Very informative review on the making of this classic. Other than Prey, I can't say that I'm a big fan of the sequels. The Predator franchise has a simple hunter-prey formula that other than settings/characters has little originality. Prey works best because of its 1812 setting within the Comanche Nation of the Great Plains. The characters are well drawn and complex along with the fantastic world building. I agree with David that it seems a bit far fetched that Naru could single-handedly defeat the Predator; I really wished her brother survived to double team and defeat the monster, which would have been more realistic. I understand the new film by Prey's director will be another standalone set in the near future, hopefully it's as good as Prey. I would love to see more Predator films set in the distant past like in the Sengoku period of Japan with samurais being the prey or imagine a story set in the Age of Chivalry with the Predator hunting King Arthur's knights.
We're glad you enjoyed the video! We had a lot of fun making this one, it's been on our list for a very long time. We are quite excited to see a Predator film in a future setting, purely because that's not something we've seen outside of video games. David remembers playing Aliens Vs Predator and AVP: Extinction when you got to see the Colonial Marines take on the Predators. A Japan setting would be very cool, we know that is the fan favourite idea for a sequel, a medieval setting would actually be very cool, Excalibur could end up being some kind of Predator technology. Or we could have Robin Hood vs Predator! Even a pirate themed film could be a lot of fun, put the Predator at sea, have the first half the film be similar to The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The franchise has so many possibilities, we're just bored of them always setting the final showdown in the forest, using mud.
@@ycft It's pretty amazing that after Prey the Predator franchise has gone from a dead sub-genre to a world of new possibilities. I don't play video games, so I've never heard of the Predator in a future setting. I understand that the Alien comic books/novels also have pretty interesting storylines that can be adapted for the movies. I don't know why Hollywood hasn't bothered to use these stories from other media to make good Alien/Predator movies.
@@guillermo9631 Now that Disney own both Predator and Alien, we could potentially get another cross-over int he future. There's even some comics where a Predator has taken on an Engineer from Prometheus! It was very excited to see hype and excited around the Predator franchise again after Prey, but they need to keep up the momentum and avoid another sequel like The Predator. It's a shame we'll definitely never see Batman Vs Predator, which was a fun comic story line, because there's no way Warner Bros would play ball.
@@ycft The franchise is in better hands with Disney as you can see by 20th Century Fox's awful record. I'll never forgive them for cancelling James Cameron/Ridley Scott's collaboration on an Alien sequel by making that cheapo knockoff Alien vs Predator instead. As far as I see it Disney needs visionary directors on board to guide each franchise to new heights otherwise it will kill both outright through boring repetition.
@@guillermo9631 We'll never forgive Fox for cancelling Neill Blomkamp's Aliens sequel! Even though we had a few issues with Alien: Romulus, we'd still like for that director to do a sequel, and its actually made us excited for the TV series Alien: Earth.
I love Predator, it was the first 18-rated film I saw at like 13 and I instantly binged all the Arnie films i could get my hands on. Blew my 13 year old mind
David was the same, he went straight from this to Commando then Total Recall. He first watched it at a family party where he was the only child there, so his dads cousin decided to put Predator on for him because he was bored 😂

I like all the sequels but my fave is Prey, followed closely by Predators. “If it bleeds, then we can kill it.”
The Predator was unfortunate for being sandwiched in between Predators and Prey, which are two very good films.
