I have had the original Starlink since it was available as we don't have anything else available. Couldn't be happier, takes care of our entire household without issue. Will lose signal with heavy weather much like satellite TV but it comes back just as quick.

    3 things:
1- I’ve had star link for 3 months in rural western Oregon, and love it
2- owned two 6’ power rakes for our two T190 bobcat skid-steers in my landscape operation, it was my special sauce for speedy final grades and seeding prep. AMAZING! In 2009 I downsized and sold all the install equipment and went back to maintenance only… no regrets! But I miss the power rake the most.
3- spraying will always be the most effective way to eradicate weeds in a multiple interval treatment for a couple months to kill off the kids… no… not your family, but the weed seeds lurking in the soil, waiting to pop up like prairie dogs when you think you’ve fixed everything.

As a kid in the 50s we had a farm in northern 15:07 KY that was covered under in locust trees. As we cleaned up the farm the trees became fence posts. Part of my time spent in peeling the bark so the posts would last longer once placed in the ground. Around 1960 the price per posts we sold was fifty cents for the small posts and $1 for larger posts suitable for gate or corner posts.

Good morning OWTM community … I’ve never used a Starlink mini or a Power Rake … I do have a whole house generator and an APC battery back up on my internet service which holds the power until the generator kicks on and the auto transfer switches from provider power to generated power … Here’s to another exceptional day full of opportunities and happiness 😎

Good morning, Mike and Family. I grew up on a farm in UpState, NY (Upper Lisle). We had a grove of Hickorys, CC planted Pines and Black Locust. My grandfather called them the 100-year posts, and you had better put your staples into them while they were green because when they seasoned, they were hard as a rock, and I couldn't get a staple in them to save my life. I never had to replace those posts. In fact, the Whitney Point Fairgrounds manager bought 200 from us at a dollar post seven feet long, and that was back in 1959 if my memory serves me. So I'd expect to pay five or more - maybe even ten with inflation. As a side note, seven more would grow back for every post cut, always replacing our fence post stock. Have a blessed day, Mike and family. I always watch your videos.

I have the Gen3 Starlink and use while we live in our RV during the summer months. Some things that I have learned over our first year with it using it extensively for remote work with many hours of video calls.
Make sure you have a good view of the sky, at our summer campsite there is one tree and the canopy created by that did cause some disruption but nothing a taller pole can’t fix next year. Maybe that means a small clearing at the cabin is needed 😮
The more rural the location the better, less people connecting to your local satellites the better performance you will have.
It is one of the easiest systems to setup. I’ve only used it this summer but I also like the idea that I own it and can deploy it anywhere I need in the future and even in the event of bad weather at our home in central PA.

When you build your new storage shed, consider adding a second level in one of the storage bays. You could double the storage capacity with lighter items on the second level shelf.

I love my starlink! Allows me to live out in a rural forest, and still keep my day job. For your place in WV, make sure you have a spot with a clear wide view of the sky. That is the one challenge using starlink in a forest, trees will block its signal and make it hard to connect.

I am using the regular Starlink and the Mini, The Mini is great for Travel, Emergency, Camping etc, but the performance is not so good as with the big antennas, especially for uploads (i.e. UA-cam). Thats logical, because the usable surface is smaller. Overall it is an exellent product. I have a hardcase (Pelicase) where i put everything together. I also have a direct 12V (USB-C to Starlink) adaptor. This is great, because you have no 110V to12V conversion which gibes you a better lifetime of the battery pack! The power consumption is between 30 up to 65W. It consumes more energy if you blast the data through it. In winter it has a heated surface which requires also some extra power if you have snow falling. Try also the pole mount, because if you want to use it stationary for some hours or days it gives you a better data rate.

I wouldn't give up on the Vermeer yet as long as there's no major issues and the issues you have are not reoccurring. I just spent several thousand dollars on a very nice E-bike and the cover on the lock that holds the battery secure fell off. Not a big deal as I love the bike but it shouldn't have happened. Perfection in life is virtually impossible to achieve, too many variables and forces working against it. Thanks for all you and your family does, I enjoy the variety and your honesty in everything you do. Fall harvest is in full swing here in Michigan with a needed rain delay break for the next couple days.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Ct. We had a couple locust posts by the river from the old pasture. There was a dirt bike trail that went by 1 of those posts. I'm 58 yrs old. That post was there before my time as cows hadn't been down there since before I was born. Last year I went home to visit and happened to find that post is still there.

