My barn was sided like that. I did not know they had a name for that type of construction but it went through Hurricane Michael with no damage to the structure. And yes, the top must also be constructed the same as the rest of the building. Oh and y'all are still kids so enjoy it while you can. Life goes by faster the older you get. 😂
It makes for a stronger building than just screwing on flat 2x6s ! Thanks for watching.
Funny story, ten years later. All of our barns are built by Wicks Pull barns except, ten years ago we had one built by a local builder who told us how much he could save us. Two weeks after completion it literally raised up out of the ground and kind of collapsed in a round pile. The builder claimed it was an "act of God" and he wasn't responsible. Our Farm insurance and the court found differently , and Wicks built us another barn.
Ouch....that was not funny at the time!!
Building and doing projects together is very rewarding and it is great to see other couples enjoying sharing the process and in the results. Communication can be a challenge . Deb the answer to all of your questions is yes 😀
We do projects together and stay married somehow! Thanks for watching! Here's a recent one: ua-cam.com/video/IV2uPsUZGv8/v-deo.html
He said that’s not going anywhere
That is a rookie mistake
Phrases: that ain’t going nowhere
stage fright!!
After watching multiple videos of yours, I subscribed. I love that area you live in. I used to live in Santa Rosa county and was planning to live there for the rest of my life, but employment took me out west. I’m looking to buy a tractor and build a pole barn on my 4 acres of land. I don’t think I’ll make it back to Florida which I’m from. Keep tractoring
Thanks for the support!
Nicely done.
I would have started with the center section. Cut the perlins all the same length and applied them with the bookshelf. Then I would do either end section without cuttin the perlins which would extend past the corner post. After everything is installed I would cut the end off with my skill saw leaving a 1 1/2" reviel. The perlins on the ends would be butted into the 2x6's and left randon at the front to be dealt with later. But that's just me, a man near 70.
good tips!
I think, after a snack and a nap, you are going to move that one shelf that is out of place before the siding goes up. I know I wouldn't want to stare at that for the rest of my life. It would drive me crazy to know another 10 minutes would make it right.
Stay tuned because this may come up again in a future video!! Thanks for watching.
You beat me to it. I was gonna say, in the next video, 56 year old Brad got some rest and decided to move that board. It would drive me crazy and I would have to move it.
Great job guys. Also good to see that you’re able to work together and keep it civil, at least, for the camera.
Thanks! After 18 years, we've kinda figured out each other!
😃
Awesome new subscriber 2nd video I watched of yours and got to be like 0:46 1000
Welcome!
I absolutely love your interaction and ability to work together! You all are making great progress to Piney Grove! I agree with the wife you do seem to like moving things alot,!
I should probably plan things a little better!! Thanks for the support.
@@PineyGroveHomestead i really thought you like riding your tractors and saying the name so you needed things to move.... Lol! I get it, do what works for you, I just love what I see in each video!
Love your videos and enjoy watching your journey, on your beautifuI Florida land, from here in New Brunswick Canada. Can't wait till you start the build on the main house. Blessings!
Thanks so much! We working with the builder now!

I never had seen the book shelf method of strengthening the braces. But, it sure makes sense.
Lots of "Learning" from your experiences!!!
Enjoy your project.
GOD Bless You Both
It makes the building solid! Thanks for watching.
It's incredible to see Deb getting into using and enjoying whatever tool it's needed for the task. You are an amazing lady.
What a fun working video. Thank you Brad and Deb.
She's always apprehensive at the beginning, but then she ends up enjoying it at the end! Thanks for watching.
Should have made it with Concrete Blocks all the way around.

