It's alright. The game really could use more sound effects and much more attacks. Part of Cuphead's endless charm was the sound effects and the sheer bullet hell you face on your journey. This feels tame in comparison.
Pretty good game considering it was made by only two people! Big improvements I would suggest are: -More sound effects in a lot of places (bosses and enemies making sounds to signal that's they're about to attack since it seemed like attacks largely only having visual tells lead to JabaPlay not noticing and getting hit a lot; bosses having "immersive" sound effects like foot steps or occasionally doing things like laughing or grunting; a sound playing when a super is ready; etc.) (Watching a game with like no sound effects is always a very strange experience even though it's only happened twice to me. It's always like "wait, something's wrong about this game...oh there's no goddamn sound effects!"); -Having a numerical indicator for health rather than a color/mood indicator, since it's more useful in a fast-paced game with a cluttered screen like this one; -Making things faster, but also spreading things out more if that makes sense? To explain, I mean making most attacks go faster, but having less attacks on screen at once and/or changing the patterns of some to make things flow together better (sound effects would help this work as well); like make the fight shorter and give them less health but make things happen faster. Like bosses tend to just stand around a lot and I think they need to be doing more, so perhaps greater attack variety specifically from the bosses would also help (could also be used to Cuphead bosses going crazy though) (There's other, more specific improvements I could give for specific bosses but I think people get my point) For positives, as many have said before, I enjoy the art/animation and the boss ideas, with the Cow, Princess, Composer, and Cerberus being my favorites, and I think Rocky has a neat idea. They're all quite fun to look at, as are the background and level icons. The music itself is also enjoyable, though a bit basic (and may have to be louder if more sound effects are added), and covers a surprising number of genres. I wish the developers luck on their game making endeavors, because this is a good start/example! :D
Howdy Nessie, crazy to see you here. 😆 I do agree with all that you said however. Sound department was a bit lacking and same with a few visuals. But I think it's a very kool game for the most part with lots of good inspiration from Cuphead. Not so much as a rip-off as people make it sound to be, it's still fresh in it's own ways. Might even get the game myself, looks fun. :D
@@TaterTod Hello!!! didn't expect to see you here either! The game is lacking in several departments but I hope the developers can sort through bad faith criticism and continue to make games
@@nessie-from-earthbound1601 Yeah for sure. For a small studio / team they honestly put some great creativity and ideas throughout the game but it could still use a chunk of work. Gotta start somewhere. 😌
This makes me think, to avoid the Cuphead clone allocations, they could make the style switching into a gimmick for the boss fights. Though Id imagine it being hard to program, especially with such a small team.
To not be accused of being a cuphead clone, don't basucally be a cuphead clone. That's it. This game is basically a fancy mod of Cuphead done in another engine.
For a game that is considered a "Cuphead rip-off", it's surprisingly decent. This looks like something that came straight out of a modern Disney Channel show.
Just love the fact that the magic book itself is the final boss. I think my only complaint with the game is that the animation still needs some polish but that’s about it
Truly, its pretty silent besides the music. It has no sound, animation well its not bad and it would be unfair as it worked on smaller budget than cuphead did, still good
The game seems decent, the only thing bothering me is the lack of attacks besides the different phases that add more attacks or change attacks, animations could do some work too in some occasions. The lack of sounds is also a bother, its just the music and I think the jumps too? The game could do much besides improvements but is quite unique, just lacks certain things
This game’s mechanics, art style and gameplay give off major Cuphead vibes. In fact I think this is a newer version of Cuphead with bosses from other dimensions and more cutscenes.
@@KL53986 If it released 2 years after Cuphead it would have gotten even more flak for trying to ride the coattails of a game more successful than them in such a short amount of time.