I don't have the mini but I really like the standard starlink. I have it at my farm in east tx. no issues. get about 80-100 Mbps down..30-40 up. very reliable. trees may be an issue for you so check for satellite visibility using the app before you order it ideally. I have tons of tall pine trees but I have a decent clearing and installed high on my roof which gave me clear path to the satellites. might have to put it on your roof which may or may not make the mini less desirable as opposed to the standard installation. depends on where the trees are and visibility to the satellites.

I have the regular Starlink and used it with our camper. Earlier this year I bought the mini for more portable use. I reallly like both. The mini works great and I run it on a battery pack. I purchased originally for backup internet in case ours in the country goes out. I have found many uses for it. The mini now goes with me when we travel. I have used it in some wooded campground areas but you have to find a spot with some clear sky.

On the mini, a friend has one, and reports speeds similar to mine, and also the mini can run on AC or DC, with DC drawing much less from your Jackery. Do it, well worth it!

Mike, the issues with your mini-skid seem very minor... the display is just defective. The buttons on those type of displays are notorious for sticking... which is why it cycles the menu. They will replace it and all will be good. I am with you on the squeak, it probably is an idler. Seems like a good machine and will most likely be a waste of money to switch to something else that may have similar issues. We enjoy watching the videos! Take care!

We now have 3 systems…one for our home, a second for our rental home, and a third with the roam plan for our RV. The fixed location plans are $120/mo and the roam is $150/mo. With the roam plan you can pause and restart service at will.

We live in rural PA about 3 hours from you. We had Brightspeed. Speeds no greater than 5-10 meg. Sad. We decided to switch to Starlink. Initial investment was $600 for the equipment. Ours is $120 per month unlimited. With that, one thing for certain, you can’t get your time back. So sitting there waiting for Brightspeed to load, took time. Starlink is super fast considering. So it was a no brainer for us and yes, well worth the investment. I vote YES, go for it!

Locust was the preferred fence post material at my grandfather's farm in SW PA. No sawn posts, we just used the limbs, which were crooked as a dog's hind leg. So running a straight fence line was a challenge. The main reason for the locust was its resistance to rot. Sometimes he would treat the ends by soaking in a barrel of used motor oil (if I recall correctly). I don't know if his treatment helped or not. Fencing was a nonstop job. There was always fence that needed work.

Starlink upgraded us on their own a couple of years ago, then had a cable go bad, they warranted it and no issues.Very seldom lose service in weather, but does hesitate sometimes switching satellites-but just for seconds. I think you will love the service.

Need a clear view of north sky. I’m only getting 144 mbps down and 17 mbps upload. You’ll need the upload for videos I think to be better. Also what happened to the swimming pool ? I grew up on an army base, my dad wasn't IN the army, he was a Firefighter on the base for 37yrs.
    In the 70's, 80's into the 90's.......
NO STORES put out Christmas crap until AFTER Remembrance Day, (November 11th) out of respect for our fallen soldiers.
Now, it's starting in late August and September, by October, it looks like Christmas "threw up" in every store!
I believe it to be a HUGE INDIGNITY to our Soldiers!!!
ALL meaning is lost on the day, our WWII veterans are few and far between now. One very old veteran told me he refuses to shop at stores who put out Christmas crap before November 11th, for anything to do with Christmas!
As a Country, we are loosing our good values and they are being replaced by materalistic wants over needs and it makes me sick!
But, after 9yrs of Trudeau, "Pride celebration was a week, then a month, now its a Season"!
Canadians standing up against a tyrannical government with the largest and peaceful protest. The "trucker convoy", as it is called. They were stripped of all rights, money frozen in banks, then beat into submission by many SRT teams.
Yet, everyday, Palestine protestors occupy and shut down areas of MY country..... and the politicians DO NOTHING!!!
MY COUNTRY IS FREE AND STRONG!!
THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO PLACE IN MY COUNTRY!

Mike, in regards to the broadleaf weeds. You have perennials which come back from the roots and annuals which come back from seed. Proper timing is the key to successful control. I would wait until the plants have come up and spray them with a broadleaf herbicide. You have warm season weeds and cool season weeds. Know the life cycle of the plants you are dealing with.

