- With huge thanks to Aston Martin Bristol, I finally get to experience a car I've wanted to drive since it launched in 2019... the Aston Martin Rapide AMR! Paul and I go for a short test drive to see if it can live up to my expectations.

Rapide AMR represents the ultimate evolution of a spectacular & versatile sports car. With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language, Aston Martin has taken Rapide to new and exciting extremes.
Drawing inspiration from the concept car unveiled to great acclaim at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Rapide AMR further enhances this charismatic four-door sports car. Incorporating a comprehensive suite of power, chassis and styling upgrades - plus a new interior treatment.
The design of the new Rapide AMR has changed little from the concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017, with a large and aggressive front grille that is reminiscent of the extreme track-only Vantage AMR Pro. Meanwhile the circular daytime running lights recall the recent Zagato models.
At the heart of the Rapide AMR is a naturally aspirated drivetrain that draws much of its technology and character from the potent Aston Martin Vantage GT12. Larger inlet manifolds with tuned length dual inlet runners enhance the airflow into the 6.0-litre V12 engine and, combined with new engine and gearbox calibration, this results in an increase in power.

After driving a vanquish S, DB9, DB7 6 and 12 cylinder I’ve always found them majorly overrated. Big heavy lumps that sound good but aren’t particularly thrilling
@@2702simmo you missed the point of them. Yes, big. Yes, heavy. But incredibly beautiful styling and materials, and a road presence to die for. They are not light nimble sports cars and don't pretend to be.
Looked like a lot of fun to film. Now looking forward to the “after the chequered flag” on the BTG podcast!

I have a Rapide S shadow edition. Best exotic I’ve ever owned. There is no other 4 door/ 4 seat n.a V12 with the looks and noise this thing makes. It’s a truly unique car and will become increasingly sought after as nobody will ever make a car like this again. Would love to see a comparison video of the AMR vs Rapide S!
I do have both of 'em. Although the S version Touchtronic 2. I love the Rapide S for daily use.
@@jonathanrex Does AMR have significantly different sound? If so, how is it different? I love driving my Rapide in manual mode around town, it gives me just enough aural pleasure at not so illegal speeds, lol
@@sidelnie If you remove the relevant circuit breaker in the Rapide S, which I absolutely recommend to do, the difference is marginal. The sound of an Aston V12 is majestic. I never use the gear buttons (except for reverse ;-)). You get much better control with paddle shifters.
@@jonathanrex agreed! I almost never use D, I like to ring it though the gears around town, D upshifts too quickly for me. Around town, I keep it in 3rd at most and on the highway in 5th. I find this gives the best aural pleasure. This car was made for the sound, it’s so hard to drive anything else after this. 😀

Me and my partner had a good laugh at it when we checked out how bad they were not long after we got the car! 😂

I guess a downside is the infotainment but you don't buy an Aston Martin for the infotainment.

Safe to say when topgear featured the Aston Martin rapide and Maseratti Quattraporte, I knew I was in love. The Rapide is an amazing family car NO ONE asked for but we all wanted.

Problem with the rapide is that the back seats are too small & thé quattraporte is too unreliable. Panamera all the way in the real world

@@seanyworny104 Panamera (in Turb form) is a blisteringly quick and capable 4 door car but utterly devoid of character, which the Rap has in spades!

Just buy it. You can see how much you enjoyed it I have bought two of my dream cars in the past and they were worth every penny. Also would go so well with your ferrari perfect 2 car garage I think.
I totally agree, Sam loved his f type because he could do anything in it and drove it everywhere and enjoyed it because of the beautiful soundtrack, and in my opinion this car does everything the f type does but better

My neighbor has a Ripide and he loves it!.... and as a car guy I absolutely love hearing him start it. Cars like these are becoming extinct and it's sad that future generations will have no clue at how wonderful cars once sounded.
Pretty sure there's an 8-speed ZF in the AMR. So it should be nice and smooth, and fairly quick.