This game is so good!... visually Gameplay wise... it works... but that's all it does I hope the best for the artists behind this game because it sure has talent
@@kiwigamer900 bootleg or not the art is still good And I see nothing wrong with having inspirations on Cuphead the gameplay is just really lame That's why I hope the best for the artists because they made some good looking art
I love for like half of the attacks of the first and second boss, you can stand still and do absolutely nothing but shoot. Great game, guys. Edit: oh, of COURSE the coolest looking bosses with the most promotional material got the shortest fights in the world. UGH
the artstyle may be good, but im very dissapointed how it turned out. The game that was promised to be inspired or similar to Cuphead doesn't bring the same nicely gameplay. The sound effects are either lacky to give any sort of impact, or they are as generic as the "punch" afx used for hits The cutscenes are cool, i guess, but hearing the quiet film playout as the bosses theme plays on the backgroud makes it sound janky and not satisfying at all to hear Lastly, the HUD. . .i dont even know whats happening there. Its not simplified as other bullet hell games do
True, artstyle is on good side, animation well on weak side and music i will say besides the music playing its no Orchestra, and well sounds are like nonexistent
I have to say this game is pretty good, sure it’s like Cuphead with its art style, and gameplay wise but the story is different from the game with the brothers defeating the bosses for the soul contracts and the wizards trying to get their book back
Well, it would be absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing if they also copied the story and characters from cuphead. This story also isn't very interesting or creative.
For a first-time game that clearly is inspired by Cuphead, this game actually has its charm. One big pro that makes this better than Cuphead: the art changes One big con that it needs: more time and more budget to make the arts flow right
Honestly, this isn't nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be. Sure, the animations are a bit stilted at points, but there's at least some unique twists, like changing up the battle format mid-fight, changing art-styles... there's clearly some effort put into making it distinct, as much as it makes its Cuphead inspiration apparent. Sound design could do with some work, though. I mean the octopus has a horn attack that hits you with the sound, but it doesn't actually MAKE any sound...
This video is my first time discovering that this game has released. Interesting! It makes sense why people were comparing it to Cuphead. Although I think Cuphead is more preferable, Enchanted Portals looks fun too.
It's made by two people on a tight budget and it turned out pretty good. I just wish that they get themselves a team and remake the game. That would certainly make it much better.
This game is actually quite nice,it honestly gives me more of a nice introduction to cuphead with its bullet hell playstyle, like something to let a newcomer try to get used to what the playstyle of cuphead is like before they get into the absolute madness that cuphead brings.Would like more sound effects and more intense music, especially for the diffirent boss phases. All in all, this game gets a B- from me.pretty good👍🏾
The boss sequences are so random, I mean in cuphead you can tell the bosses gradually become more desperate/wounded as the fight goes on, the bosses in this game just nonchalantly shoot at you while minding their own business and phase switching to something different.
@@Relatablememes2 Cala Maria turning into Medusa make sense because 1) mermaid & medusa are both mythical creatures 2) it means she loses her cool and becomes a monster to fight you. 3) She loses her body, flees but keeps on attacking because she is desperate, that's progression. Look at the sea stage, you fought a hermit crab pirate ship thing, then you fight a giant octopus, and then the ghost of the hermit crab thing without any transition animation, that's random. Yes some boss transformation in Cuphead are random as well like the queen bee & Hilda Berg, but at least the fights are intense and coherent. Look at the rooster fight, he just stood at the background minding his own business while other obstacles attacks you, then turn into a gladiator & a caveman for no reason. I know it's a two person project, but if you are trying to attract the Cuphead crowd, at least understand what makes it good.
I think the artstyle changes are pretty cool, maybe that could’ve been the selling point of the whole game. But wow it’s kinda lame that some of these phases can just be beaten by jumping in place.
Still impressive all that was done with Enchanted Portals since it was made by two people (One did the programming, the other did the art) it just doesn’t have that polish Cuphead does. It’s much more linear and straight forward beginning to end. I do like the Fountain of Time concept in Rocky’s boss fight as well.
I think they should have implemented the different style changes whenever they jumped through a portal. They only utilized it for the first and last boss from the looks of it. Would love to see it go through 80's, 90's and early 2000's style animation for every boss fight.Would be awesome to see styles like South Park cutouts, american anime style (like in the last boss), Family Guy or the old Genndy Tartakovski/CN animation style.