Greetings from one owner (ctx100 ) to another owner (ctx160)
I think there is a very easy solution to your problems.
The squeaking noise is probably caused by one or more little stones caught between the drive and the chassis.
You got a lot of gravel all around your property.
Even if fixed it will happen over and over again
The problem with your display is probably caused by humidity which has condensed in the vented housing.
Easy to fix: just one plug and two screws.
Put it inside and let it dry overnight
    Its worth trying

Opinion on power raking and seeding from scratch:
No experience with power raking but I think seeding from scratch makes sense if the area is mostly non-desirable grass and weeds. There will be weed seeds in the soil however, so there is that to deal with. If no rush, you could power rake, then hit with Round up or equivalent. Wait a couple of months, seed, and go with a weed killer that is safe to put on a newly seeded plot. Tenacity is one that I know of, there are probably others.

You need to try to use Penn Mulch Seed Accelerator instead of the straw. Can be applied using a broadcaster spreader, comes in 40 lb bags and best part is you don't have to pick it up after the grass grows. It is an alternative to hydroseeding, it basically is paper pellets that swell and hold the water, perfect for patches like you just did. I think it is a game changer.

We have Starlink in rural SW Ontario, Canada and love it. The rural internet around here sucks to say the least. They promise speeds "up to" whatever they claim but you never see them. Starlink is the real deal. It's expensive but all rural internet is and most of them don't work as claimed. Starlink does. We got it when it first came out and paid full price for it. It's burns my butt a little that it's so much cheaper now but what can you do. I don't know anything about the mini but it sounds like it's just a smaller version of the big one. Oh yeah...set up is a breeze. It basically sets itself up. Another nice thing is it works in all but the most severe weather conditions. We have satellite TV and it goes out even in mild thunderstorms. Dave

That big clearing that you are grass seeding. I could see large building number two going up there. Your daughter and husband want to move home. You also have Levi there. Sawmilling 2x6's and sandwiching three together with alternating seams would make great posts to build something more in keeping with your large building next to the house. You mentioned that your only regret is not pouring footers. You could pour round posts with the tops slightly above grade.
The advantage of syncing the posts in the ground like they did on your large building is that is creates wind sheer strength. With the round posts all you have to so is take one quarter, or a third of each wall and superimpose cross bracing on it. That way it won't rack or shear.
With sistering/gluing together 2x6 posts the sky is the limit. I'd like to see one part of that building, like up on one end have two floors so your daughter and husband have a place to stay, or create a second floor apartment. The other part of the building would be great for storage, or for your kiln etc. Running electricity to it couldn't you just branch off from the connection you already have? I'm not an electrician so I am shooting from the hip on this one.
After you put the 2x6 post framing up, you know, just use 1x3's, or 2x4's for joining them together and create a platform for siding. You could even mill wood siding, and then after it fully cures, or kiln dry it put batten strips in between. I'm just thinking out loud. Love this channel.

My parents and brother both use Starlink. It has been great for them both as they didn't have other high-speed options. They have had great reliability, generally speaking, but sometimes the weather is spotty. I think it would fit your needs and wants.

That power rake does a great job! I wouldn't be too eager to take a hit on the now depreciated Vermeer for a Ditchwitch that you might not even like as well. Maybe rent it for a couple of months and see if you even like it?

Up here in North Idaho on my piece of paradise, Starlink is the only thing I can get. We LOVE it! We only do the $120 plan and haven’t had much issue. We lose connection occasionally, but not enough to be upset. Like any satellite system, you have to have a clear shot so heavy forest could be an issue at your cabin.

Starlink is very good with a couple of exceptions. You need a large clearing and no heavy storms at the usage time. We have wooded property in West Virginia and use starlink for internet and phone. When we had it in our clearing that was about 50 ft by 70 ft it would constantly drop the service. Now that we have it in our bigger clearing about 300 ft x 200 ft it works great. You would need a large area or a serious tower to get a good service signal.

