I'm a 47 year old woman, and I just changed my toilet's valve. I was wondering if I could do it, just to help out my husband, who today, took my place taking our son training (I was feeling under the weather) , so, I decided to do this for him, as a thank you token, I searched for a video to see how it was done, and here you were, being quick, and to the point, in less than 10 minutes, so Thank you! I did this successfully. I Feel accomplished. Lol. Greetings from México.
You are such a gem of a woman. I sincerely hope I meet someone like you, and I hope you know how lucky you make your husband! Thanks for sharing this comment and I wish you and your family all the best.
Thanks for your help! I am a single mom. My brother is in Florida for vacation. I didn't want to pay a repair man. So I followed this video. I was so happy to do this repair on my own. I flushed the toilet about 8 times when I was done 😂
Thanks for the video. I'm pretty bad at home repairs but was able to replace my toilet bowl valve in about 30 minutes. Some additional points that may help others (1) there is a washer that goes at the bottom of the valve stem and secures the valve stem with the bottom of the toilet tank. For the part that I had, the washer was in a separate plastic bag. Good thing I noticed this before tighten the various nuts. (2) the float height needs to be adjusted to the proper height or the toilet won't flush. One hint is to compare the new valve mechanism with the old and adjust the new mechanism to about the same height as the old one. (3) As an alternative to the "catch the water in a bucket approach", you can use a large sponge to remove water from the tank before you start (takes a bit longer but less of a mess on the floor). (4) Have a scissor ready to cut the plastic tube from the valve to the toilet fill thing since what comes with the replacement is usually longer than you need (5) Have some teflon tape ready in case you have a leak when re-attaching the nut at the bottom of the tank.
Just finished my second toilet repair. I was able to follow this easily. Even got through it with a broken foot and a twisted wrist. He is a superb instructor.
Quite good, but a couple of thoughts. Looks to me like your white supply line is kinked, which will be a problem. Second, all manufacturers recommend "hand tight" only. May be some folks that need help with achieving that (arthritis, age) but no more than a quarter turn. I check for leaks then when done. I take a few sheets of toilet paper, or kleenex tissue, and wrap it around the connection to see if there is a slow leak. If so I will tighten, maybe 1/8 of a turn and repeat until there is no more leak. Done this on all my plumbing repairs over last 30+ years and it saves a lot of $ and trouble. Thanks for this, much more comprehensive than the manufacturer's instructions.
Thank you for this excellent video. I had done this once or twice in the past many years ago, but I am much older now, have a bad back and my left shoulder is gone. Toilet is in a very tight space. I questioned my ability to do this at this point. However, a middle-of-the night running toilet gave me no choice but to try. I had the replacement valve and after watching your video several times, convinced myself that I COULD do this myself. Thank you so, so much. I'm going now to check out your other videos!
Excellent! This allowed me, a single 45 yo mom to fix it myself and save calling the Home Warranty. Paying $16 for the kit vs. $100 for someone to come out and do the very same thing, I'm on top of the world right now!
Pro Tip - These Fluidmasters are great but they still tend to wear out after a few years and you gotta replace them. If you're replacing the valve with the same kind of value, you don't have to bother taking the entire old one out and detaching the supply line. Just slide the clear plastic lock collar on the post up and then slide the entire top assembly up off the bottom post. Slide the new one on to your desired height, and push the lock collar back down. Then cut your fill hose to length and attach it to the flush tube. This would also be a good time to go ahead and replace the flapper with a Korky Plus to save future headaches. Done!
Thank you! I googled replacing fluidmaster valve without detaching supply line and a video showed up showing exactly how to do it without any tools. Without your comment I would not have even thought of that being an option.
This guy is so amazing!! He explained it so well that I was able to fix my toilet by myself with a broken foot. He is so smart I bet he could explain other things, too. You know, like tax for instance.
Thank you sir! Excellent instructional video in every way. The video shots showing all the operations of the parts were exceptionally helpful. Much appreciated.
Calm, easy to understand, thorough. The background music was nice and soothing. Hubby wanted to call a plumber but with the help of this video I made the repair! 💪
Very easy to follow. And I thought the faint but calming music was a nice touch because often this type of job is a semi-emergency and is being done by complete novices such as myself. It’s very...settling. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It helped me to fix a constant filling or running noise coming from the toilet tank that did not stop. I only replaced the top part with the float not the whole Fill valve kit.