Something that would have helped this game would have been if each boss had a different animation style... In the case of the princess it would have been more Disney, in the case of the witch more Tim Burton, and so on. It would have given more personality to the game.
the art style switching looks good but sometimes the animation and graphics look bad like the bubbles from the first boss they just look like a stock asset and the bosses just look like a repeating animation that hardly ever changes what it does and the sound effects lack any punch
The fact the first and final bosses switch art styles in their final forms makes wonder if this was intended to be a thing for every boss but had to be scrapped for whatever reason.
I like how when someone tries to make a game similar to Cuphead with original characters, everyone cries "BOOO RIPOFF!", but then when Nickelodeon copies Smash Bros with NASB everyone is ok with it because all the characters are from their childhood.
The game has a interesting story and amazing bosses but what somewhat disappointing is that the game seems a little bit unfinished and the game has clunky mechanics but at the same time it was made by 2 people ( if I’m right) so you can’t expect perfection, still for two people and somewhat small budget this game is amazing
Honestly, they shouldn't have done such a monumental task, but it has promise, they should've worked on it much more with the such small budget they had
It's only me or it lacks sound feedback? Like the only that I hear is the music, the jumps and the shoots from the player, this is so bad. Like the Bull boss, WHERE IS THE SOUND OF THE GUNSHOTS?
alright sue me Im not gonna pretend likes its a masterpiece. the bosses feel bland some even just using 1 attack on repeat like meowitch and the chicken, and a lot of the animations could use work. a big thing is the lack of sound effects which make the game feel really empty. also this could just be a personal issue but the art style changes while a creative idea make the game just feel inconsistent but maybe that's just me.
Honestly, I love it Although it's a parody, they have little in common other than the gameplay. I love that I can get even more unusual characters, because in the original game I already know everyone
Wow….ok let’s run them down, I ain’t naming the bosses since….I don’t want to 1st boss: kinda Mortimer freeze 2nd boss: the devil + dr khals robot 3rd boss: captain brineybeard + Cala maria 4th boss: Cagney carnation 5th boss: I guess ester Winchester? 6th boss: I really don’t know…..I guess sally stageplay if you think about it Mini boss 1: king dice Mini boss 2: the tipsy troop Final boss: literally every boss you faced so far with a mix up, or you can say chef saltbaker
The ending tells me that there's gonna be DLC for this game in the future. Where the final boss is the Book of Magic with its dad? Grandfather? Predecessor?
It looks good, but I wish they’d gone full-on with the style changes. Maybe each boss could’ve been in a different style and the game would be a celebration of all animation instead of just the 20s-30s.
The game isn't perfect, but it's more than just a Cuphead ripoff. Many of the bosses are really creative, and while some animations are lacking, some are really good!
3:59 why does that music sounds like "Stayin' alive" by Bee Gees? 9:07 and why does this one sound like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's take on "Spiral mountain" from "Banjo-Kazooie"?
at first I was confused about the Rocky boss. But then I figured out that the fountain in the background must be the fountain of youth. He falls into the fountain each phase and then goes back in time (even though that’s not how the fountain of youth works). When you kill him he falls into the fountain and becomes a chick in an egg (which is how it actually works). Thank you for coming to my pep talk 🤓.

I do not mind at all that it looks similar to Cuphead. People love Cuphead and want more like it, so here it is, and it still has its own look.
Especially for most of times.
Pretty good game considering it was made by only two people!
