I fitted this the other day. It was very easy. Hardest part was getting the old plastic backnut off. With it being plastic, and not very deep, and not being able to view it, just by touch, but got it off after a few minutes. I fitted the valve flow regulator as we do get "water hammer" from time to time. Not noticed it happening since, but it could be it just hasn't;t happened yet. The regulator doesn't seem to affect fill up times too much. Our cistern is 6L. It is very, very quiet when it fills back up. I used a bit of plumbers tape where the flexible Amins water feed nut was screwed onto the bras shank. And I tighten it up slightly with a wrench. It's confusing because this video says tighten a quarter turn with a wrench but the instructions say fingertight - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Not sure guarantee is 1 year as it says in the instructions - I though I read it was 5 years somewhere.
I just fitted one of these and an Ideal Standard version to another loo in the same property. The Ideal Standard version has a cup shaped sealing washer and gave no problem however the Fluidmaster washer is flat and seeps slightly despite tightening the backnut as much as I dare. The cistern with the Fluidmaster fitted is really clean whereas the other required considerably more wiping out of debris and I expected to get a far better seal with it.
I bought one of these. It was sh*t. Leaked water on the overflow no matter what adjustment I made. Took it back to the DIY (W) store and they said they get a lot back. I'm not surprised.

Had an issue with the 400U valve leaking where water was filling too high and leaking down the centre. The water level was about an inch above the water line. I flushed the toilet and found it was still filling slowly with the float held up. I turned the entire valve unit clockwise and this stopped the water flow but now with the float in it's highest position it doesn't fill up to the water line and is about an inch (1-1.5 litres) too low. Any tips? Seems like the float needs to go higher to fill more.
helped me heaps, must have turned the filler valve unknowingly against the cistern wall jamming it while tightening back nut,cistern would not fill or flush properly, after watching video, problem solved
Should I fit the valve flow regulator that fits in the shank? We do have water hammer occasionally and the water pressure is decent (but I don't know if it's high pressure). Not sure where or when we get the water hammer either, possibly when someone turns a tap off upstairs.
Just fitted a Fluidmaster400 to replace a Flomasta and am surprised that the video shows a brass stem. Mine is plastic. The advice is to make all the water feed pipe joints tight before final hand tightening of the stop-valve assembly bottom screw. That is all very fine provided you have plenty of flexible cold feed pipe, but the protruding shaft of the stop-valve should be held in a pair of curved grips to prevent it rotating inside the cistern when you are securing the cold feed joints below. Some cisterns are not as spacious as shown in the video and the stop-valve body can foul on the cistern wall so an odd bit of plastic or even a cork jammed behind the non-moving part is required.
thats how i broke mine. had to remove toilet to redo flooring. put toilet together, when i tightened below. the valve twisted inside and broke it into the wall :P and now im here looking how to install a new one
I've fitted two of these at home and both fail to refill the cistern after you fush. Turn the cold tap on and quickly shut it down again and suddenly the fill. Very annoying!
I've just seen the lack of response to those who are having problems. Not taking the risk of fitting this when the old ballcock system is working perfectly. Sending back for a refund!
Hi I've got a fill valve (Fluidmaster) to install on my own cistern. In the instructions that came with the Fluidmaster PRO45B it says to hand tighten the backnut and the nut on the water connection pipe. It says do not over tighten either of the nuts. Your video shows you using a wrench to tighten both. Which is correct?

How about explaining why these valves fail in the first place. You build them to fail so people buy more, money grabbing *****. For anyone interested, pop the cap off the valve and hammer some nails into the openings on top - it stops the noise. Don't waste your money on these beggars
Just fitted one of these to my Shires cistern and all went well until I put the cistern lid back on only to find that the height of the new valve is above that of the cistern so the lid doesn't sit completely down. I tried lowerning the valve but then the cistern doesn't fill up to the fill line! Not impressed. Just bought a new ball valve instead.
Unfortunately, the video did not mention that you should measure the height of the cistern to ensure you by a correct fitting bottom entry valve! There are some adjustable height versions on the market
We installed this today and the water will not fill up the the 6 ltr mark but stops some way below. We have turned the screw on the arm to the + to its fullest.
Hi I'm a incompetent plumber who's qualified to do librarian. I tried to install one of these in a new Lecico Neon toilet and as I turned the spinny thing, the fluidmaster jumped out of the tank and took a shit on my clients cat. :) Now I've lost my home and my husband. :)

Mine goes from a plastic pipe on the fill valve onto a metal pipe that supplys the water but as soon as I turn it on it leaks.
At 2:54 why not just pour in some water to see if there's no leak before re=-attaching the water supply?

Lower the float so the water level stays below the syphon outlet.
