Definitely can. I’ve seen people fishing the Shimano Stellas. Phenomenal reels. Have seen numerous upon numerous 150-200 pound bluefin caught in a matter of 30 or so minutes. These spinning reels aren’t like they were in the 90s and early 00s. They hold up the fight no problem

Don’t forget that people fish the poppers on these spinning reels on monster tuna as well. I have a setup for them also when they are foaming

Definitely there’s a learning curve on spinning gear. Love spinning tackle. Stick to jigging rods less than 6’ for 100lb bft+. Stay away from 8 foot plugging rods, unless you’re a real man with a strong back. Any reel would do the job with 65lb braid, 300yards minimum.

I will say be careful with the daiwa's in that 250 price range. The only reason is the saltist uses (admittedly large) zinc main gears. The penn battle uses aluminum and the DX uses Brass for half the price. The Saltist may be fine but id feel a lot more confident with brass or stainless steel. Saragosa's and Slammers hold up fine in my experience and the slammer dx gets you into stainless gears. Twin power and Catalina are phenomenal reels (i'd trust a penn authoruty but haven't used one.) and a Saltiga is my preferred at its price range but Stella's are great.
I Love Daiwa but man i wish they stepped up the main gear materiel's.

I bought a Seeker 8' foot rod with a Shimano Trinidad 20a and had the worst time casting it out trying to get the bluefin that where at Catalina on a party boat. So i decided to buy a brand new Saragosa 20000 with a daiwa 7'4 Proteus and try my luck again this year. Good luck out there this year Lady's and gent's hope you catch your Dream fish

Make spinning reels great again 🇺🇸🤣 I don’t use them but have seen some nice tuna caught on them . It’s nice to have the rail when needed, but they sure do work fine on the larger fish.

I asked Sam De La Torre from Island Fishing Tackle about this and he is not familiar with the rods you mentioned. Let us know if we can help in some other way my friend. Thank you for sharing.

I don't care if you have a 1400.00 Stella coffee grinder if you're fishing it on a busy tuna deck with large tuna yourenick name is going to be hacksaw