I found out, it’s best just to leave them alone. Do every thing on your own and you only have to argue with yourself. The less you expect the happier you both will be.
Hell, I’d be happy for my wife to hand me my cell phone if I fell off the ladder and I couldn’t reach it so I could phone 911. 😂😂
Good advice. And keep your cell phone in your pocket!!
You 2 are amazing and your both doing what most couple don’t do enough of❤Makes you appreciate each other so much👍
Thank you so much!!
I really like the bookshelf design. Where were are going to build our shop has alot of wind.
It strengthens the walls a lot!
1 Book Shelf Framing? AKA Strong Back! Looks like you are not too far from Old Town!! Great video!!
Thanks. Final product here: ua-cam.com/video/BdZvpoqZiJY/v-deo.html
Yeah, after 45 torx screws are the way to do it. The wife can even bury these in the wood. Phillips screws take much more shoulder strength to turn in.
Agree! We really like these Cats Claw lag screws!
You two get along and work together like my husband and I do. So much fun watching.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
WHY would you use cat claw BUTT not all the way down the board you changed screws the ones that don't work as good bad choice
It will be there 100 years from now.
& More Edditing. Correcting.😂
LUV the Brittany Spaniel; we had a female for 16 years.
Bella is our third one....we love the breed. Thanks for watching!
Deb Needs Another Drink 😂😂😂
Great job. Was lots of fun watching you two.😊
Glad you enjoyed it! We were happy to make some progress.
Deb you are doing great and, like my wife, loving the power tools. I would eyeball the screw at halfway since it would be covered by tin.
And why does Deb get the short ladder? That makes no sense.
In South Texas we would not book shelf the braces as a Tornado is much more powerful than a 2x6. Same for Hurricanes. But we might run a diagonal cable for racking resistance.
My wife's OCD would NEVER let me keep the middle one out of sync. She gets upset when two door openings are 1/4" height different 20 ft apart.
Thanks! Impact drivers are so fun!
Nice work guys! I bet book shelving those wall girts really stiffen up the wall.
Yes sir! No pole barn wobble and shake!
She needs Safety Belt & Hardhat
Great video! I would measure the center. But I made 2 jigs to drill holes for a gate I built out of deck boards so the fasteners would be symmetrical.🤔 The book shelf makes sense for a 12’ opening. Be Safe!
Another fellow symmetrical guy....I love it. Thanks for watching.
So is she available to hire 🤔? To save construction costs I will only need her .
She gave up! The rest of the story: ua-cam.com/video/BdZvpoqZiJY/v-deo.html
Book shelf…..Yes absolutely. More is better😆😆😆

Love your channel I'm with deb on this one eyeball it
Glad you enjoy it! We had to call in help to finish this building: ua-cam.com/video/BdZvpoqZiJY/v-deo.html
The barn is looking great. During a scanning shot towards the end, the Sesame Street song “One of these Things” started running through my head. Looking forward to seeing the barn complete.

Great Channel! Subbed! Dave In WV!
Awesome! Thank you!
I say 2Margitaias drinks Blue Hagavi.
Ok question if you book shelf you couldn't come back and frame the interior walls if you were going to live in a pole barn.
If I was living in a post beam structure like a pole barn, I would frame it just like a regular house. I'm guessing that codes would require that too. Like this build: ua-cam.com/video/IkBMM-n5UP4/v-deo.html
In Hawaii ‘.we say “PONO “ you do it the right way the first time with love.. your team work is Awesome stay safe 😎
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed your video, I understand you wanting to bookshelf it as far as the storms go.
Thanks for watching!
she just grabbed my butt he says! he told me to push on his butt she says! well if thats all there is then i see nothing wrong! Definitely not OSHA approved butt Brad approved! lol 😂😂😂😂
Keep it family friendly, Deb!! 🤣🤣🤣
@@PineyGroveHomestead she did what you wanted her to do! lol
Uh HuH😂😂😂😂
Brad
How is it you know what you do about constructing of buildings?
My Dad was a union carpenter before he was a farmer, so I've seen him build a lot over my lifetime. And we've had several building built on Piney Grove in the past 6 years.....you can learn a lot watching and filming other people work!!
I'm with Brad on this... measure everything!
It only takes a second, right?!
That's bout as fast as an Amish pole barn crew!
We're not fast, but we are old!! 🤣🤣
Are you SURE you're 56? ONLY 56?
You feel better making a rude comment? Go back under your rock.
Actually, I feel terrific, and not just after making a (non-rude) joke. I'm 70, look and feel very well; not sensitive at all about my age. But wow, looks like I hit a sore spot with you -- sorry! Anyhow, vid was entertaining.
By the way, who's the rude one? LOLOL
@@Ken-k1h You
Margarita sounds good!
Yes they do! Thanks for watching.
Teamwork!
We are slow but we get there!
Yall are a riot!
Glad you enjoyed it!
