The milk and coffee pods on the Dolce Gusto machines are both separate, you don't have to use the milk pods if you don't want to. And the variety of drinks available for the Dolce Gusto machines now is around 45.
It is possible to buy reusable Dolce Gusto pods which seem to work very well in my experience. This means you can use any store bought ground coffee or freshly ground beans which is great!
I agree the flavour from nespresso pods are better but as I already own a dolce gusto I only had to buy the converter pod holder to use the nespresso pods I do like to use a steam wand also aswell as the auto milk warmer and frothing machine there are just so many options when you own a dolce gusto compared to a nespresso machine
Variety of dolce gusto is better, taste of Nespresso is slightly better. It comes down to personal preference. I myself have opted for a Dolce Gusto, because I love the variety and it beats my former Senseo machine on every level. It's great to easily make a latte or cappuccino without having to prepare and clean my milk foamer before and after. I get many flavors, even teas and chocolate milk. That is something that Nespresso can't do. However, if you're into GREAT tasting coffee, like almost freshly ground, I'd recommend Nespresso. It comes very close and if you don't mind to put in a little extra work for a latte or cappuccino, or aren't even really fond of specialty coffees... Then I'd say go for Nespresso, you won't regret it.