Big improvements I would suggest are:
-More sound effects in a lot of places (bosses and enemies making sounds to signal that's they're about to attack since it seemed like attacks largely only having visual tells lead to JabaPlay not noticing and getting hit a lot; bosses having "immersive" sound effects like foot steps or occasionally doing things like laughing or grunting; a sound playing when a super is ready; etc.) (Watching a game with like no sound effects is always a very strange experience even though it's only happened twice to me. It's always like "wait, something's wrong about this game...oh there's no goddamn sound effects!");
-Having a numerical indicator for health rather than a color/mood indicator, since it's more useful in a fast-paced game with a cluttered screen like this one;
-Making things faster, but also spreading things out more if that makes sense? To explain, I mean making most attacks go faster, but having less attacks on screen at once and/or changing the patterns of some to make things flow together better (sound effects would help this work as well); like make the fight shorter and give them less health but make things happen faster. Like bosses tend to just stand around a lot and I think they need to be doing more, so perhaps greater attack variety specifically from the bosses would also help (could also be used to Cuphead bosses going crazy though)
(There's other, more specific improvements I could give for specific bosses but I think people get my point)
For positives, as many have said before, I enjoy the art/animation and the boss ideas, with the Cow, Princess, Composer, and Cerberus being my favorites, and I think Rocky has a neat idea.
I do agree with all that you said however.
This game NEEDS death animations
Hay juegos creados por una sola persona que le dan mil vueltas a este juego
This makes me think, to avoid the Cuphead clone allocations, they could make the style switching into a gimmick for the boss fights. Though Id imagine it being hard to program, especially with such a small team.
To not be accused of being a cuphead clone, don't basucally be a cuphead clone. That's it.
This game is basically a fancy mod of Cuphead done in another engine.
For a game that is considered a "Cuphead rip-off", it's surprisingly decent. This looks like something that came straight out of a modern Disney Channel show.
Fr, this game gives me Molly McGee and Owl House vibes.
No 😐
I think that’s what they were going for. Cup Head is like a Looney Tunes cartoon. This is more like Disney
@@Pridetoons yes 😐
@@KOOPAS1234 For me, it looks similar to the 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoon (and guess what, the show ended last month).
Mom I want Cuphead!
We already have Cuphead at home!
Cuphead at home:
I totally called It that The Book Of Spell would easily be the Final Boss since day 1!
Just love the fact that the magic book itself is the final boss. I think my only complaint with the game is that the animation still needs some polish but that’s about it
Ok this isnt entirely "bad", just needs more sound ngl
Truly, its pretty silent besides the music. It has no sound, animation well its not bad and it would be unfair as it worked on smaller budget than cuphead did, still good
The game seems decent, the only thing bothering me is the lack of attacks besides the different phases that add more attacks or change attacks, animations could do some work too in some occasions. The lack of sounds is also a bother, its just the music and I think the jumps too? The game could do much besides improvements but is quite unique, just lacks certain things
I just noticed the bosses changes there art style during the fight and even the playable characters also got there Styles changes too.
It’s just to cut corners sadly.
This game’s mechanics, art style and gameplay give off major Cuphead vibes. In fact I think this is a newer version of Cuphead with bosses from other dimensions and more cutscenes.
If it released like 2 years after cuphead ok it would be quite Stinky but almost 6 years... you cant say its not relevant
@@KL53986especially with the astounding dlc coming out just last year
@@KL53986 If it released 2 years after Cuphead it would have gotten even more flak for trying to ride the coattails of a game more successful than them in such a short amount of time.
I bet it does cause it's a rip off of Cuphead just done worse.
It's just a cuphead clone
This game is so good!... visually
Gameplay wise... it works... but that's all it does
I hope the best for the artists behind this game because it sure has talent
you do realize this game is a cuphead bootleg right?
@@kiwigamer900 bootleg or not the art is still good
And I see nothing wrong with having inspirations on Cuphead the gameplay is just really lame
That's why I hope the best for the artists because they made some good looking art
yeah, even if the game WISHES to be cuphead, i still enjoy the art
it really feels like a "we have cuphead at home" game isnt?
She was in awe of Cuphead so she took a swing at it with borderline no budget and like two other people
I love how this game looks significantly worse than it did in the trailers
@@kaos5633Ikr that’s why I was kinda dissapointed how the game actually was
Yeah, but at least it's honest with the fact.
I feel the game was rushed out or something like that
Ok, I got to admit that, while the game looks similar to Cuphead, the style for the bosses are pretty entertaining.
It sucks that the conducter fight is so short. I wish it was just longer
I love for like half of the attacks of the first and second boss, you can stand still and do absolutely nothing but shoot. Great game, guys.