My son and I followed your video and he knoched it out in less than 20 minutes. I have the footage. Eeeeeee. 🤗🤗🤗 The most difficult thing was reconnecting the supply line so that it was even and wouldn't leak but on his 3rd try, he nailed it. This is a great thing for young people, girls and guys, to do, teaching them to be independent and giving them confidence to do other things around the house. Thanks, COVID-19. Despite all the chaos you've caused around the world, the silver lining is that families are working on projects as a team. And thank you for the video. Be safe, everyone.
I found this video and saved it for when I would need it. I finally needed it! Thank you for doing this video. You explained everything so perfectly and I successfully fixed my own toilet!
Thank You so much. A very clear and informative video. And you speak distinctly which i appreciated very much. And i saved $$$ doing my own plumbing again. YAY! Namaste
Thanks so much for this video, I have exactly the same valve and was able to adjust the float height exactly as you showed. You can’t imagine the grief I’ve had the last few weeks with the other half having to use the cold downstairs toilet !
Thanks. I am replacing my valve tomorrow. Looks like a 1 out of 10 on a difficulty level and I am grateful for that. It would have been a $150 plumber bill and it is an easy DIY!. No more big black floating ball on a metal rod either. Thank you!.
thank you so much for share your knowledge.i'm a single mom watching your video and I learn how to replace my toilet valve with out cost me lots of moneys thank again.God bless.
Thank you for your great video. Very thorough and detailed. My sister ( 3 states away) watched this video. She was able to do the job herself. Her slumlord wasn't going to do anything about the toilet valve. So, thanks again.
Ok, just replaced my toilet valve with this video for the first time in my life. Having the bucket ready saved my life as my water would not completely off. The one area that I missed was that there is a washer that comes with the new valve. I initially put the new valve in without the washer and it was leaking rapidly. Then looked for the washer in the packaging and reinstalled the valve with washer and worked like a charm. Only took 15-20 min. but was intense, heavy sweating/breathing and almost passed out but happy it's done now. Thank you for this video
So, after my landlord "fixed" my toilet for the 3rd time, I found you, and did it right the first time. Only problem I had was I wished that I watched your video before I left Lowe's. I ended up going back for the Teflon tape. That did the trick. Thank you so much!!!!!
It wasn't as easy as you made it appear, yet mainly because my shut off valve didn't truly STOP the valve from dripping all over my floor! I had to squeeze a right-sized pitcher (not bucket) under it. All in all, it took me about 2 hours from home to home-depot to putting the lid back on top. THANKS for your help. I know I just saved some money-- on a plumber and my water bill.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much. I'm disabled and live alone in the suburbs of Atlanta. I'm trying to fix my toilet with basically one good arm (post stroke) and I'm hoping I can do this because I have no money for a plumber, that's for sure. I've got the kit, so here's hoping.
Thank you for sharing this video, I changed my toilet valve yesterday …. Works perfectly …doesn’t keep running and doesn’t leak anymore…..total cost A$20…. and the man at the hardware store said I don’t have to tell you to be gentle when tightening the plastic locknut because you are a woman, he said he has to tell the men…. 🤣🤣
thanks, that is very useful. saved us some money, because we didn't have to call a plumber. The most difficult part was removing the nut (4:08), it was very tight and hard to remove.
I am a tiny woman. To fix toilet is a horrible thing for me. Before watching your detailed instruction, I had no ideal for fixing the fill valve, even I watched the video instruction at Home Depot website. I should be able to replace the fill valve now. Thanks gentleman.
Thanks for adding this video to the few others I watched so I could fix my mom's toilet. I had just replaced the seal but after a few days, it was running again, so I changed out the whole thing. Not so hard after praying and watching your video.

The kinked white supply line was a good catch on your part, Bruce. It bugged me that he didn't change it. Good job.
Thank you for the very clear and encouraging video. Thanks to you, I was able to replace my toilet's fill valve. Thanks, again!
Thank you for the great instruction. I fixed both toilets that have been leaking for months now. No more leaks.
