few have said here, could only get decent signal when stationary. Having a VW Eos makes it even more tricky.

You need the USB, because that is the actual radio tuner, but you can likely use your existing antenna with it. Find out what plug the DAB has at the back of the radio, probably a fakra connector, and then get a fakra (or whatever connector you have) to sma, which will screw onto the DAB stick

How about steering wheel remote controls that work with Android head units? My car didn't come with steering wheel controls for stereo and I'm finding it quite difficult to find a remote that will work with Android head unit. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Ceyes CC3 from a Asure PX5 though they don't offer a matching trim replacement or I'll just upgrade one of the existing boards to a PX6, anyone any thoughts on that as I'm expecting Teyes and other brands to start upgrading again. Also diagnostic error codes when switching from a factory head unit to android, anyone had experience with this and the resolution if any please? @saab you mention an upcoming xtron full install vid, thank you for doing that btw. Would be nice to see more full install vids or perhaps a combination vid of you doing the camera, accessories and then splicing recordings of multi head unit fittings, as I'd expect most of the other bits like the camera will be fairly universal apart the odd connector issue.

Hello! Thank you for this detailed video! I have a question about the USB-DAB+ Adapter in general. I want to buy a joying Android 10 Radio. I have had a Headunit with DAB+ before. Therefore i installed a Roof Antenna with DAB+ an FM-Reception with an internal Amplifier, so it needs 12Volt+ over a separate Wire. Here is my Question: Does this work with this configuration too? Which USB-DAB+ Adapter would you recommend (Joying or this Xtron Adapter showing in this Video)?
Hi I have a chinese head unit and have the non USB DAB+ unit attached to the unit and a window glass antenna, unfortunately in australia [melbourne] the infrastructure for transmitting seems to be very erratic, I can get a perfect signal, and then at the traffic lights it stops, move an inch forward it works, and it drops out 2 feet further forward and so on. when it works it is great but it keeps dropping the signal. Is there any point in trying the USB stick to this issue or am i just wasting money? I know there are variables in every country but having DAB+ in a moving vehicle doesnt seem to work, my neighbour has a roof top mounted shark fin antenna and his DAB works fine pretty much everywhere, better radio? better antenna?
Great video! Wanted to ask, if you are using the dab app to listen to your dab but wanted to use android auto for example for your Google maps, in your experience, will both work at the same time or is it a one app at a time deal only? I only ask as in modern car head units, you can use android auto or car play while still listening to you dab.

@@ged5288 ah, I see. You're saying you had factory DAB and want to use that antenna. Well it would be easy enough to find out if it's using the same or different antennas because any antennas will terminate at the radio, so you'll see them

