I remember in 2016 when I grew my first crop of wheat on about 1/4 of an acre in Michigan. It was a great success. When my in-laws came to visit that Summer from Spain I had the profound pleasure of watching my husband and his father harvest the wheat with scythes. I then tied them up in bundles called stooks or shocks. It was probably the most beautiful thing I ever witnessed or was a part of. The labor was intensive and hours long but looking at that field with standing wheat stirred ancient feelings inside of me. My in-laws had not lost the old ways of living. They even helped me braid my garlic and hang to dry in the greenhouse. We Americans and Canadians have lost so much of our natural ways of living. Keep making these videos because they can change the world.
Hi Shawn ; Started AG1. With my wife. We are in our early 70’s. We grow our own food and supply our own heat. We have been avid vitamin takers for many years. Looking forward to how we feel after taking it for sometime.
that is some beautiful millet! my indoor birdies would love that and instead of buying the sprigs as a treat I should definitely be growing it for them... ❤ Happy Thanksgiving!
As a qualifier I own a bird sanctuary both domestic/local and migratory. I'll give you a atta boy for your effort but millet both white and red are at the bottom of the birds want list. I'm a known entity on the world stage ie. the bird forum where I share and give advice on birding issues and if you use a commercial mix seed they always use millet as a filler. As a consequence a good many of these seeds wind up on the ground and eventually self seed. To which I've never seen a bird take a seed from either a white or red millet plant. In order if your wish is to attract birds the most popular seeds are Safflower, Black Oil Sunflower then Grey stripe Sunflower in that order. If you have the resources put out Peanuts in the shell and as of now they going if you can find them at $2.00 a Pound to $3.00 pounds.
Another great video thanks for sharing your garden and seed preparation. I have 5 new chicks in our hen house they are fun to see them rooting through the ground area looking for bugs and eating seeds. We have been using chicken scratch for over 4 years now and we use about 400 pounds of feed over the winter season for 24 chickens, plus we get lots of eggs that we donate to (My Daily Bread),it helps feed those in need. I thought I would share this with you. It's part of giving back
Great knowledge to learn! I’m in my 7th decade & grow a few grains because they’re beautiful to see! I was raised on a prairie wheat farm but not so many wheat fields these days. Thanks🤗🇨🇦🌻
There are these nice hand cranking mills that exist that turns that stuff into flour. I've never used one myself. I think they clamp down onto the side of a table like a vice then you crank it. They got to be sold online somewhere. Anyways, that's neat to see those grain plants. First time seeing them that close and on video. I don't know what you do with millet, amaranth and sorghum.
I’ll be planting about 1200 square feet of einkorn within the next few weeks as an experiment for harvest next summer. I want to try growing my own cereals here to cut down my reliance on external production. If it works, I’ll make it an annual part of my food supply. Thanks for sharing your family’s experiences in similar exploits.
With everything that needs to be apparently done to sustainably survive, it sure appears that 1 single individual cannot do everything all by themselves. There are just not enough hours in a day to do all those things that would need to be done. Hence also why we all need to work together as a community. Tolerate one another and be kind to one another.
I wouldn’t worry about removing too much about removing the debris from the seed, chooks are really experienced at finding the bits they want to eat and the remainder becomes compost. 🇦🇺
I’ve watched you over the years. And have seen your diet improve. Personally I don’t think one needs to supplement our diet if we eat foods that have the essential nutrients in them. Hugs for Cali ❤.
I wonder if you've noticed anything odd about your sunflowers ?? Have they had trouble growing ?? Do they face the Sun or do they face away from the Sun ?? Thanks for your generous consideration, Sincerely ................... God bless P.S. love the channel's !!
Since you are such a researcher, are you aware of the background of the founder of AG1? He appears to have left his home land due to legal issues. Also, all studies comparing AG1 to other supplements found no difference other than AG1 is by far the most expensive. This from guy looking to be rich.
Ni får nog köpa in en riktig maskin för detta annars kommer du få göra detta hela vintern med din körd. är det höns foder så behöver du inte göra detta för det gör dom bäst själva
Shawn: "I learned an important new skill this year" Me: "Does this new skill have anything to do with selling AG1?" Shawn: "Haha, listen, have you heard the good news about AG1?"
So you learned how to separate the wheat from the chaff? You know, EVERYONE used to know how to do that a few thousand years ago. Can't stop progress... but I'm not sure that's what I'd call it. I hope you will grind it up and make some bread.... and share that with us when you do. Thanks for showing us so much stuff we've all forgotten.