Edit: oh, of COURSE the coolest looking bosses with the most promotional material got the shortest fights in the world. UGH
the sound design is just...wow.
It’s so bad right
the artstyle may be good, but im very dissapointed how it turned out.
The game that was promised to be inspired or similar to Cuphead doesn't bring the same nicely gameplay.
The sound effects are either lacky to give any sort of impact, or they are as generic as the "punch" afx used for hits
The cutscenes are cool, i guess, but hearing the quiet film playout as the bosses theme plays on the backgroud makes it sound janky and not satisfying at all to hear
Lastly, the HUD. . .i dont even know whats happening there. Its not simplified as other bullet hell games do
True, artstyle is on good side, animation well on weak side and music i will say besides the music playing its no Orchestra, and well sounds are like nonexistent
To be honest they should fix the animation and add sound
@@basharbawab1980 well the fame was released this way, meaning *this state* of the game was enough for a full release.
20:18 LOVE the design on this kid wizard.
Same. The player looks terrible tho.
It’s not horrible! It definitely has major charm, it’s creative, the art is nice to look at
I have to say this game is pretty good, sure it’s like Cuphead with its art style, and gameplay wise but the story is different from the game with the brothers defeating the bosses for the soul contracts and the wizards trying to get their book back
Well, it would be absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing if they also copied the story and characters from cuphead. This story also isn't very interesting or creative.
I can tell that this game can be a succesful Bethoven-like symphony because of its music.
is it just me or despite the conductor fight being short the theme is FIRE
For a first-time game that clearly is inspired by Cuphead, this game actually has its charm.
One big pro that makes this better than Cuphead: the art changes
One big con that it needs: more time and more budget to make the arts flow right
Honestly, this isn't nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be.
Feels nostalgic, like a flash game.
All in all, this game gets a B- from me.pretty good👍🏾
the conductor has so much potential, and it all went away
"Mom, can we have cuphead?"
"No we have cuphead at home"
Cuphead at home:
Yes. Absolutely CupHead here. Great Boss fight Jaba ❤❤❤
The Animation in this game is so half-assed! The presentation is Cardboard in nature. This game is just a Cuphead Cash-In like Fearmonium.
The boss sequences are so random, I mean in cuphead you can tell the bosses gradually become more desperate/wounded as the fight goes on, the bosses in this game just nonchalantly shoot at you while minding their own business and phase switching to something different.
Bro what do you mean? Cuphead has the same thing with things like a bee turning into a jet or Cala Maria turning into fucking Medusa
Honestly not that bad for a fan game, but man you really understand the importance of sound effects when they’re missing 😂
subscribed for the boss-labels. I really like the design. They make my brain happy.
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this game to come out so soon!
This is definitely a game with things and stuff
Something that would have helped this game would have been if each boss had a different animation style... In the case of the princess it would have been more Disney, in the case of the witch more Tim Burton, and so on. It would have given more personality to the game.
the art style switching looks good but sometimes the animation and graphics look bad like the bubbles from the first boss they just look like a stock asset and the bosses just look like a repeating animation that hardly ever changes what it does
and the sound effects lack any punch
I wish Cerberus and Conductor fights lasted longer because they look so cool.
I hope they make a sequel to this.
The fact the first and final bosses switch art styles in their final forms makes wonder if this was intended to be a thing for every boss but had to be scrapped for whatever reason.
People have got to stop harping on this game for being inspired by cup head, it is clearly doing its own thing
13:23 my favorite 1800s weapon. The minigun.
click here 14:23 to see rocky boss fight again and because that first phase is nice and good in cool way
19:45 OH GOD THE TREE'S BACK FOR REVENGE!!!
I like how when someone tries to make a game similar to Cuphead with original characters, everyone cries "BOOO RIPOFF!", but then when Nickelodeon copies Smash Bros with NASB everyone is ok with it because all the characters are from their childhood.
People are blinded with nostalgia, this isn't new.