I bought all the items you listed and plugged in to my atoto f7g2a7we android head unit as you stated that it fits atoto heads. However the critical step of installing the dabz seems not to be available. Could you show how to install on this head unit as I have now spent a lot of money on the usb stick and dab adapter cable
The Atoto F7 is not an Android head unit. This video is not relevant for that. If it was an A6 or S8, this would work, but not the F7
Hi , Great video education as ever , but do you offer an installation service as your professional day job ?
I'm an IT operations manager by trade, but I'll occasionally do car stuff for locals if I have the time
@@SaabUnleashed appreciate the ‘instant’ response and continued good fortune your channel ,👍
Anyone know how to add the weather ☁️ on the notification bar? Also add a compass 🧭 as well ?
have you ever used a FAKRA splitter to SMB in order to use the factory aerial? as opposed to the external aerial?
Where can i get the hidden adapter and where to plug in the red cable?
The red wire goes to the red wire on the head unit loom. There are links in the video description
Does anyone what splitter i need for a 2013 focus and xtrons head unit, i have had this xtrons stick on antenna installed and to be honest i hate looking at it in my windscreen
Is the FM antenna splitter just as good as the window sticker antenna?
Depends on the antenna, not an easy one to answer
How about steering wheel remote controls that work with Android head units? My car didn't come with steering wheel controls for stereo and I'm finding it quite difficult to find a remote that will work with Android head unit. I'd like it to work directly with head unit, not controlling phone connected via CarPlay or Android Auto, this is trivial. Thanks.
Can this be used with Apple CarPlay on a Road Angel RAx621bt? Thanks
No, only with Android head units
Assuming I can sort my golf mK5 some sweet egr/turbo/intake clogging I think.
Can somebody tell me, with dab+ there is big difrents?
Where i live i have very bad radio station conecction. Quality is poor.
But on original radio everything is exelent.
With dab it will be better?
Only if you live in a stong DAB area
@SaabUnleashed thank you for answer.
There is any way to check it?
I ordered some iying headunit and paid extra for dab+ version, but I didnt get any dongle in the package, just dab+ antenna. Is it possible that my headunit has dab+ built in? Ive got 4 rp-sma connectors at the back of the unit (gps, wifi 5g, 4g+ and 4g-). Which should I connect lte antena to? (4g+ or 4g-).
4g is for the mobile data connection. None of those connections are for DAB, they probably forgot to provide the usb stick
Is there a way of integrating the DAB into the screens on the head unit (I have an Atoto S8) similar to how the FM radio is displayed? Unlike you, I have nothing on FM but decent DAB - so would like to replace the FM display with DAB.
You'd have to look on the marketplace for a DAB widget
you need to do a best of in theese adapters, because most of theese sucks on the reciver capability
It's more than likely the antenna that's the issue rather than the DAB chipset
Hi, I just purchased an Xtrons unit and a DAB+ dongle. Where do you get the splitter from? Is there a link please?
Btw, your videos convinced me to get an Android unit instead of a branded one. Great work!!
Great video as always, do you know if this adapter will work with a linux based ATOTO F7XE?
I know there are variables in every country but having DAB+ in a moving vehicle doesnt seem to work, my neighbour has a roof top mounted shark fin antenna and his DAB works fine pretty much everywhere, better radio? better antenna?
can you use the usb port at the back of the headunit?
In this video I used a USB port located on the back of the unit
hi look for andriod unit for octavia mk 2/ 2010/ and ideas on best around 300 mark
You can use both simultaneously, but to be honest, why would you use android auto at all. Just use the maps directly on the head unit...
@@SaabUnleashed Thanks for letting me know 👍🏻 Good point just used to using android auto I guess....
Someone knows if can I use it on android TV BOX or Android Stick? Thanks!
Any Android product with a USB port
Just got a joyining top end head unit, found the radio reception pretty bad, previous oem was better. The same the audio quality poor compared with previous oem. Do you think I should use viper for android? Do you have a video on viper?
Are there DAB+ USB adapters better than others ? Because their prices are all over the place
They're all the same that I have seen, and I have seen a lot, you pay for the brand
@@SaabUnleashed Much apricate your honest answer, very helpful and thank you, sir!
I bought the eonon dab usb for my eonon head unit but it doesn’t get recognised by dab-z, anyone else have this issue?
Try a different usb port. If that doesn't work, I'd say the dab stick is faulty
Am I right? With this antenna splitter you can spare one USB connector?
The antenna has nothing to do with the USB port
@@SaabUnleashed so the side with the USB connection from the DAB stick has to go to the USB part from the HU anyway, as the HU needs DAB+.
Both my USB ports are in use, can I use a USB splitter to plug in DAB adaptor?
Yes a USB hub will do the job
I have fitted a DAB+ USB but want to use the built in antenna to connect to the USB is this possible? I have a Toyota C-HR Hybrid 2018
I litterally show how to do that in this video
@@SaabUnleashed But is there not two antenna's one for VHF and one for DAB normally? are you saying its the same antenna for both
@@ged5288 ah, I see. You're saying you had factory DAB and want to use that antenna. Well it would be easy enough to find out if it's using the same or different antennas because any antennas will terminate at the radio, so you'll see them
hi if radio has only one usb can a splitter be used thanks
Yes, you can use a powered USB hub
Would anyone know how to fix my Android head unit it keeps searching for radio stations ?
Dab z newest UI is poor, any other apps out there you can recommend?
is it possible for example with the xtrons units can be run from a small hub as mines only has 2 usb's 1 is the android and apple car play port so dont want to use that, the other is used for the dashcam, so none left ?
Yes you can install a USB hub, you should make sure it is powered though, 12v would be the easiest
Why cant someone make this for the US market on HD Radio. Its insane not a single vendor offers anything!
More than likely to do with licencing
I wouldn't recommend window antennas as thay only work in strong signal areas! I have successfully used an FM antenna splitter in my car and a family members car they both had different antenna conections my car had a fakra conector and the other car had a standard din antenna connector the adapter should be an amplified output for DAB
Where you get the jukebox?
I made it
great solution
thx
Is there an equivalent setup for CarPlay? x
Trying to bring up only the favourite list ?
Where can I get the adapter cable
Hi Stuart, believe that's ur name. Just got hold of a Saab Aero V6 built 11/05. Seen couple vids of people doing all sorts of things to their Saab's, however the most important 1 @ present is radio conversion. Mine has an ICM 2, however interested in putting a ICM 3 in!? Is it possible to purchase all the bits and pieces to change a unit (which still have to get) for apple system along with DAB +??? If so, what is the cost?? I live in Australia so shipping maybe an issue?? Do u require my email or just post on this site?? Look forward to any & all info supplied. Cheers. Vaughan
Hi. Can i use rtl sdr dongle??
If it comes with Android software, yes
didnt work with mine. Stick with FM radio or internet radio
Will this stick from xtrons work with my T'eyes cc3 anyone ?
Yes