Love to see how your chickens have acclimated to their still-new home. A little introduction to your flock would be of interest.
Wow your gardens still look amazing for early autumn! I always learn something from your videos. This is awesome.

As the old saying goes Shawn "Everyday is a new learning cycle and we're never too old to learn new skills."
In this lesson: AG1 💸💸💸💸💸💸
Scots lived well on oats and potatoes for centuries.
Love my AG1

Good. Harvest.
If the seeds are for your chickens, you don't need to clean the seeds, in fact it better for chicken if the seeds is not cleaned,
Birds eat millet local pet store sells it.
I just learned about millet being the best food,i can only find 1 cereal with it in the states.
Which cereal?
Just buy it in bulk and cook it , it's very simple to do . ❤
@@bonniemullen4990 until there is a run on food.we garden and store some stuff.have to read up on storing grain, don't want it to go bad.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Shawn, and to all the Canadians out there 😁🦃

Do you have to dry the seeds first before storage? Are they at risk for molding?
Very good 👍
Thanks for the video - everything looks great. Just wondering if you harvest your buckwheat (seeds)?
Regards from far north California, Shawn.
I've been unsuccessful at growing millet. Bought it in the store for my parakeets and finches. Didn't know humans could eat it.
Thanks Shawn, machinery next year at your sister's?
Thank you for sharing your new skill, it is something that I would like to learn, and it is nice to see your sweetheart helping you out.
nice video Shawn
Your channel is the first channel that I subscribed to and you inspired me to go out and build my own. Thank you
It's always fun to see what adventures you have going.
Nice Job
What does AG1 taste like? Is it gritty? Is there an after taste?
Hey Shawn have you grown Amarath a super powerful seed and leaf.
Yep, ore amaranth than any of the other grains
Been wanting to grow some elderberry
When the berries turn, the birds eat them, get drunk and fly in to your window glass. 😢
@@jilbertbmany decades ago, in my 30s and 40s in UK, I made elderberry and elderflower wine.
Also morello cherry.
@jilbertb where I live they fly into my window glass, and I don't know of any berries around here. Must of been just thinking there was no window, huh?
I grew a lot of different grains this year and maybe 5% went to seed. Very disappointing.
How does amaranth compare to quinoa?
I am working on a chimney flue for my fireplace. What type of flue do you recommend? I built the fireplace... Not of tin!
🏡🐾
You should grow popcorn.
He no longer eats corn, I believe.
Shawn, How did you get rid of your high blood pressure?
Low carb, high protein, high vitamins and minerals, low toxins
Sure wish I had your eating plan that lowered your Blood Preasue for my son that meds aren’t working for him😢
Where are your orange pumpkins😮
One of the most beautiful scenes ever. Wonderful Cali and her dad in the garden. Such a haven for life, of all shades and descriptions.
Are you on carnivore only? I watch all your videos..however..I couldn't figure out if you ate only meat.
looks like a lot of golden colas 🙃

Смотрю с удовольствием. Жаль что не понимаю о чём речь.

Did I just see a marijuana plant back there?!?!?
No but it is legal to grow here if I chose to
@@ShawnJames1 I live in Michigan it legal here too. Just wishful thinking I guess..
Minnesota too, but we have to grow indoors in a locked room.