I guess it only matters whenever the game is good or bad
I love how the second phase pf the cow boss is just disco, and seeing the character locked into a pose is hilarious XD
@@theant4184 I agree
there is some cool boss designs here. although i'm a sucker for that 1930s animation artistic style. the cow is particularly cool
It's only me or it lacks sound feedback?
Like the only that I hear is the music, the jumps and the shoots from the player, this is so bad.
Like the Bull boss, WHERE IS THE SOUND OF THE GUNSHOTS?
Pretty sure the only boss with a sound effect is the conductor (which btw why is him and the dogs 30 seconda each...)
Also a feedback of when you kill a boss or end a phase other than that slideshow is really needed.
@@goldsnake90So true
also the bosses look like they should make a sounds like the caveman rooster yells quietly
the conductor deserved more to his fight . it was over and done in less than a full minute
I'm still mad we spent the whole game chasing this book ONLY for the book to be evil ...
The book is a little devious
Honest review JabaPlay. How was this experience for you?
at the end
evil wizard: noooooooo
book of magic: oooooo
boy and girl wizard: yeah high five
Child: hey mom, can we get cuphead?
Mom: no honey, we have cuphead at home
Cuphead at home:
alright sue me Im not gonna pretend likes its a masterpiece.
the bosses feel bland some even just using 1 attack on repeat like meowitch and the chicken, and a lot of the animations could use work. a big thing is the lack of sound effects which make the game feel really empty. also this could just be a personal issue but the art style changes while a creative idea make the game just feel inconsistent but maybe that's just me.
Honestly, I love it Although it's a parody, they have little in common other than the gameplay. I love that I can get even more unusual characters, because in the original game I already know everyone
It needs a little polish. The animation is definitely there. Just a little more work, if there is one thing this needs more sound effects.
I agree.
Wow….ok let’s run them down, I ain’t naming the bosses since….I don’t want to
1st boss: kinda Mortimer freeze
2nd boss: the devil + dr khals robot
3rd boss: captain brineybeard + Cala maria
4th boss: Cagney carnation
5th boss: I guess ester Winchester?
6th boss: I really don’t know…..I guess sally stageplay if you think about it
Mini boss 1: king dice
Mini boss 2: the tipsy troop
Final boss: literally every boss you faced so far with a mix up, or you can say chef saltbaker
The ending tells me that there's gonna be DLC for this game in the future. Where the final boss is the Book of Magic with its dad? Grandfather? Predecessor?
"Babe I'm coming home yo ass better not be a mobile game ripoff of Cuphead"
My goofy ass:
It looks good, but I wish they’d gone full-on with the style changes. Maybe each boss could’ve been in a different style and the game would be a celebration of all animation instead of just the 20s-30s.
Hello friend, I wanted to make an animation for you, to order, how can I contact you?
this game is actually terrible i didnt think itd be this bad
0:31 🎵 The Magic Labyrinth of I... M... MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-EEE-EEE-EEE-EEEEEEEEN!!! 🎵
I’m honestly surprised this game made it into full release and I thought that someone just sampled bits from the trailer and made a game out of it
Nah that’s what I thought. Like they really just showed every boss and every phase in the trailers huh 😐
Good job suffering through this to give us this video XD
The game isn't perfect, but it's more than just a Cuphead ripoff. Many of the bosses are really creative, and while some animations are lacking, some are really good!
I agree too!
I wish this game could have been properly funded and made, I feel like there was some good things here
Say, why are the villains attacking the main characters anyway?
3:59 why does that music sounds like "Stayin' alive" by Bee Gees?
9:07 and why does this one sound like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's take on "Spiral mountain" from "Banjo-Kazooie"?
The conductor fight was looking actually great, but then it ENDED IN 1 PHASE COME ON
at first I was confused about the Rocky boss. But then I figured out that the fountain in the background must be the fountain of youth. He falls into the fountain each phase and then goes back in time (even though that’s not how the fountain of youth works). When you kill him he falls into the fountain and becomes a chick in an egg (which is how it actually works). Thank you for coming to my pep talk 🤓.
also this game is trash.