Starlink user in northeast. It self defrosts, mine is gen 2 and will adjust and pivot on its own, but will take you a solid day before it will self analyze the sky where you place it.
For your spread it might be best to buy one with cat port on back so you can extend the network.
We have a legit stone built home from 1950s and super strong but challenges with any WiFi given the 4 foot wide fireplace and nooks of the home.
With mesh network plugged in we can reach the back of the property at 2 acres and the pool.
Google mesh is probably your best bet with a Starlink if not a super tech or want to mess with subnet masks.
Ps - The Kioti tractors maintain most power out to Pto :) That or a new telehandler instead of a skid - my least fav machine is a skid - might just be me, but they will never be as smooth or versatile for our homestead.

We’ve had Starlink for nearly 3 years at our property. It’s been phenomenal. I have also looked into the mini and have decided against it. The plans are expensive. I would go with the full-sized Starlink - it is by no means, big. It’s very manageable, travels well, and has a much better data plan. Unless you’re planning to go camping with it, the mini is not the right tool for the job.

I’ve had the starlink roam for a year and a half. We use it camping every weekend and at home during the week, and it’s been great. The mini isn’t available in Canada yet, but when it is I’ll probably be looking into it too.

Man love that power rake. I would think a money maker for a small business venture for somebody. You could cleanup and smooth a nice size lawn and over seed in a day. With the narrow Vermeer it would easily get into the back yards through a wide passage gait. This generation of people dont like to work like the GenZ and Boomers, they are mostly an instant gratification generation and would gladly pay for this operation to have a instant nice lawn in a coupple weeks and the dont have to blister those soft little hands. BTW, if you own a landscape rake you automatically are in the Tim the Toolman Club with full growling credentials. Thanks for another great vid. Steve

IMO...the mini skid seems like a great tool for moving material...skidding logs, moving buckets of dirt/stone, IBC totes, etc. But I'd take pause using it for anything that generates dust...mowing, raking, etc. There's a reason they call dust the "silent killer".

Mike the answer your looking for you already answered……..the squeak is pretty normal on tracked vehicles……the small units it is rare…… but the information monitor needs replacing!…….it may have got moisture inside……sounds crazy but these instrument gauges get this sometimes and I recommend a cover for when not in use……let the dealer look at it and replace what is needed……you may just need the gauge replaced and maybe one or two idler wheels replaced

I have had Starlink for about 3 years. Game changer for where I live. No other “high speed” available. Just make sure you have a 100% clear view of the sky. In my case it’s north. I live along a river and my property slopes down. I have 3 story house. I added an eight foot pole, on the top eave, to mount the dish. That was the only way I could have an unobstructed view north. With the mini, you won’t have that luxury.

I live in utah and have the home starlink. We dont have it permanently mounted to our home because we take it camping and to our offgrid cabin in Colorado. At my cabin i can see what my wattage use is. My starlink uses about 17watts. Works perfectly. We love it.

The starlink RV package is nice since you can take it and use it anywhere, but you do need a clear view of the sky for it to work well. The moisture in the leaves causes interference.

I had Starlink when it first came out and was happy with it. The reason i dropped it was the service changed [download speed decreased] and the price went up. It turned out not to be the best bang for the buck. I can't say how well the mini would work.

I could have sure used that power rake fixing my front yard after having some septic tank work done. It took 4 of us 1/2 day of some pretty hard work with a rototiller and hand rakes. Looks like you would have done a much better job in about 10 min. …..My only concern with doing a whole weedy yard without some kind of treatment is if the weeds would just grow back.

Hey there Mike, I’m not sure about the stare link mini but we live on Whidbey Island Wa. The local internet was so so at best, and we have Dish network for our tv and they say that there satellite Internet service is watching at blotchy at best so when I heard about the Starlink, I checked into it and talked to a couple people that have it in my area and I ordered it and have been happy with it since my sister travels with it in her motorhome and she loves it. Have a great day, and if the Verma makes too much curries this quick, you might want to think about a different unit.

Give the mini skid a second chance. The screen is an easy fix. Pop it out and pop the new one in. The squeak may be more problematic. Sounds like a bearing which can be replaced also. Maybe with one you can manually lube.

Good morning , on the subject of Starlink, I have version 2 dish we love it as opposed to what WiFi we had. Previously we could only get less than 10 mbs download and and less than one mbs upload, now we get 100mbs download, around 15 to 20mbs upload.
We’ve had for just a year(took 2 yrs to get it) , the only negative we see is during a storm sometimes it loses contact with the satellites, but usually is down for a very short period of time.
We live in rural eastern Kentucky.