I am pretty sure only the Vanquish of that era got the ZF, the rest were on Aston's automated manual slush box or a manual.

@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks ah, no. The latest Vanquish and Rapide S from 2015 and AMR all got the ZF 8 speed auto Touchtronic 3.
This is my 3rd comment. BUY THIS CAR! What an amazing sounding and looking machine! It’s rare, no one has one on UA-cam, the mods/content you could do would be epic, the list goes in mate! You’d be mad to buy a mass produced Jag over a limited V12 Aston!

Perfect balance. The last v12 pre amg astons (apart from the vantage I believe) were given the zf 8 speed instead of the single clutch. That is why this rapide was so smooth :)

Buy it! It's the ultimate version of the Rapide. I have a Rapide S, which I absolutely love for all the reasons you gave here, but the AMR is up several notches of course. Under the radar overlooked, and under-rated, but the Rapide is possibly the best of the Gaydon era cars when rated across all abilities. Naturally aspirated V12, the last and best version. Stunning!

Agree completely! An overlooked V12 with some practicality and awesome sound. Unbeatable combination...
It’s a wonderful car… There are only 500 worldwide and it is, & will be more so, a collectible vehicle given the demise of V12s, not only the AM lineup, but in general, as turbo 4 and 6 cylinders take over. If you can buy it you should. I bought mine two years ago (AM Racing Green with neon stripe & knight blue full leather interior ) & have 4K miles of joyfully spirited driving under my belt. The car handles incredibly well and the carbon ceramic brakes bring it to a halt in very short order. It’s also a head turner…people just love to look at it & are curious about what it is. It also was the 1st AM with wired CarPlay…an added bonus that makes the lack of great infotainment sting less. No touchscreen either but the “back” button and scroll wheel make navigating thru the display simple. Overall 10 out of 10 vehicle!

I love the rapide. All of the rapide models. I've owned a DB7 before which I sadly had to sell. In 2031 the rapide can be imported to my country without importation fees. I've already told my girlfriend that I will get one then. Astons are simply brilliant.

I think that the gearbox is a regular torque converter, not a single clutch like the SPORTSHIFT, which was fitted to the Vantage. Those torque converters are by far the best kind of gearboxes

It looks and sounds phenomenal. I would love to have one in my garage.
One of my colleagues has one, I followed it the other evening and it sounds immense, doing our bit for climate change a V8 following a V12....
Whatever we try, the earth is going to change in any way. There are certain things you can't avoid. So don't feel guilty mate, keep driving them :)
I can assure you, it's not V12 Astons that are destroying the planet. It's coal plants in China and commuters in Priuses, driving thousands of miles a year on the way to their inefficient offices and climate activist protests on the weekends.

Remember watching about 10 Aston Martins from Dusseldorf visiting Glenshee ski centre when i was there...lucky, lucky people fabulous soundtrack on arrival on a fabulous road.
If I was rich, the Aston Martin Rapide AMR would be my daily driver.
Incredible engine, timeless design and ticks almost every box.
I'd take this over a Project 7 or any F Type or modern Jag any day

I love this car so much. It is the nicest 4 door car ever made. It can do everything, but it can't do anything the best, which is what makes it overlooked. A very weird car to own as the cost to daily it would be insane and it isn't the best weekend car. Fits everything and nothing, but I still love it

I own a Rapide S and having owned several other exotics and luxury cars, the Rapide is by far been the most rewarding experience. It’s very practical yet gives you all the exotic car you could ask for. It’s beauty is simply second to none. Even People that don’t know what it is, stop to ask exactly what it is And yes the I agree, the worst part abt this car is the sun visors indeed 😂
Aston Martin is already underrated and the Rapide is their most underrated or overlooked. Sad but I always adore them.

I just bought a 2015 Rapide S...What this review makes clear is just how easy it is to fall in love with the Rapide...I bought mine without test-driving the S trim and within 5 days was already in love...This is not true of most modern cars!
